I arrive in Dublin from an early morning flight from Lisbon. Although tired and weary from the journey, I was eager to set out and see what Dublin had to offer. I got to my hostel, which was decent for a three bed room, and I unpack to start my journey. I knew I was only here for one day, for I was going up to Belfast, but I had plans to come back here to finish off my vacation. My main objective was to just walk around the streets, and to see what jumped out at me.
I make my way to O’Connell Street. This street is Dublin's main, as well as widest (but not longest) street, and as near to being the very center of Dublin as you can be. O’Connell Street and the surrounding areas are the main shopping destination, and from what I have researched, O'Connell Street is, without doubt, the most impressive street in Dublin. Though relatively short, it is reputed to be the widest urban street in Europe. Numerous monuments, historic buildings, and a lively atmosphere await travelers with what seemed something for everyone. It was quite crowded walking around, but most folks appeared
to be friendly and just going about their business.
The view of Dublin's skyline wouldn't seem complete without seeing the Custom House, one of Dublin's finest Georgian buildings. It is beautifully proportioned, with a long classical façade of graceful pavilions, arcades, columns; a central dome topped by a 16 foot statue of Commerce. I didn't actually tour, but walked by on a couple of occasions.
I make my way and walk along a river edge for a good piece just to see where it might take me. The river Liffey is a river in Ireland, which flows through the center of Dublin. The river supplies much of Dublin's water and a range of recreational activities. I saw boat cruises on very nice boats that looked like lots of fun, but I knew my time was a bit limited this journey. The river and the surroundings were beautiful none the less.
It seemed as if I walked for miles, however it probably was only maybe two. All along I see many old church's and places of interest that I might come back too on my return journey. I walked down many little streets or alleys, and there were
many patrons just like me browsing around. There were many shops I browsed and looked in, and I make my way to The Temple Bar. The is a famous bar in Dublin, and it was so crowded I could not get in. At this time, I just snapped some photos and selfies, and moved along. I knew this would be a place to come back too once I made my return.
I head back down to the rivers edge and then to my hostel. I had a flight to Belfast in the morning, and I wanted to get back, pack up, and to get myself some rest. I knew I would be back in a few days, and for now, I was thrilled to be here, and could not wait to return to further explore this wonderful city.
