and that's just what they do We spent our last days in the North Island driving many hours a day to make it to Wellington with a day to spare there, before getting the ferry back to the South Island. The last 2 nights we spent in windy, black sanded beaches: 1st at Turakinae Head, where a bunch of night fishermen spooked us big time and the 2nd at Sinclair Head where, according to the map, there was a seal colony so, after spending the day in Wellington, we parked the van and went for a walk in search of the seals: to find them you must walk on a pebble and sand track, fighting with the tail wind so you won't fly away and, when you get there... there are only 4 seals!!!, literally!!; I ... read more

After a few days sleeping in the van... well, we needed a shower and do some laundry, as I was quickly running out of knickers so we drove to Rotorua, where we enjoyed a night in a backpackers and a walk in one of the thermal parks... very hot and very smelly... The best: the colors of the water The worse: the smell!! P.D. Felicidades a mi prima ... read more

A few days ago, we stopped on a bay to spend the night, we locked the bikes to a tree and went for a walk; when we came back, there was another van next to ours and we thought we'll have company tonight; when I got there, this guy started talking in German to me, asking me if I was from Chemnitz, so I told him I'm not, but Dax is and, how the hell did they know??!!; well, they saw the bikes from the road and, because they are hand made by a man in Chemnitz, thay thought we got them from there and, not only there were from Chemnitz, but they have the same bikes!!!... in Auckland, as they wanted to cycle the country, but the gave up after a few days because the ... read more

Imagine I carry with me a giant pin everywhere I go and, since I'm in Christchurch, I'm going to try and cross the Earth with it...let's see, let's see...we're in Mondonhedo!!!...yes, Ladies and Gentlemen...we can't get any further: New Zealand is on the other side of the planet (Spanish perspective, of course!!) and, Christchurch on the other side of Mondonhedo, from there to Ferrol, a stone's throw so, family and friends, I feel you as far from me as ever and I'm craving as I never did before a cup of caldo galego...if you make a hole and put your head inside...maybe we can see each other... After 3 weeks spent in tropical islands, we landed in Christchurch to a deadly 3 degrees Celsius... "spring has just sprung" and nights and mornings are chilly... We spent ... read more

Kia Orana from Aranau 'Enua O Ru Ki Te Moana, meaning Ru in search of land over the sea but, to make things easier for those of us who don't speak maori, was changed to Aitutaki (a'i tutaki means to keep the fire going), being Ru the 1st settler of the island who, with his 4 wives, his 4 brothers and their wives, arrive here to decide to keep the island for himself and send his brothers away, and it's not surprising that he wanted the island just for him, because Aitutaki doesn't belong to this world: the moment you see the lagoon from the plane your jaw drops and it doesn't close back until you leave. It's just paradise, everything you imagine from a tropical island and more...pictures don't make justice and, even though I ... read more

In L.A. things are done in style and the rental company we got the car from had its Head Quarters in the Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills; even though we felt like a fish out of the water, we wondered how it will be to spend a night in a place like that and we decided to do it some day... guess what... we spent that very same evening, not at the Hilton, but at the Sheraton, courtesy of Air New Zealand: 2 king size beds, huge TV and room service made our last night in L.A. a bit more comfortable... So, with 7 hours delay, we finally left LA and headed, very excited, to the Cooks... I'm not sure why but Rarotonga has been a bit disappointing... actually, I DO know why: because I was ... read more

And here we are, safe and sound!!! After so much planning, dreaming, farewells, tears, smiles, exchanges of emails, presents, cars, planes, etc., we have finally arrived to our first destination: The City of Angels, where everything is made of plastic and filled with silicone: from food and drinks, to boobs and bums, everything looks as it has been taken out of a Barbie world... America: the Americans define it as the land of freedom and "the home of the brave" and I would change this last statement for "the land of the bold", after seeing how a lady took a furtive picture of Spiderman in Hollywood Boulevard, while he was making impossible postures on a lamp post, after what he got really angry and told her, while she was behaving like an ostrich, trying to hide ... read more

With the (black and) white cliffs of Dover (see panorama) we said goodbye to England once more wondering how many more times we'll say it before we really mean it!!, this time, from the ferry that will take us to France... I was sea-sick as soon as we stepped inside that damned nut shell rolling on the big waves, as big as they could be in a windless day, at least, 20 cmts!!!... I had to sit all the way and I chose the seats next to the toilet... just in case... fortunately, I didn't need them, but, judging from the number of ladies who went in and out of that toilet I think I wasn't the only sea-sick one!!!
