Today we did most of the Historical Walking Tour which is in the Central Part of Guam. It was very hot so may finish up at a later date. We did most of it starting with Santos Memorial Park/Latte Stone Park. Eight giant carved limestone formations, known as latte by Chamorros, were moved here. Chamorros built their houses on these stone pillars. The pillars are two-piece construction; the supporting column was topped with a capstone. The supporting column was made from coral limestone and The capstone was made from natural hemispheric-shaped coral heads laboriously collected from the reefs. The Japanese excavated caves are also located on the site, but visitors are warned to stay out of these World War II sites. Next up was the Dulce Nombre de Maria Cathedral-Basilica dating to the 17th century. Built ... read more

Halloween and Move A little late on the Halloween posting, but things have been busy. We found a condo to rent and had to make the rounds of getting power, water, cable, etc. hooked up. It took a few days to get the phone working. Had to shop for staples and a few other things. It is amazing all the little things you need. We have borrowed a lot too. In the interest of keeping things simple, we are essentially “condo-camping”. Halloween was fun. Chris and Stacey’s church does what they call “Trunk and Treat”. The adults park their cars/trucks/vans in the parking lot, decorate them with different themes, dress up themselves and then the kids can “Trick (Trunk) or Treat” through the lot. A dinner is provided for all those doing the “trunking” afterwards. It ... read more

Thursday, October 21, 2010 Well, we finally arrived in Guam. We left home on October 19, 2010 at 3:00 a.m. Chicago time. Three airplanes and 24 hours later we touched down in Guam Oct 20 at 3:00 a.m. Chicago time (6:00 p.m., Oct. 20 Guam time). So, we lost a day getting here but will gain it back on the trip home. Anyway, we stepped out of the Guam International Airport into very hot, very humid weather. And this will not change while we are here. We will be doing some educational sightseeing for the blog and hope you enjoy it. Cute as they are, no one wants a steady diet of our grandchildren and their antics—cute as they may be. Although, we hope you will enjoy what we do post. We will be getting acclimated ... read more

July 23, 2010 We left Ashton, Idaho this morning at 8:00 am and entered Yellowstone at the West Gate at 10:00 a.m. We did Old Faithful and the other boiling points first. I especially liked the hot springs. They are so beautiful. Wanted to see how hot they were, but they don’t let you close enough. The different shades of blue are beautiful and I’m sure the pictures can’t capture the real colors. We thought a couple of the holes looked more like septic tanks, but I think they are some that may be dying or drying up. We then drove through some beautiful scenery on the way to the Canyon and Falls but when we reached the section where most of the Bison reside traffic backed up for miles and miles. We were told that ... read more

July 22, 2010 Last night we stayed in Wells, Nevada. We left at around 8:00 a.m. for Idaho and Wyoming. We had to do a little RV cleaning before we left. Nevada made everything gritty and dusty. Jackpot, Nevada is the last town before entering Idaho. There is nothing I could see in Jackpot except motels, hotels, RV Parks, and casinos. Entered Idaho at 9:15 am. Went through Twin Falls, Idaho, took pictures of the Snake River Gorge and, at last, some green farm fields and TREES. Went through Pocatello to Idaho Falls and into Ashton where we camped for the night. Beautiful campground, view of the Tetons. See you in Yellowstone. The RV Resort we stayed at was in a large grove of trees in the middle of a golf course in the middle of ... read more

July 21, 2010 We left California this morning at 8:30 and crossed over into Nevada at 8:47 a.m. The first thing over the line was a Casino, of course. Went through Carson Valley which was very pretty and through Reno where we picked up I-80. I-80 basically follows the old California Trail. From 1849 to 1869 the pioneers braved the trail for 2000 miles. It is estimated that 250,000 people crossed to California. I would venture to say the almost that many must be buried out there somewhere. It is a lotta nothin. The dust and the heat would have made me turn back. No way would I have made it as a pioneer woman. I have never seen so many miles and miles of nothing. Not a tree in sight the whole way. And I'm ... read more
