Modeling clothes I sewed and knitted
I sewed the skirt my girl friend is wearing for her birthday and brought it to her in NC. I knitted her scarf and hat last Christmas for her. I sewed her bag for her birthday and my white skirt for me this summer before I left on my trip. Our last day in Hendersonville we hiked nearby Triple Falls in the Du Pont Forest where they filmed the Last of the Mohicans and then we drove out to the area my ancestors settled in the 1700's (Candler, NC named after Zachariah Candler my great grandfather back 8 generations). We found some old family graves I had looked up last year while doing geneaology research. It took hours to find them since they were from the 1700's and not even in a real cemetery---people own the property now that was once my relatives' land 200 years ago and the family plot is unmarked and on the property above a meadow---we had to ask many old locals who sent us from one place to another until finally one elderly lady about 80 years old told me she kinda remembered going there to the plot w/ her parents 70+ years ago---so I felt like Indian Jones when I finally found it all over grown w/ berry bushes and the headstones were hardly legible and some not at all but they are our grandparents 9+ and 10+ generations back. It was truly awesome and to think we are the last known descendents who even

Near our friends' home in Hendersonville, NC know it's there---when my kids are all who know it's there---it will be their responsibility to keep it from being totally destroyed. We found our other aunts and uncles and cousins and grandparents graves in old church cemeteries throughout the entire region in Upper Hominy and Candler, and Upper Glady Fork, all from 1740's and beyond and exactly where records showed they would be.
On July 7 and 8th we enjoyed my second trip ever to the magical and beautiful High Hampton Inn and Country Club in gorgeous Cashiers, NC. (The weather was in the 70's and even 60's and so lovely even though it rained) It is an exquisite and very classy and historic place and reminds me of Kellerman's in Dirty Dancing---very old fashioned in a great way! We played family BINGO the first night and feasted both days on all the wonderful Southern Gourmet dining there three times a day plus afternoon teas. On the 8th was the annual Teddy Bear Picnic and my kiddo won two of the bear contests (blue ribbons) so she'll be in the High Hampton Teddy Bear Hall of Fame now. They had a marvelous celebration with hundreds of kids with

We even did a fly fishing lesson at HHI and my daughter is a natural---she got the rhythm and technique down perfectly right off---the guide was amazed. I was not so quick to learn but once I got the hang of it (all my years of regular casting and fishing were against me---I had to unlearn old habits)----I was hooked---no pun intended---now I cannot wait to fly fish more in the future!
Today we left High Hampton (after eating a delectable breakfast of grits, bisquits and gravy, and wonderfully seasoned chicken livers) and travelled across the eastern Continental Divide along the Great Smoky Mt. Expressway and the Blue Ridge Mts. which were spectacular and so cool and wonderful after all the humidity and heat the past month. We crossed through Tennessee briefly today and then into Kentucky as we passed the Cumberland Gap and Trail and even Boonesborough named after our great uncle 8 generations back, Daniel Boone. When we reached Lexington we toured the spectacular Henry Clay estate--wow what captivating American History there! Simply unforgettable! Then we went to a baseball game---my first in

Full of relatives from 1800's and older. about 25 years---our hostess took us to the Lexington Legends and Savannah Sand Gnats.
We have had a very busy last few days and those are just the highlights! Thankfully I had a break from email (no access at HHI) but now I pay for it being behind on my blog and emails.
