Europe » Italy » Lazio » Rome September 25th 2019

Ahhhh Rome. This was my third trip to this lovely city, and I was thrilled to be here. Originally, I was not going to come here this year, and fly out of another city, but if you ever have a chance to visit Rome, I suggest taking it, for it is worth your time I assure you. As my time was limited in Rome, I wanted to maximize every opportunity. Most of the things I did, I have done before, but again, it is such a joy to see and be in this wonderful place. This was more of a walk around time for me. Meaning, I didn't take any tours, but just enjoyed the vast historical and beautiful sights. After my initial arrival at the train station, I make my way to my hotel which ... read more

Europe » Italy » Tuscany » Pisa September 24th 2019

Pisa...I have been here once, but just couldn't resist coming back. Now, if you’re looking for a lot to do, this may not be your thing. Of course there is the tower, and some other beautiful structures. but for me, it was the experience of going to the top of the freaking Leaning Tower of Pisa! I arrived, and after a little time finding my hotel, I headed into the main area where most all the tourists attractions are. From the distance I could see the leaning tower of Pisa, and my excitement was all over me. I had booked a tour of the town of Pisa, and this took me in some of the buildings and structures with the last stop going yo the top of the tower. I went into…..and learned the history as ... read more

Europe » Italy » Liguria » Cinque Terre » Monterosso al Mare September 22nd 2019

I left Milan with all the excitement of going to Cinque Terre. I was here several years ago, and I have wanted to come back for so long. A little history... The Cinque Terre (meaning five lands) is a coastal area within Liguria, in the northwest of Italy. It is comprised of five villages: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. The coastline, the five villages, and the surrounding hillsides are all part of the Cinque Terre National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Access to Cinque Terre by car is limited. A road to Vernazza is very narrow and ends 1 kilometer (0.62 mi) before the town. Alternatively, you can drive to Bonassola, park your vehicle there, and take the local train two stops to Monterosso in the Cinque Terre. Trains run from La ... read more

Europe » Italy » Lombardy » Milan September 20th 2019

I was excited once again to be travelling, and the first leg of this years European trip was in Milan. I decided to go to Italy once more, as I really love the atmosphere, and well, the history. Milan is a good starting point for me, as I will be traveling south this trip. I arrive and get checked into the hotel. It was in a pretty nice part of town within minutes of the city center. After a little refresh, the first place I want to go is Duomo Cathedral. Seen it couple times before, however it really is a sight to see. Little history about the cathedral. The cathedral took nearly six centuries to complete: construction began in 1386, and the final details were completed in 1965. It is the largest church in Italy—the ... read more

South America » Peru » Cusco » Cusco September 15th 2018

Fresh off a trip to Machu Picchu, my travel companions and I decide to go out and explore Cusco. We were here briefly before we spent the day in Machu Picchu, but we really didn't get to take in the city and surrounding area. Now is our time. We make our way to Sacsayhuamán, a beautiful old site that looks like an archeological dig, and we walk around. We walk up and down these rock walls and just explore to the best of our abilities. The best known zone of Sacsayhuamán includes its great plaza and its adjacent three massive terrace walls. The stones used in the construction of these terraces are among the largest used in any building in pre-Hispanic America. They display a precision of cutting and fitting that is unmatched in the Americas. ... read more

South America » Peru » Cusco » Machu Picchu September 14th 2018

After a wonderful night in Lima, we make our way to Machu Picchu via Cusco. We had a good journey to Cusco looking at the Peruvian landscape, and after a decent ride, we make it to our destination. We three are excited to be here. One of us, not me, could speak the language which was very helpful. Our tour to Machu Picchu was the next morning, and we wanted to be fresh when we arrived. As we did in Lima, we walk around Cusco a bit just to get familiar, but we all decided we wanted to be rested up for the upcoming journey, which was realistically the reason for the trip. We have a good supper, head in, and after a good nights sleep, we get up and take a train to Machu Picchu ... read more

South America » Peru » Lima » Lima » Lima September 12th 2018

I was contacted by a friend of mine concerning travel to South America. I was a little hesitant, for I had already had a vacation this year, but then I thought about it, and I said why not. Saying that, now I was on a journey to this wonderous location which was quite unexpected. There were two others and me that decided to take this journey. I was so excited, and for our main reason for the travel, we were going to one of the worlds wonders, Machu Picchu. To get there we were going to fly into Lima, Peru, then take transportation to Cusco, and make our way to Machu Picchu. Now Lima is the capital and the largest city of Peru. It is located in the central coastal part of the country, overlooking the ... read more

Europe » Ireland » County Dublin » Dublin August 22nd 2018

I arrive back to Dublin from Belfast. As I was here already once before, and I got to look around, there was really only one more thing that I really wanted to do. I wanted to tour the Guinness factory, and to walk around in that area. With this day being my last, I wanted to make the most of it to the best of my ability. I settle into my hostel, and quickly make my way towards my destination. Not really sure how to get to the Guinness factory, I relied on a map to direct me. It was well within walking distance for me, as I am used to trudging several miles if need be. Weather permitting, this was my plan. Luckily it was not all that far. As I journeyed, all along the ... read more

Europe » United Kingdom » Northern Ireland » County Antrim » Belfast August 19th 2018

I arrive in Belfast from Dublin, and I am very eager and excited to be here. I am a huge Game of Thrones fan, and a lot of the filming is done in Belfast. I have slated two separate tours that I am so excited about. I also didn't want to miss out on going to the sight to where one of the most famous ships in history was built; The Titanic. With a pretty full schedule, I thought it best to go to tour the Titanic museum and site first thing. I normally use my feet to get around, and for this trip I continued to do so. It was a bit further than I thought, but never the less I make my way there. It was starting to rain, and I was thinking I ... read more

Europe » Ireland » County Dublin » Dublin August 18th 2018

I arrive in Dublin from an early morning flight from Lisbon. Although tired and weary from the journey, I was eager to set out and see what Dublin had to offer. I got to my hostel, which was decent for a three bed room, and I unpack to start my journey. I knew I was only here for one day, for I was going up to Belfast, but I had plans to come back here to finish off my vacation. My main objective was to just walk around the streets, and to see what jumped out at me. I make my way to O’Connell Street. This street is Dublin's main, as well as widest (but not longest) street, and as near to being the very center of Dublin as you can be. O’Connell Street and the ... read more
