I’d like to think I’m right about a lot of things but the weather isn’t one of them. In my last blog entry I confidently stated that I thought the dry season was here because some strong winds had blown away the rain and it was sunny for a few days. Well, was I wrong about that. Before my dirt road could even dry the clouds rolled back in along with mist and light rain—and it’s been that way for several days now. I know the dry season will come, I’m just not sure when! Perhaps early December? Maybe around Christmas time? It’s all a game with Mother Nature! She knows I want it to be warm sunny here, and NOW, particularly so I can chide my friends in the northeastern U.S., but she knows I ... read more

Summer is in the air in Central America Spring is in full swing here meaning its raining less and summer is just around the corner. After a full onslaught of guests in recent weeks, things have quieted down a little in the last two weeks and that has enabled us to do some spring cleaning and to spruce up the B&B. It didn’t need much work, but change isn’t bad in this case. Terry, our new manager, has painted many of the rooms in uniquely tropical colors and reorganized the living area. His re-do definitely opened up the living space a bit and it is now more conducive to meeting other guests, having conversations, reading, or just relaxing. Since the last time we did some work on the rooms and common areas it was during the ... read more

Yup! 1 week to go before flying out! Headed back so I took a trip to the Pacific last week. Spent Haloween and the week after in the Mal Pais area, more up toward Manzanillo....CasaKata...."PARADISE"! Pics will tell all, I hope. OK, so romance in CR is what you make of it. How many time in your life do you meet someone and have a connection? There ya go! Out of 148 pics I stopped with these, will keep adding later. Its Thursday, and I have to leave on Tuesday next, 14th. Promised I'd have T-Day with the family. Got to go back and unload all I´ve learned, put on paper, analyze, calculate, hell you all know what has to be done when considering the possibility of starting over in CR. until next time. ... read more

You had to have been there!

It’s that time of year again. In a few weeks, the rainy season should be just a memory and the next six or seven months will be filled with bright sunshine and few clouds. The bumpy dirt road leading to the B&B will become nearly dusty, the green fields surrounding us will eventually turn from a vivid, deep green to something approaching a yellowish brown, and the days will get a bit warmer. As my friends and family in the northeastern U.S. begin to settle in for winter, here we’re getting ready summer. While it wasn’t a particularly bad rainy season, likely due to the lack of hurricanes, thankfully, in the Gulf of Mexico, waking from the rainy season isn’t unlike the arrival of spring in the U.S. It’s as if everything gets a fresh coat ... read more

What a busy time over the past three weeks! I’ve had scarely any time to update my blog let alone take of care of many personal items that I keep putting off. As I mentioned in my last blog, we’ve been having a lot of fun here this month. Terrific guests, a lot of laughs, and great food are a terrific combination for making the month enjoyable, even during this rainy season. Humming along….. The B&B has been humming with activity and it seems lately at least, that when we’ve just finished one meal, it’s time to prepare for the next one. Bob, our 17-night guest (along with his wife Deb), has been our “chef in residence” this month cooking everything from corvina with a mildly spicey sauce to burgers you’d find in any backyard barbeque ... read more

Forget da Map! After the weather cleared out, it was time to warm up. Woke up to clearer skies and distant thunderstorms on the Pacific. Perfect temps, sun peeking out from behind the clouds, burning off the fog and drying the mud. Time to take a drive! Up the road to LosAngeles Norte and the back way into San Ramon. Hmmm? Which way? Right(dereche)! Amazed by the valleys and ridges and trees and houses....gotta watch the road too!!! Wanted to get to the top of the far ridge, but no road, or 'Ya can't get dar from here!", so I kept going....and going...and going....til the road ended at a river! Nope, too deep for the Geo! There is a beautiful finca down there, in the middle of nowhere. Seems a previous President donated property for a ... read more

The Ridge, where I couldn't go.

Here it is, less than a month left for me to see CR. Yet, I have 'lived' in San Ramon now for a month! As said by those in the know, 'Live there to get the experience'! After rain, fog, clouds, COLD, chill-to-the-bone wet cold, and great mornings, I think I've got San Ramon's "Green Season" understood....then again, I've have been at 3800+feet above sea level, and NOT in the city itself. Found out that the tops of the mountains, where we are, all have a variation to how the weather is. One ridge will have all the fog or clouds, where another will have the winds, while still another will have any and all weather. But, the weather moves in and out so rapidly you just gotta sit it out. I know I will have ... read more

Hola from Angel Valley, Well I’ve been here for a few months now and it’s been good - the painting is winding down or I am - not sure which. We’ve had guests off an on…Last night was a full house, 9 guests total, 5 women celebrating a 50th birthday and 2 couples. The ladies were up till 10:15 and I was like - man this is late. I’ve only been up past 11 twice since I’ve been here and that was a stretch. So this morning I cooked breakfast for 11 people and was up at 5:15 prepping for a 7 a.m. meal. I ran over by 8 minutes but it was all good. I cut up a mean fresh fruit if I do say so myself. The dogs are fine - they still have ... read more

Food, food and more food…. I must admit I do love it when I have guests of the B&B who love food, and love to cook! I do fairly well preparing breakfast, but dinner is still beyond my modest talents. This month is definitely a fun one at the B&B! We have some terrific long-term guests including Deb & Bob who are considering moving here, Renee (from my former home of Washington, DC), an architect who is here for a month working on on a land development project, and Jake, who is also considering moving here. They’re all very fun and enjoy good food. Bob in particular loves to cook as he finds it relaxing and has offered to cook for the group as often as we’d like. Can life get any better!? I think my ... read more
