Wow! I'm in Paris!! Today's weather was a bit like Melbourne weather, a real mix. After a bit of walking and wandering around I found the bus I wanted to take me to Ile de la Cite. I walked along the Seine and took many photos of the bridges and Notre Dame in the distance. It was very, very busy in Notre Dame, everyone was snappy away with their cameras. There were also quite a few school groups- I'm suppose to be on a holiday from children. There were lots of little chapels on the sides dedicated to saints. There was also a confessions area that wasn't very busy, where would I start???? Near Notre Dame is the Crypte Archologique, which has remains of old walls and buildings that were once in this area.Due to yesterday's mild weather I left my scarf, umbrella and gloves in my room and as I left Notre Dame it began to hail- good thing for the many souvenir shops along the river.
alked along the river while still on the island
and visited Sainte Chapelle- a must see destination according to my guide book. It was a little church with beautiful stained glass windows. Crossed Pont Neuf to find some food- apple tart and a hot chocolate. The line at the Musee d'Orsay was long, but 20 mins later I was inside. This is a cool looking building from the inside because it used to be a railway station. Saw Monet, Renoir, Van Gogh and Cezanne. Also saw Rodin's 'The Gates of Hell', which included his famous 'The Thinker', a statue which I remember seeing at work and a fuss was made over it. Now I know why. Again, many school groups around.
Walked out of the metro station and in front of me was the Arc di Triomphe. The road in front of me was crazy, cars everywhere coming from all 12 entry/exit roads, how do tourists cross the road was a mystery to me. Then I saw the sign for an underground passage! I slowly climbed up all the way to the top. From here I could see
many of Paris' famous landmarks. This was a good height and not too many steps. Found a great little place for dinner- vanilla slice and a hot chocolate which was really well priced, hope I can find this place again. Went back to my room to put my feet up and rest.
