Today we cruised into Amsterdam at 10am, our last port of call. After breakfast we started to pack bags. Lunch then a lovely cruise around the canals in a small glass topped motor boat. Lots of typical Dutch homes on the canal banks and being Sunday lots of people about. Bikes everywhere ridden by young and old. Plenty of museums, shops and offices around too. Across on the newer side of river are plenty modern glass buildings. Tonight we pack and tomorrow leave our ship at 6.15am for flight to Prague. So its early rise at 4.30am. ... read more

Arrived Cologne at 7am. After leisurely breakfast departed for Augustusburg Palace in Bruhl. Palace constructed for Clemens August (1700-1761) prince elector and Archbishop of Cologne. Oppulent Rococo style with the most amazing grand marble staircase as important guests arrived in their coaches. Palace only used in the spring/summer by the prince elector as a reception house for international guests. Very lavish state receptions were held by the German state in recent times here. Quick look at the gardens then 15min drive to his hunting lodge. Here to was grand oppulent apartments plus a falconry. We had a good look inside then returned to ship for lunch. After lunch quick walk along the promenade towards town. Departed for Amsterdam at 4.30pm. Farwell Gala Dinner tonight.... read more

After breakfast arrived Rudesheim. Hopped on the tourist bus for drive around town then to Siegfrieds Musical Museum. Privately owned collection of historical mechanical instruments. Very interesting display of pneumatic and mechanical organs, pianolas & street organs. After strolled through cobbled streets and alleys back to the ship. Lunch then cruise the picturesque Rhine Valley. Sailed through the Rhine Valley Gorge, very scenic, castles on the hill tops overlooking the river and villages. Some castles in ruins others now privately owned hotels. Around every bend another perfect view, cute villages backdropped by forests judt turning yellow for autumn or steep mountains with ruins atop. Because the river is so low many people enjoying the rocky riverbanks either fishing, picnicing or sunbaking. Could only just cruise through the gorge as the low water mark was 53cm. Breakfast then sailed the River Main for Miltenberg. Lovely rivershore views as we cruised then arrived Miltenberg 11am. Walked the lovely Altstadt streets, so many cute buildings. Plenty of timber beamed shops brightly painted. Back for lunch then departed 2pm for home hosting visit to Marita's home. Had a lovely afternoon tea with apple cake and chatted about living in her village. Marita's friend Ursula joined our group of 10 so plenty to chat about, and looked around Marita's home and garden. Departed 4pm for sailing overnight to Rudesheim.... read more

Breakfast then departed for city tour 9am. Started at the Palace, visit the Court Chapel, walk through the gardens then through the town to the marketplace. On our own to explore the shops. After breakfast bus into Bamberg, started the walking tour then went exploring on our own. Such a beautiful old town, cute shops, bridges, all picture perfect. Stopped for morning coffee and visit to pharmacy. Shopped at gift shop then quickly back to shuttle bus and ship. Leaving 12noon for Wurzburg. Very relaxed afternoon cruising, stunning shoreline, trees changing colour for Autumn.... read more

Early breakfast. Pack bags for ship swap today. Departed 8.45am for Nuremberg about 4.5 hr drive. Comfort stop after 2.5 hrs then lunch stop in Nuremberg, good pizzas at Italian restaurant. Bit of walk around but not enough time. Bus city tour, stopping where the Nazi party rallies were held. Bus to TM Diamond then sailed for Bamberg at 5pm ... read more

Woke up this morning in Brandstadt near Linz, back in Austria. Easy breakfast then Kelly & Dalyse going on the Open Air Village Bavarian Forest. Displays of buildings from 1580 to 1850, oldest German primary school from 1666, old farms, chapels & mills. Farm gardens & animals, also farmhouses furnished as they would have been. Pio & Rob stayed on deck as weather miserable. Back for lunch then have to start packing up as tomorrow transferring to TM Diamond. Water is so low cannot pass through the locks so will transfer to Diamond other side of the lock. We will be busing to Nuremburg for visit & lunch then onto other ship.... read more

Woke today to most glorious sunrise. Sleep in then breakfast as mostly a cruising day on the Danube. Soon dropped of others doing the day trips which left just some on board to ourselves, much quieter on board now. Sat in our room watching the views go by, mostly forests down to the river, trees just starting to turn colour for Autumn. Moved to the sundeck after a strudel making exhibition by the chef. Just perfect on the sundeck watching the views. Lovely sunny day with little breeze. Lunch then arrived Passau. What an entrance to a most beautiful town with cathedrals and churches in amongst the cobbled streets and squares. Walked on our through the streets to St Stephen's cathedral, very baroque interior, very beautiful and interesting. Back on board for dinner. ... read more

Sailed overnight to Durnstein. Arrived for breakfast at 8am. Then walked the town. So beatiful and quaint. Climbed half way up to old castle ruins, some more amazing views overlooking the town & river. Departed noon for cruise through the Wachau Valley to Melk. Picture perfect villages, churches and riverviews. Arrived Melk 3pm, to tour the Melk Abbey. Interesting tour of Melk Abbey, Benedictine monks still at Abbey also school still running. Enormous grounds, halls and squares. Completely renovated in 1700's baroque style. Back to ship for dinner.... read more
