Diwan-i-Am
Hall of Public Audience. Where the Peacock Throne once was. Was used to speak to the people and listen to petitioners. It's 2:55a, and I'm only awake for one reason.....my luggage finally came!!! I had given up on it around 10:30p (since it was supposed to be here between 8-9p). But the front desk gave us a call a little after 2a to tell us that it was here. This I don't mind being woken up for. But since I'm up I can write about today, since I fell asleep without doing it.
Got a lot of sleep last night. Felt good. Got up and dressed and just as we were heading down to get some breakfast -- it showed up to us! It was very filling (eggs, toast, lots of tea). The big breakfasts are nice (since we have been skipping lunch due to traveling in the car). At 9:30a, we went down and met our driver who took us to Agra Fort (also known as the Red Fort of Agra). The place is huge. A lot of it is under military occupancy, but we got to walk through some of it. I loved the intricacies of some of the carved stone, and the archways. A lot of what we walked through faced the Taj Mahal, and even though it
Agra Fort
A hallway inside the Agra Fort. was a bit hazy out, we could still see it pretty well. I guess some days the haze is so bad, that you can't see the Taj Mahal from the fort (even though they are only 2.5 km apart).
We explored for about 2 hours -- Adam kept trying to find little hidden places to go, but most were locked up. He did find one wall to climb over, but not much was there. It was a fun morning though. Flying around the fort were these super-green birds. They looked really pretty against the red stone.
In the afternoon we walked around a little bit -- found an internet place by our hotel that was ontop of a marble shop. They served us tea, and after we were done with the computers, took us to their showroom. We were given the same schpiel about the marble (almost verbatim) but his prices were cheaper. We didn't buy anything though. We then went in search of a place to recharge the minutes on Adam's cell phone. We found one pretty quickly -- they are all over the place.
We spent the rest of the afternoon reading and hoping my luggage would
Agra Fort
The hazy Taj Mahal as seen from the Agra Fort. show up. For dinner tonight we tried hot and sour chicken soup, roti and chicken mughlai. It was all good. The chicken dish is part of northern Indian cuisine (so says the guide book), so it was good that we tried it. It's served in a creamy sauce, made with cream and spices.
It then got later and no luggage. Adam called and they said anytime it would show up. Finally we got the 2am call. I got to take a shower, which was only cold water, and i have on clean PJ's!!
The only thing missing from my bag is laundry detergent. Which I either didn't pack or someone took out of the side pocket. But whatever. I'm incredibly happy to have my stuff. I can stop worrying about it and change my clothes.
Tomorrow we leave for Jaipur. Hopefully it doesn't take us too long to get there 😉 Now to call home (since it's day there) and go back to sleep!
