Here we are up in the Missouri Ozarks seeing shows in the SHOW ME STATE. We stayed in Poplar Bluff after leaving Kentucky a few days ago and then we arrived in Branson day before yesterday. We wound through Tennessee, Kentucky again and finally Illinois before crossing the Mississippi and into Missouri day before yesterday. Our first show here was the Liverpool Legends show which is of course a Beatles show and was actually superb and I'm not even a Beatles fan. George Harrison's sister was a guest and it was very cool while she told the audience stories and answered questions. The next day (yesterday) we saw the big Broadway show for a matinee. It was great. Then last night we saw Branson's oldest show of 50 years, The Baldknobbers, which had relatives of the ... read more

Today we toured Bowling Green by first taking the fascinating tour of the Lost River Cave where Jesse James reportedly hid out. It was a great boat tour through the cave. We loved it. Mariah's Restaurant is in an old historic building from 1818 so we enjoyed a great lunch there---the best grilled portabella sandwich I've had in ages. We continued on the Civil War Discovery Trail to tour the Kentucky Library and Musuem where we saw the Duncan Hines exhibit and Civil War exhibits. We then visited the Historic Railpark and Train Museum. We cruised Fountain Square and Circus Square and the Riverview and Hobson Grove. We finished out the day enjoying the old-fashioned 100 year-old Beech Bend Amusement Park and Splash Lagoon where we enjoyed a vintage 100 year-old wooden rollar coaster and another ... read more

Yesterday we went to the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington which was wonderful. We got to see many of the most famous horses of all times and even pet Cigar the horse to make the most money and he made millions before retiring. They were all so beautiful and the place was truly spectacular. Then we drove out to Shaker Village and ate lunch at a Shaker restaurant and toured the grounds. We passed Boone's Cave where Daniel Boone spent a winter. We got into Cave City in the evening and toured Dinosaur World and then had a poolside picnic at our motel. Today we went to Kentucky Down Under and saw the animals and wonderful cave tour there and then we went out to Mammoth Cave Nat'l Park. Then we toured the National Corvette Museum ... read more

Our last day in Hendersonville we hiked nearby Triple Falls in the Du Pont Forest where they filmed the Last of the Mohicans and then we drove out to the area my ancestors settled in the 1700's (Candler, NC named after Zachariah Candler my great grandfather back 8 generations). We found some old family graves I had looked up last year while doing geneaology research. It took hours to find them since they were from the 1700's and not even in a real cemetery---people own the property now that was once my relatives' land 200 years ago and the family plot is unmarked and on the property above a meadow---we had to ask many old locals who sent us from one place to another until finally one elderly lady about 80 years old told me she ... read more

Wow, finally weather that's cool and comfy. It's been about 70-75 degrees here up in the gorgeous foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. We even got a cool, sweet smelling, non-humid little rain storm this morning. All the flowers are spectacular everywhere here---millions of wild lillies everwhere----makes me rmemeber how my great grandmother from the Carolinas loved her lillies. Last night we went to local fireworks after we arrived from Charlotte and Carowinds. First time I have worn a jacket in over a month! Today was the first day in ages I did not have to be anywhere at a particular time--almost a day off!!! Tonight we celebrated three of our birthdays together and I made tons of balloon animals and hats and costumes for the kids (and grown ups)----good thing I had a clown business ... read more

Happy 4th of July! July 2 we drove to Carowinds and stopped along the way from Myrtle Beach at Sparkey's and bought a pet hermit crab. We checked into our cabin here at Camp Wilderness and ordered pizza while the kiddo swam in the pool. We caught fireflies for the first time and then in the morning we did a private tour of S. Carolina's Old English Country and Historic Brattonsville (a colonial settlement) where Patriot was filmed with Mel Gibson. It was fabulous and the history was gripping and a woman whose ancestors were the real slaves there on the actual plantation, gave us a period tour as well. They have heriloom chickens and goats and pigs there that are actually endangered and are no longer farmed. It is an actual working plantation still after ... read more

We've spent the last 3 days enjoying Myrtle Beach and the outlying areas. Our pools here at the Marina Grand Dunes are great so we have spent lots of time at the pools and at the beach body surfing. Yesterday we went to Ripley's Aquarium and today we went to Brookgreen Gardens and to Huntington Beach State Park (affiliated with Huntington Beach in California) and we saw alligators in the marsh there and we also body surfed on the beach. So glad the gators stayed in the marsh and did not join us on the beach...I always say "it's better to eat lunch than be lunch!" We had dinner tonight at Senor Frog here in Myrtle Beach---that's two Senor Frogs in one month---2 weeks ago in the Bahamas and now here. ... read more

Yesterday we left Palm Key at 8 a.m. so sorry to leave such a beautiful place and we drove to Santee State Park where we took a morning Fisheagle pontoon tour boat of the swamps and Lake Marion. We saw ospreys feeding their young in huge nests, egrets, herons, alligators, hyacinth, water lillies, Jesus birds (they walk on water), snake birds, and other fascinating things like a dead alligator rotting on the banks of the swamp. (talk about stench from a 14 foot dead alligator in that heat)!! We met Polly, Russ, and Weston at our cabin in the afternoon and we all went out to a wonderful authentic VERY Southern dinner at Lone Star BBQ ust outside the park. Here BBQ is a noun not a verb! We had grits and tomato pie, hush puppies, ... read more

Yesterday we arrived in beautiful Palm Key. This place is magical and so peaceful looking out at the wetlands and islands of South Carolina, with huge majestic oaks and Spanish Moss everywhere. We have a spectacular view from the deck of our gorgeous private rental home. There’s even a few resident alligators in the pond. Last night we saw a tiny baby raccoon that could not even walk yet it was so little. The owners here are multi talented folks and cooked us a fabulous dinner after we went crabbing to collect the daily catch from the crab pots. We steamed them right up---cannot get any fresher than that! Everyone kayaks here to see the dolphins, egrets and other wildlife right from the very cottages and homes when it is high tide---it’s a sight to see. ... read more

After having some fun pirate pancakes at the Pirate Haus in St. Augustine, we headed to the port of Jacksonville for our cruise to the Bahamas on the Carnival Fascination. We enjoyed an art auction and my honey won the golf contest and got the famous " 24 kt. ship on a stick", "vessel on a tressel" to add to our growing collection. It was a great cruise and we enjoyed shows, parties, fine dining, fine wines, swimming, games and of course the Bahamas. We went to Cabbage Beach on Nassau one day and I got my hair braided by Olivia on Nassau and we went to an all inclusive resort in Freeport where we kayaked, sailed a Hobbie Cat, and snorkeled all day. It was wonderful! I even judged the "hairy chest contest" on board! ... read more
