Barcelona is fantastic. That is fact. The first day that I was there, I went to Montserrat and saw one of Gaudi’s masterpieces in the mountains. I cannot describe it. So I wont. I cannot do it justice look for the pictures. I spent two hours on the wrong train and wasted two hours of the day go to the wrong place and returning. Crap. I then got on the righ one at got to Montserrat and took the cable car up to the mountain (way up the mountain. I met a couple from Chicago named Kris and Jay who were really nice and I probably hung around them too long and wasted a little time in the gift shop first. But I had to leave them and go get lunch, which was delicious and not ... read more

For now these pictures are not mine, I will go back through and add some from our group. Here was my week in a nutshell: Monday: Nothing happened. Went to class did work relaxed in Spain. Summary complete. On Tuesday, we took an excursion to La Granja and the Palacio Real. It is a huge palace that is based on the one in Versailles. The first part that we saw were the gardens, which are one of the last French-style gardens left. It wasn’t overgrown but it wasn’t perfectly kept up. That is intentional because a lot of places seem false or fake because of their perfect appearance. This place is like a perfect place that could be real as far as everyone who doesn’t know is concerned. At the far end of the gardens is ... read more

So this is what happened this weekend: On Friday we went to class a little early and went back to have lunch. Directly after lunch we went on our next excursion. The excursion this weekend was to Salamanca and Ávila. These are two cities that cannot be any more different. But I will get to that later. After the hour and a half bus ride we arrived inn Salamanca and enjoyed the best hotel that I have ever seen. It was a four star hotel that our professor booked and it was a success. The only problem was the weird showers, which had a pressure washer in them and a waterfall for a showerhead. Other than that it was a lot of fun. We pretty much put our stuff down and met up to walk out ... read more

I apologize for the lack of communication for the last few days. Here is what I have been up to: Mostly I have been really Spanish. I am embracing the culture. And by that I mean I have been lazy about everything. Love it here, but the people are so lazy about working in spite of being in “La Crisis.” Nothing major has been happening. I have been finding my rhythm for living here and its been nice getting used to the slower life. On Wednesday I tried Spanish churros, which are like plain funnel cake made in long strips. On their own they are not exciting. It is the thick chocolate dip served with them that make them worth getting. It is pretty much melted Hershey chocolate and completely fattening. Not that that is a ... read more

Well howdy. First off I want to apologize for butchering the Spanish language. I usually just butcher the English language. Most of the word that I have learned have been in speech and I give the spelling mixed up. Spanish is a phonetic language and it doesn’t matter how I spell things for the most part here, but I am talking to Americans who cannot write a paper without Autocorrect but decide that their mastery of English qualifies them to be grammar Nazis. Damn Facebook. Here is what I have been up to. On Sunday I slept in and did nothing really. In the evening I watched Terminator 3 and Police Academy in Spanish. I thought that Terminator was cool when he said “volverá” because I knew what he was talking about (it literally means She’ll ... read more

If one is tempted, do not take a Spanish class or a teacher with a Spanish accent at a time when you are tired. It lulls you right to sleep. This I found out around noon on Friday. My professor was talking and he asked me some things and I answered but as soon as he went on to the rest of the class I began wondering why my eyes were closed. Funny, I never stopped hearing his voice and I could have answered at any time. Apparently everyone else was falling asleep, too. Lunch was deliciousas usual. I am going to have to run for days to get the extra weight that I am going to have off, but I worry about that later. After my siesta I met up with some of my friends ... read more

What has happened in the last couple of days? Hmm. Lets see. Wednesday was uneventful. I found myself wanting to go to sleep more than I did. The day just kind of slipped away with homework. I wish I knew Spanish so that my homework would go faster. But the language is actually not that bad. I have enjoyed the work classes and my host family’s words are becoming easier and easier to interpret. Al in all nothing much happened on Wednesday so on to Thursday. I also decided to keep it calm and spend very little time on homework. I found some postcards that will probably get back to NC after me. I also found some shops for good souvenirs and gifts. I like to say that because I am not getting most of you ... read more

Hola! Just to warn everybody. I write these things in chunks during the day so hopefully it makes sense. It may also mean that I forget things so my apologies. Today started off much better. I got up and I could not understand what was going on for 5 minutes but my Spanish came back eventually. I think that I can understand a little more today than yesterday. I do not know if that will continue. Breakfast was simple, I had some crackers and hot chocolate and then did my homework before class. Class started at 10:am and on my way out to go I learned why people do not wear shorts here. The temperature was in the upper 50’s and lower 60’s. It makes sense because this is the mountains. It has definitely been an interesting day thus far. It started at 5:30 in Raleigh and realizing how tired this past semester has made me. So tired in fact that I did not realize that my flight left at 10:40 am instead of 8:30 am like I thought. Well, it was disappointing when I had to wait around for 2 hours after getting up so early. One piece of good fortune almost fell in my lap after I went to the gate. The attendant at the desk asked for a volunteer to take a flight that was an hour later than mine to New York so that someone that bought the ticket at the last minute could have a seat. In return they were offering a $300 flight voucher for another plane ticket in the future. ... read more

I have two days until I leave for Spain. I have packed my bags and I am now waiting for the day to leave. I really want to get over there and enjoy the country. I look forward to seeing a new country. I am going to keep a better record of what I am doing this time around, so do not worry. I have skype there I am pretty sure. Other than that, make sure that you subscribe to the page and get the latest on my travels. I have no clue how often I will blog, but it will not be enough to get in the way of my fun. I guess the first blog is going to be in Spain. Its going to be fun. Until next time,... read more
