Geo: 48.8566, 2.35097Wow! I'm in Paris!! Today's weather was a bit like Melbourne weather, a real mix. After a bit of walking and wandering around I found the bus I wanted to take me to Ile de la Cite. I walked along the Seine and took many photos of the bridges and Notre Dame in the distance. It was very, very busy in Notre Dame, everyone was snappy away with their cameras. There were also quite a few school groups- I'm suppose to be on a holiday from children. There were lots of little chapels on the sides dedicated to saints. There was also a confessions area that wasn't very busy, where would I start???? Near Notre Dame is the Crypte Archologique, which has remains of old walls and buildings that were once in this area.... read more

Geo: 48.8566, 2.35097The e-bay idea didn't really work because I couldn't wait for the auction to end, so I searched for a cheap flight and Paris was it! The flight was great and short. The drive to the hotel was an experience. All the driver knew how to do was continually beep people who weren't doing anything wrong!! I don't look forward to being a pedestrian here. Who can tell me why the keyboard here is different? It is really annoying and taking me a long time to type!! Here are a few French symbols, § ù µ ¤ ç à è.... read more

Geo: 51.5002, -0.126236First stop was the Tower of London. I was excited because this looked like a castle! I wish the moat was still filled with water, it would have looked more effective. In the White Tower I saw lots of armour and weapons. The axe that was used for chopping off heads was huge- there was no chance of it missing the target. Also saw torture machines- the stretcher and the cruncher. In the Jewel House I saw the Crown Jewels. There were many huge and sparkly jewels and crowns. They were very elaborate and probably would be heavy to wear! There was a lot of shiny gold crockery. The best gold piece was the huge punch bowl- it sure beat the one we used at uni (a garbage bin!!). There are lots of towers ... read more

Geo: 51.5002, -0.126236Headed into London late in the afternoon and toured the city. First stop was Harrods which was well lit up but hard to photograph without being blurry!! It was closed so I didn't get to have a browse. Then caught the bus to the river and walked along the Thames to Tower Bridge. This also looked really good at night. Tonight was a chance for me to try out my new beanie and I love it!! So nice and warm. Tower of London looked really big from the outside and also looked great at night!!... read more

Geo: 51.5002, -0.126236Today the sky was blue and sunny, but still cold outside. First stop was the Tate Gallery of British Art. This was an okay gallery only because I didn't know many of the artists. Walked past the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben chimed. Saw the London Eye close up. I am in no rush to go on it. I will wait until I better know the city. Walked along the river and came across Cleopatra's Needle. It was made in 1500 BC of pink granite in Egypt and came to London 1819. It has a twin in New York.... read more

Geo: 51.5002, -0.126236I went into London today. Travelling around was get much easier now. Again I caught the train to central London and then changed onto the underground tube network and got off at Chancery Lane. Today I had to open a bank account with HSBC for when I start working later on in the year. It was quite a quick and easy process, now it was time to do some more sightseeing. Then I decided to walk to Leicester Square. I walked in the wrong direction and ended up at Oxford Circus. Oxford Circus is on the well-known shopping street of Oxford St. It was very busy at Oxford Circus and I was overwhelmed, so I went underground. I caught the tube to Trafalgar Square, in hindsight, it would have been quicker to walk and ... read more

Geo: 51.5002, -0.126236I headed into London today on a mission to see the many tourist attractions and take lots of photos. I got off at London Bridge station and walked along the Thames River. The sky was clear and it was a beautiful day so far. Then into view came Tower Bridge, it looked pretty cool. It was one of the few sights that I recognised as I walked along the pedestrian river path. I took lots and lots of photos - who knows when the sky will be blue again? It's not easy taking photos with gloves on and it's a hassle constantly taking them off and on, it won't be long until I lose one of them. I also walked past HMS Belfast, which is a permanently moored museum ship. Then just past the HMS ... read more

Geo: 51.2408, -0.170086This morning I asked Val if she could drive me into town. I was in pain when I put my shoes on. I made a big mistake by not breaking in my hiking shoes before this trip. The blister was huge and the skin had come off. She said yes. I have found the place to go to buy summer shoes- Clarks. So many nice pairs of shoes. Here I found a pair of brown slip on shoes to wear so that I won't be housebound for the next week waiting for it to heal. Back at home, I read my guide book and made sightseeing plans for the day after tomorrow.... read more

Geo: 51.2408, -0.170086Yes, everyone was right it will be cold in the UK and it certainly is. It's mid morning and only 2 degrees outside. I am sitting here looking out the window in between using the computer. Outside it has been snowing for three hours and it looks beautiful. Just as well that the weather isn't great, because I have a big blister on my heel and couldn't go out if I wanted to until it heals. I tried to take photos, but the snow didn't show up too well. I am staying in today and watching TV. I saw the milkman delivering milk this morning. He leaves the glass milk bottles on ... read more

Geo: 51.2408, -0.170086I braved the cold this afternoon and walked into the town of Redhill. Ten minutes later with a frozen nose and lips I was in the shopping centre, where it is nice and warm. I needed/wanted some shoes, so I browsed the shoe shops. I ended up getting a pair of suede-like boots, as I paid for them the sales assistants warned me that she doesn't recommend them to be worn outside - well what good are they then! I still bought them from the department store called Marks and Spencer. I also saw some clothes here that I like, so I will have to return. I enjoyed shopping today, as I haven't been shopping for months due to saving money for this overseas adventure.... read more
