This blog entry includes some recent pictures I took of San Ramon—all fairly random—but they give you a flavor for this terrific town. It’s been windy today! And chilly! I’m sure it is still in the 50s but it seems like it is freezing out for someone now used to semi-tropical and tropical temperatures. The winds are supposedly a signal that the season is changing. I do this every year and usually I’m wrong (as it’ll probably rain again tomorrow!). However, AM Costa Rica (www.amcostarica.com) reported that the season is beginning to change as evidenced by the winds picking up, pushing out that sometimes miserable rain! We’ll see. I do know it is getting closer! More signs of change…. Another of signs of change has been the views of the Pacific Ocean looking out from the ... read more

Today, Wed, we went horseback riding on the president’s farm, rolling bright green hills, with amazing vistas with views that went on for miles. The terrain got muddy and mucky at points but these horses were true troopers and gave us a great trip. We were really proud of Adam who had never ridden a horse before and didn’t fall off once! Poor Elena got some bites from horse flies/fleas so her leg looks a little gross but we got her taken care of quickly with allergy medicine and balm to take away the itching. It was a lot of fun to tour the countryside in a unique way. Half way through the ride we got rained on so arrived back at the farm pretty wet but it was so worth it because there we were, ... read more

WOW! I had no idea people were still reading our travel blog. I was looking at the stats from our website and found several people had come from here. A quick check of the stats on this site shows people are indeed reading my posts even though I haven't posted here since July. It just goes to show you people are interested in Costa Rica. Thank-you to those who find and read my site. We haven't done much traveling as Callista has been in school. We've mostly done day trips I didn't think anyone would be interested in. School will be out in another month and we're starting to plan some trips. One trip definately on the schedule is a return to Mt. Chirripo. I'm debating on whether or not to go. Stay tuned to see ... read more

It has been quite some time since I went horseback riding, perhaps as long as six months. A number of factors have contributed to this fact. First, one of my horses died of old age and the remaining one I donated to a friend’s collection of other horses and animals since my surviving horse seemed very lonely. Second, I’ve been working much more than I should. This needs to change! I do enjoy horseback riding and I had a terrific experience recently. The photos on this blog entry are from this trip. So, we saddled up five horses with the premise of going to look at a large farm in the Magallanes section of San Ramon. While we saw the property—or some of it, as it was 172 acres—it was mostly just a fun trip through ... read more

October 5 I´m sitting in the internet cafe adjacent the land developer´s office who I just made a deal with to purchase 3 ocean view lots about 40 minutes from the airport. One of the lots is actually for Jurgen, but if he doesn´t pay me for it within a year, I´ll keep it. Too bad the internet cafe in Atenas where I´m staying isn´t as nice as this one. Anyway, here´s a website that shows the property and the views from the lots. The lots I bought are L9, L2 (for Jurgen), and S9. www.butterflydance.co.cr I hope to be on a plane and flying back to NH on Wednesday (if all the paperwork is done). Like I said, the lots will be in three different corporations, and we need to have a local attorney do ... read more

October 4 It's Thursday morning in Atenas. I'm sitting at an internet cafe lined with 7 slow computers and 5 young school girls dressed in their standard light blue uniforms. I don't know why they aren't in school right now. Anyway, I trekked through the jungle the last two days, but not on a guided rain forest tour. I'm looking at possible real estate investments. The first place was down a rocky road where we parked my Toyota Echo, then walked - then a farmer-land owner we ran into drove us around in his 4 wheel drive truck. I've got videos, of course. I wasn't too impressed with the land I went to look at. It's in the early, early stages of development by Mauricio, Jo Ha's husband. But then Efrain, the farmer-land owner, said he ... read more

The International Baptist Church hosted a Family Camp. The camp was held at La Montana Christian camp facility. http://www.lamontana.org/ We had driven past this facility on our way to La Fortuna back in March. We noticed La Montana because we had stopped for brunch at a soda located across the street from the camp. This facility was designed to reach out to the youth of Costa Rica. The grounds consist of a pond for swimming, walking trails, archery range, soccer field, a couple of rivers, volleyball court, high ropes, and a mud obstacle course. In addition there is a recreation building which houses a small store, skating rink, rock climbing and ping pong. An additional pond with rope swings, slides and bike ramps were under construction. The camp was to begin Friday at 6pm and end ... read more

It has been quite some time since I’ve updated my blog. It’s been well over a month actually which is unusual for me. Since my last entry, travelblog.org crashed and lost a lot of people’s blog entries. Luckily for me, I type all of my entries in MS Word and save them in multiple places (just in case my blog becomes famous after I’m long gone). In fact, if you look at my last blog entry, which travelblog “found,” the captions on the pictures of my trip to Thailand all read, “recovered:” http://www.travelblog.org/Central-America-Caribbean/Costa-Rica/San-Ramon/blog-183513.html. Luckily, travelblog only lost two my 73 blog entries. Now I just need to figure out which two! I think the main reason I have not written is that I’ve been so busy and the only time I seem to have to write ... read more

Hola from Angel Valley! Sorry to have been out of touch. Genetics are a pain sometimes and it seems I have inherited procrastination from my parents and it is a toss up from which one. But in the end...it's all good! For the better part of 2 months, the end of June to the middle of August we had guests almost everyday, with the exception of one or two. This is good, however the one thing I would recommend to anyone thinking of opening a B & B is to have seperate living quarters! Even if your guests are the best in the world, you still need that seperation! We lucked out this go around and none of your guests were too dramatic unlike others in recent history. We have had nothing out of the ordinary ... read more
