Europe » Belgium » Brussels-Capital Region » Brussels September 15th 2011

I am once again going to take a trip of a lifetime. I have been very fortunate to be able to go to Europe now for five consecutive years. I can't explain how lucky I am, but I embellish each and every moment, for this one day will probably end. I fly into Brussels Belgium to start on this adventure. The plane ride was relatively smooth, and I met a nice young lady from BYU named Heather who was sitting beside me. She was meeting her friend from Washington DC, and then taking off on an adventure to Paris and Rome. When I departed the plane, it seemed like it took forever to go through passport control. Once through, I told Heather goodbye, and it was time to start my own adventure. I went to the ... read more

Europe » France » Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur » Nice September 25th 2010

I get back on the train from Cannes, and I realize that this is more likely than not my last train ride for this trip. I was a little exited, but also saddened because realizing this meant that my trip was almost over. From Cannes to my stop were eight stops, so I really tried to take in as much as I could during this train ride. The train ride was smooth, and before I knew it, I was back at my stop. I exit the train, cross the street, and make my way back to my hotel. I decide to walk on the beach one last time, so I make my way and in Nice, the beach is not made of sand, but it is small smooth stones. People still just put their blankets down ... read more

Europe » France » Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur » Cannes September 25th 2010

Cannes is famous for the film festival that is held there every May where the stars come out. I wanted to see where they go, and the red carpet areas that I have saw on the television. Just seventeen stops on the train and I would be there I thought. This sounds like a lot of stops, and it is, however at each stop, the train is only there at the stop for a few minutes, and it is off again. Once again as before my eyes were truly beholding beauty at it’s finest. The train ride exiting the Monaco/Monte Carlo area was simply put very beautiful. After about an hour and a half on the train, I arrive at the Cannes stop. I exit the train, and once again I wander where to go. I ... read more

Europe » Monaco » Monte Carlo September 25th 2010

I awake pretty early, and I make my way to the train station. Today would be my last full day in Europe, and I wanted to make the most of it. I arrived at the train station, and I was going to ask for directions. Unfortunately for me, the station had no attendant this early. I thought to myself, “What do I do now?” Lucky for me, there were two young guys at the station. I was hesitant at first to talk to them for they appeared to be like many young kids these days. Longer hair with baggy clothes, hat turned sideways, etc... One was riding his tripped out stunt looking bike. Anyway, I asked if they spoke English, and they did. I asked them how to get to Monte Carlo. They said they were ... read more

Europe » France » Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur » Nice September 24th 2010

I board the train with high expectations. I am ready for the beach. More precisely, the Mediterranean Sea. I have seen it on maps, read about it in social studies, and saw it in maps in my bible. I could not believe that I was going. I was excited. My first destination was a city named Adge. It was on the coast, and was an easier, shorter destination from Paris than my next destination. I boarded the train, and it was actually quite comfortable. I struck up a conversation with the guy sitting beside me, and he was an American that moved to Italy seven or eight years ago. He lived in a city called Nimes. I wanted to go there, but my time was very limited at this point. We discussed my destination, and he ... read more

Europe » France » Île-de-France » Paris September 21st 2010

I awoke from my overnight train ride, and it was sun shining outside. I was near Paris. About thirty minutes to an hour later, we were arriving to our destination. After un-boarding, I now had to find where to go. I felt a little lost at the moment, for I tried the information desk, but upon first try they were not much help to me. I decided to go the ticket counter and go ahead and secure my reservations for my departure train that would occur in a couple of days. When my turn came up at the counter, the person there was very kind, and she gave me a map and explained to me which metro train to take, and which stop to get off at. I was relieved. I went back to the information ... read more

Europe » Italy » Tuscany » Pisa September 20th 2010

Upon arrival in Pisa, I anxiously get off of the train. Now, by this time, I really had what I call saddle sores from my legs rubbing together. I did not pack any baby powder because I packed so light. My mistake which I will not make in the future. I suffered for the better part of a day in Rome. I went to a few stores there but they did not have any. Finally, I found a store at the Pisa train station that had baby powder. I purchased and made my way to a restroom. When I got to the restroom, a lady stopped me before entering and said I had to pay .60 Euros to use the facilities. I had heard of this, but this was my first experience on this trip. Of ... read more

Europe » Italy » Lazio » Rome September 18th 2010

This is my recap of my European vacation. I was about to embark on an amazing trip, and I hope the following summary will do the trip justice. My flight to Rome was a very pleasant flight. I met some interesting people on board. The lady who sat beside me (Carmin) was also travelling alone on the flight, and she was meeting a group going to the Alfami Coast. We struck up a conversation, and I told her my itinerary. She said that would probably be more fun, as I would get to see more sights. I told her I agreed, however that I was nervous because of the unknown situation concerning the trains, as well as a new couple of countries for me. I also was not 100% sure concerning the stay in the hostels ... read more

Europe » Germany » Bavaria » Munich August 19th 2007

This is my first trip to Germany alone. I had been a couple of times before, but now it is on me to find my way around. I was a little familiar with Stuttgart, so I decided to fly in here. Upon arrival, I was a little nervous, but I knew I had noone to count on but myself, so off I went to get my rental car and currency. I rented a small car, for I really did not think I would be travelling that much, and the gas would not be a large expense. I finally found the car in the lot, and when I got in and cranked it, I was really relieved. Now, off to my hotel. I found my hotel pretty easily, and once I checked in, I thought it was ... read more
