We have a couple of days in Vienna such a fantastic city, with beautiful grand buildings and architecture. Cruising along the Danube is wonderful, just watching the scenery go by. Of course eating so much good food. This morning caught shuttle bus to town at 9.15am. Walked around looked at beautiful buildings and statues. Tried to catch 11am bus back but didnt turn up so caught taxi back. There was a fire emergency in next street so all traffic was diverted away. Had some lunch then went for a bike ride this afternoon along the river bank. Lovely bunch of people we are with, mostly Aussies and few from NZ. Tonight late we start cruising again.... read more

Went up to sun deck for a very short while but far too cold & windy, so back to room. Beautiful sunset tonight. Captains reception cocktails then gala welcome dinner tonight.... read more

Up early for sunrise on Bled Lake, bit cool with very glass like lake. Great reflections on the lake with no one around but just joggers and photographers. Leisurely breakfast at 7.30am, then depart 9am for row boat trip across to Bled Island and Mary's church. Spent couple hours on the island looking at church, mostly now used for weddings. Good views back to town across the lake. Rowed back to shore then bus to Bled Castle, very high overlooking the town and lake. Back to town for pizza lunch. After lunch girls walked to the laundromat whilst Pio & I sat by the lake with bottle of wine. Then went for a coffee at the original Bled Cream Cake cafe (no cake was eaten). Picnic dinner tonight.... read more

After a reasonable night, apart from the very basic room amenities, a good breakfast then the Plitvice Lakes tour. We decided on the easier walking tour as I'm not feeling so good. First stop was to view the Big Waterfall, stunning even though it was a little dry with not much water falling. Walking trail along the top of ridge overlooking the lakes, perfect blue waters. Caught tram to upper lakes where we walked the boardwalks around the lake edge. Stunning clear water. Plenty pictures taken. Depart 12.30 for Opatjia. Reasonable drive to Opatjia, arrived 5pm. Hotel Continental, older style but comfortable. Went forwalk around the town and promenade. Back for buffet dinner which was good then bed.... read more

After reasonable night sleep breakfast at 7am, what a terrible breakfast mainly as there was no staff on duty. After complaining at reception some staff came out to clean the tables and bring some more food out. Departed 8am for long drive today. Roadstop at waterfalls bus station, Posjeti - Dozivi, lovely view of the falls but disgusting toilet facilities. Stopped fo lunch at roadside cafe which was very good, we had preordered our menu. On the road again then had to disembark for border crossing. Bosnia into Croatia. Arrived at Hotel Jezero at 5.15pm, very basic rooms, thankfully only one night. Dinner out tonight.... read more

After pretty lousy breakfast, departed for Sarajevo town and tunnels at 9am. Very good guide, Elek??, who discussed the lead up to the forced enclosure of Sarajevo in 1991, then why the tunnels hsd to be dug to allow supplies to be bought into the city. Meanwhile the fighting and snipering carried on in the city. Saw a video of the conflict and then walk through the tunnel section. Bus into the old town for a walk through the streets, stopped at the bridge where Ferdinand was shot which was the precursor to WW1. Then into the town for walk past the major sights, cathedral, mosque, bazaar and shops. We had lunch of chiperlatas, very good, then looked around ourselves but was very cold and windy. Back to hotel at 4pm, then evening to ourselves.... read more
