Ferny was staying in Paris for a couple of more days and I was heading off. I grabbed some breakfast and heading back to our favourite area where we had that duck, only this time picking up a pain au chocolate. It’s only available earlier in the day and I kept missing the window. Not today. I got one from a bakery called Boulanger Patisser and it was heavenly! Once I got to the bus depot at the airport, I found out the bus was going to be 25 minutes late. I want to find a fridge magnet for my collection earlier that morning, but no stores were open. I couldn’t find one at the airport but I did find a sandwich at a hotel gift shop. It pained me to spend 6.50 € for something ... read more

We got downstairs too late for breakfast. We got to The Louvre, the lineup was quite big, but after 30 minutes we made it in. Most importantly, we made it in before the storm came through. There’s some pretty neat stuff inside. I’m not a huge art person, but it’s incredible what people could do then with what they had. The Mona Lisa was drawing the biggest crowd. Off to the side, Ferny and I heard saw some pretentious douchebag taking a video of himself expressing his thoughts that, “People don’t appreciate the Mona Lisa for what it is anymore blah, blah, blah……”. We both stared him down until he felt uncomfortable and stopped filming himself. What a fucking tool. After two hours, we just wanted to get out of there, so we just zoomed through ... read more

We had the continental breakfast downstairs. We picked up some fruit, and sandwiches and headed out to Versailles. The lineup for pre-purchased ticket holders was four lines 60 yards long. We waited and hour to get in. The thing that gets you about a place like that is it’s sheer size of the building and the property it’s on. Afterwards we went by the Eiffel Tower. We were going to go up but the lineup was about two hours long and it cost 30 €. We just viewed it at a distance and then it started pissing rain. We grabbed sandwiches before we went back to the hostel and I did laundry at a place nearby. It was somewhat confusing, but someone help me out there when he saw me struggling. I managed to lose a ... read more

Knowing you have to catch a plane is a great motivator to get your ass out of bed at 4:00 am, no matter how little sleep you’ve had. I know it was adrenaline getting me going because I could feel myself crashing an hour later. I slept the entire one hour 15 minute plane ride. In the Paris metro station, it was honestly pretty funny to watch Ferny ask how to buy a pass, because he made zero attempt to speak French and assumed the worker spoke English. We’re in their hood now. At the Oops! Hostel Paris, we actually ended up getting a two bed only room, so we didn’t have to share the space with anyone else. But this meant interaction with others was next to none. The water tasted notably better than the ... read more

I didn't get a great night's sleep. The hostel was very close to the Borough Market. Ferny and I checked Southwark Cathedral and walked through the market several times. There’s tons of great food there. I settled on a venison meat pie, a scotch egg and a raw oyster. We ran into the Aussie from our hostel again and it became a running joke from there on. We biked to St. Paul’s Cathedral. I had already been inside of it, so instead I wandered around One New Change Mall and went to the Library to do trip research and blogging. I met Ferny a couple of hours later where we went to Canary Wharf. It’s the financial hub of London and it’s the area where I stayed that last time. We met Conor at Dishoom and ... read more

I slept from 3:00 am to 9:30, then fell back asleep until 11:30. Surprisingly, I didn't feel that bad. Only as if I had a late night out back home. I cleaned up and we headed out with Conor and his girlfriend to hopefully get Sunday roast at a place called Blacklock in Soho. The restaurant was fully booked. We waited for 45 minutes at a Korean place called soju & co. Ferny found another place on his phone called The Crown and Two Chairmen. Places only cook so much roast on Sunday. Luckily, they had exactly four plates left. This was our first proper meal in London and it was spectacular! I am going to try to reproduce this meal, but there were many aspects to it. Yorkshire pudding, roasted veggies and potatoes, roast of ... read more

Ferny and I race walked our asses off of the plane to customs. The last time I was at Heathrow in 2012, I was stuck in that queue for over two hours. Ferny's colleague made him aware of the wait as well. Surprisingly, the lineup wasn't more than 30 minutes. We bought return tickets to Heathrow from Paddington Station because both of us will be flying back home through London. The weather was colder than expected, in the high teens at most. We stopped and grabbed a donair, our first real meal in 12 hours. We got to St. Christopher's Inn London Bridge. It's located above a traditional pub and has live music until 1:00 am. The place is pretty old and the bathrooms are kind of gross. Unpacking I discovered I left my gym shorts ... read more

I knew it was going to be a long day. Waking up at 7:00 am to tie up many loose ends before my 6:40 pm flight. I had to finish packing, squeeze in one last ride on the motorcycle, attempt to see the doctor, and go to my parents house. Exchanging money took especially long because I had forgotten that it was the BC Day long weekend and many people were heading stateside. I cleaned up and thought I had left enough of a buffer so I could take my time getting to the airport to avoid rushing and sweating. It was quite muggy out and just as I was leaving my place I had a quick chat with my neighbour. As a result, I missed the bus and decided to walk down to the Canada ... read more
