Today was supposed to be an easy day. It wasn't. We got up at 6am to pack -- except we got a call that our driver was there to pick us up (45 minutes early!). So we scrambled to get ready and left about 6:20a. Got to the airport, checked in -- and had to check our bags (and I stupidly let them bully me into checking my insulin and food because they scared me into believing they wouldn't allow them). We were done and through and waiting to board, when we got an announcement our flight was delayed. It was supposed to leave at 9:15a but got delayed until 12:35p. Ugh! And it wasn't even the fog that was the cause! We played cards and read to pass the time. I'm not sure what time ... read more

For some sights being closed on Monday, today was a looooong day. We had trouble sleeping so we were up kind of early. We got picked up at 10a and our driver doubled as our tour guide - so we didn't really know what we were seeing or what was going on. The first place we went was Raj Ghat, a memorial to Mahatma Gandhi that is a simple black marble platform that marks the spot of his cremation. It was a very nice, well kept park, aand in the middle of a square area, there was the memorial. It was crowded, but still pretty peaceful. Next we went to this small marble temple, right next to Akshardham Temple (which was closed). It had really exquisite carvings and was really pretty. We had to take our ... read more

We got up early this morning to sightsee before heading back to Delhi. We stopped by briefly to see the Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds) which is constructed of red and pink sandstone. It's part of the City Palace and extends the women's/harem's chambers. They were able to look out the windows and see what was going on, but no one could look in at them. It really had a nice glow to it in the morning. We then drove up to the Amber Palace, which was up on a mountain. It was really a cool place. Around the hills there was a wall and watchtowers, and up above the palace was a fort. We had a really great view of Jaipur from way up. The palace itself was pretty, and the highlite was a smaller ... read more

Today was another long day of traveling. We left Agra at 9am, and got to Jaipur at 3pm (6 hour trip!!) The ride was good though -- much different landscape. It seemed a bit greener, more trees and fields. Also there are a lot more camels around these parts. When we got to Jaipur, we picked up our tour guide and headed off to the Jantar Mantar Observatory. On the way we saw our first elephant! It was cool and crazy to see an elephant just walking down the street doing work like the camels or cows. The observatory was a neat place to see. It had these cool sun dials -- which worked incredibly well for being old. There was a smaller one that told the time to 20 seconds, and then the largest one ... read more

It's 2:55a, and I'm only awake for one reason.....my luggage finally came!!! I had given up on it around 10:30p (since it was supposed to be here between 8-9p). But the front desk gave us a call a little after 2a to tell us that it was here. This I don't mind being woken up for. But since I'm up I can write about today, since I fell asleep without doing it. Got a lot of sleep last night. Felt good. Got up and dressed and just as we were heading down to get some breakfast -- it showed up to us! It was very filling (eggs, toast, lots of tea). The big breakfasts are nice (since we have been skipping lunch due to traveling in the car). At 9:30a, we went down and met our ... read more

It's been another long day. I'm already exhausted! I want to try and stay awake later so that I don't wake up at 4am again. My luggage is still not with me, but it's in India. We are calling about it again tomorrow morning. Our ride to Agra took about 5 hours. It was a loooong trip. Lot's of random traffic, an accident (I guess they do happen!) and our driver stopping for unknown reasons. At one such stop, all these people swarmed the car trying to sell us stuff. Luckily our driver had locked us inside. The most interesting was the guy with the two monkeys trying to get us to pay for pictures with them. He shook their leash and they jumped up on the car's window! Also the guy with the cobra in ... read more

Getting here was long (about 24 hours). We boarded our flight in San Francisco and left at 7:50p on Monday, landed in London at 2 in the afternoon Tuesday (9.5 hour flight) and quickly got to our connecting flight to Delhi. We got in at 4:50a on Wednesday (8+ hour flight) with minimal sleep (2-3 hours tops for me) and waited in the huge immigration line. Gots me a new stamp in the passport and went off to get our luggage -- that they made us check (we were hoping to carry it on with us). Adam's came out really quickly and mine never showed up. A woman working for the airline checked her list and mine was some of the luggage that never left London (great). I had to go wait at a counter, fill ... read more

Today was our last full day in Tokyo and in Japan. It was very warm today, 85 degrees (F). It'll be nice to go home to cool nights! We had breafast this morning in the Garden Court -- a room overlooking a beautiful garden. Afterwards we headed for Asakusa to see the temple there and do our last minute gift shopping. The street up to the temple is lined with touristy places to shop. We got a bunch of our gifts there. It's a souviner mecca! Then we headed to the hotel to drop off our goodies and had lunch at a sushi place close by. It had a conveyor belt that brought the sushi round and round!! You grab the plates you want, and then they charge you by the plate (they have 2 different ... read more

It was warm here today - 80 degrees (F). We started the day off with our free american breakfast, which was pretty good. It was buffet-style and on the 40th floor, so we got a nice view of Tokyo. Afterwards we took the metro to the Imperial Palace, and walked through the East Garden - which is the only part open to the public. There were some beautiful flowers in bloom, the colors were just amazing. Because it was warm we decided to go to Ebisu and visit the Sapporo/Yebisu Beer Museum. It was free to go into and they had a small telling of the history and how the beer is made. Nothing like the Guiness museum in Dublin! But they had a tasting room. They have these vending machines you put your money into ... read more

So we are at our final destination. As we were leaving Hakone it was getting really crowded, so I guess it was good we were leaving. Today is the first day of Golden Week. We took a bullet train to Tokyo - Very fast! And we got to our hotel, The New Otani, right as it started to rain. This hotel is gigantic. Very impressive. I hope I don't get lost in it. The hotel is located in Akasaka, and we have a metro stop pretty close by, so that's nice. We took the subway into Ginza to go to the Sony building. It was a pretty cool building -- Dad was drooling over the TV's! They had some other cool electronics, but nothing super super new (that can't be seen in the US). Afterwards we ... read more
