Europe » Croatia » Central Croatia » Zagreb August 23rd 2014

I arrive in Zagreb via overnight train from Frankfurt. I was not knowing what to expect for this trip. I do not have much experience in Eastern Europe, and I also have never used the Croatian currency Kuna. I had to familiarize myself with this, but this really should not be an issue. It was sprinkling rain when I arrived, and I had to find my hostel from the train station. I knew the instructions said it was about a fifteen minute walk, so I tried to keep whatever covered and dry as I possibly could and away I go. The instructions say to go towards the cathedral, and I see it in the distance for it looks really tall, so that is the direction I walk in. I make it to the cathedral, and the ... read more

Europe » Germany August 21st 2014

The start of an European adventure and vacation to me is always full with excitement and a little anxiety. One never knows how the next several days will turn out, what they might see, and what hiccups may come along the way. I originally only chose Frankfurt as my beginning point for I could fly in fairly cheaply. I did not know much about the city nor it's beauty. I quickly found out what a beautiful city it is. Frankfurt is Germany's second largest metropolitan region, and is considered a global city. Due to its central location within Germany and Europe, Frankfurt is a major air, rail and highway transport hub. Frankfurt airport is one of the world's busiest. The Frankfurt Central Station is one of the largest terminal stations in Europe, and one of the ... read more

Europe » Switzerland » North-East » Zürich » Zürich September 21st 2013

I find myself on a train again heading towards Zurich as the last leg of my amazing European trip. I absolutely love this train trip through the Swiss Alps. The views are stunning. This is the second time I have been privileged to make this journey, and I really tried to soak it in. You never know if you will be on this path again, so I wanted to just stare out my window and take it all in. I took some photos of some of the amazing beauty I saw, however I am not so sure the pictures will do justice seeing they were taken from inside a train going exceptionally fast. Upon arrival to the main train station, I felt familiar seeing I had been there before. I was not as intimidated as I ... read more

Europe » Austria » Vienna September 20th 2013

I arrive in Vienna, tired but excited. The first task is to find the transit from the main train station. After spending some time finding my way around the train station, I finally find the right train to get on to take me to the correct stop where my hostel is located. The backpack is heavy, my feet were tired, but once on the train, I was refreshed and relieved. I make it to my stop, and depart the train station. Of course it is raining outside, but I put my rain jacket hat on, and trudge on. My hostel was very close, so it did not take too long to find. I started out on the complete wrong side of the street, but as I normally do, I just keep on keeping on until I ... read more

Europe » Germany » Bavaria » Munich September 18th 2013

Munich, I love visiting this city. This actually was more of a feel good stop for me. Meaning, I am very comfortable here with location, transit system, food. I knew I would be travelling to different areas of Europe this year, and I needed that calmness of being confident and experienced with my travel. Munich does this for me. Actually this time, I did not do a whole lot in Munich. I arrived, found my hostel and just chilled out. I went to the Hofbrauhaus to get me some dinner and listen to the music. Now when you visit the Hofbrauhaus, you know when you walk in the door that you probably are in for a treat. Every time I have been, the place is just packed, and the band start to kick it up and ... read more

Europe » Luxembourg » Luxembourg City September 17th 2013

Luxembourg is a country that I have never been too, and I decided to visit Luxembourg City for the day. My thoughts were if I liked enough that I may come back in the future for a longer stay. I researched just a small bit, and the photos that I saw were stunning. I was hoping I could find the same sights to view with my own two eyes. Luxembourg is the world's second richest country, behind oil-rich Qatar. Luxembourg seemingly has a more down-to-earth approach to wealth. It's largely dependent on the banking, steel and industrial sectors and is a world away from the the mega-yachts and jet-setting celebs of its Riviera counterpart - Monoco. To get to Luxembourg City from London, I had to make a stop in Brussels, Belgium. I would have loved ... read more

Europe » United Kingdom » England » Greater London » London City September 13th 2013

I get off the train after traveling from Paris via the English Channel. I have never been to London before, and I had to get familiar with the transit system, as well as using the British Pound as currency. Neither of these should be too difficult. I make my way to my hostel. It is near the train station which is very good for me. I have three separate tours for my stay here which is scheduled for four days. I arrive in the evening time, so after I find my hostel, check in, and take my things to my room, I set out on foot. There is a landmark that I saw a few years back on the reality show "The Amazing Race" that I really wanted to see and do. It was the London ... read more

Europe » France » Île-de-France » Paris September 12th 2013

I am off on another European journey. My first stop is Paris. This city is easy to get in and out of, and quite frankly, it is a beautiful and wonderful city to visit. I love traveling here. This year however, I came to Paris to do one thing, and that was to visit the Catacombs. This was my main objective. I visited last year, and I was in line for the Catacombs, but the doors closed when I was about to go in. I made it my mission to return one day and visit. I arrive, and I have to find my hostel. I get off the plane, find the rail station, and make my way to my stop. This year I am staying at a new St. Christopher's hostel, and it is actually very ... read more

Europe » Switzerland » North-East » Zürich September 19th 2012

I travel by train to the beautiful city of Zurich. The train ride was breathtaking as far as the sights were concerned. I would look out my window and see the snow caps still on top of the mountains, and then the greenery in the valley's. This was probably my most favorite train ride in all of the years I have travelled thus far. When I arrive at the train station, it was raining very hard, so I put on my rain jacket, get my instructions to the hostel, and away I go. If I am not mistaken, this was the first time I have had to try to find my hostel during a pouring down rain. Not fun. Every time I would pull out my instructions, they would get more water soaked and harder to ... read more

Europe » Italy » Lombardy » Milan September 19th 2012

I arrive in Milan eager to achieve the agenda I have set forth for this city. I have a couple of very important things I wish to accomplish while here. I want to visit and view the painting of The Last Supper which was painted by Leonardo Da Vinci, and I want to tour the Duomo di Milano. I make my way from the train station to try to find the hostel that I have booked. As it always seems, I get a little crossed up with the directions, but after a fifteen minute or so walk (the directions say short walk - I suppose this is short), I find the hostel. Of course I was early, and after a pretty long wait to check in, I was told that I couldn't go to my room ... read more
