Scotland is BEAUTIFUL! We arrived here in Edinburgh yesterday. It's so interesting to see crazy medieval architecture right next to posh, modern shopping centers. Yesterday, on the drive here, we stopped at Hadean's Wall, a wall built by the Romans in 122 AD. There isn't much left of it, but it was still neat to see and touch something that is SO old. Last night, we attended a Scottish show, complete with kilts and tartans and bagpipes. During intermission, we had a haggas/whiskey toast. I wasn't excited for EITHER of these two things, but when in Rome, eh? Haggas didn't taste bad...kinda like meatloaf. But I really didn't like the texture, so I wouldn't consider myself a fan. I didn't finish it, but at least I tried! Ian would be proud. :P It stays light here ... read more

Yes please! Ok, so we headed over to Kilkenny after Dublin and rode on our first train, which was amazing. I am now in love with train rides; they are comfy and you have a table to play cards on! So Kilkenny is a really Irish town that it is very small with a bad ass castle. We did a tour of this castle (after taking a tour of the castle grounds, which we both took the opportunity to pee on our first castle!) and during this tour we came upon a huge marble table. Whilst Dillon was sitting upon this table the guide goes on to tell the group that it was used to lay the dead bodies on during the wake. So he was embarassed and stood up quickly, then proceeded to exclaim, ''Shit!'', ... read more

Hey all! Kate here, typing to you from England! We arrived in London at about 11:30 AM on June 13. Our plane left late because of quite a few problems. (Ian, I'm sure you can imagine how I felt about that situation, hahaha), one of which was that they couldn't turn the cabin lights off. So we flew the entire 10+ hours with ALL of the lights on. Impossible to sleep. That day, we took the bus into the tourist-y part of town which included Westminster Abby, Big Ben, Parliament, and the London Eye. It took us over an hour to get there from our hotel because we had NO idea how the bus system worked and couldn't find the underground. Oh well, it was quite an adventure. After that, we went back to our room ... read more

Ok so we were running on 40 hrs with maybe 20 min of sleep. So we were dead... but then we met some guys back at the hostel about dillons age and they convinced us to go to the pubs. so we did some bar hopping i had a 17$ jameson and coke and dillon and 60$ in beer. you must think us crazy ya? know the irish are crazy for charging so damn much! the cheapest thing we could find was bananas and chips then 5$ us small hamburger. it is killing us. dillon looked at me today and shook his head as he finished his burger and said, '' ya i am losing weight here''. oh well, we knew it was coming, just not quite so hard. so we are going to start buying ... read more

Hi everyone! Kate here. According to my little internet countdown on my myspace, I officially have 6 days, 18 hours, 2 minutes, and 52 seconds before my plane leaves London-bound. In these last few days at home, Ian and I have A LOT scheduled. Today is Dillon's graduation from high school. Tomorrow, the two of them have to drive to LA because of what has become the first unforeseen mini-disaster of our trip. Dillon's passport is expired. Apparently, they both got their passports along with their parents some time ago, but Dillon was so young that his was only good for 5 years. None of us thought to check! Thank goodness they discovered it yesterday and have an appt. in LA tomorrow at the passport registering place. YIKES. That was close. Then on Saturday we have ... read more

Europe April 8th 2008

Hey all! So it's Kate again. I decided I'd blog about the top 10 sights I'm most looking forward to seeing/things I'm looking forward to doing, mostly for me to look back on later and see what I actually thought about each one. Also, to get feedback from any of you who have beenthere/donethat with any of these places and have any tips or suggestions. These aren't really in any particular order. It's difficult to order something like this. #10: Stonehenge; England So I know that everyone who's been there says Stonehenge is kinda small and not-so-interesting, but it's just one of those things you want to visit for yourself. Plus, there's sheep. #9: Lauterbrunnen; Switzerland Just outside of Interlaken, Lauterbrunnen is a glacial valley that, to me, looks like Yosemite on steroids. There are waterfalls ... read more

Okay, so let the official countdown begin! Ian has officially 65 days before he leaves for Europe, and I have 67. Reason being, he's traveling with his little bro for 2 weeks while I travel with my mom for 2 weeks. Both of us will be hitting England and Scotland separately during these 2 weeks, plus Ian and Dillon will be visiting Ireland, and my mom and I will be going to Wales. We're both excited about these first trips, and will meet up in England on June 26. From here, we'll kiss my mom goodbye, and then takeoff just the 3 of us. With Dillon, we'll visit Bruges and Brussels, in Belgium, and Amsterdam in The Netherlands. Then we'll fly to Dro, Italy to meet Ian and Dillon's super-Italian relatives that live there! We'll stay ... read more
