Some of the guys went to the zoo just outside Flores this morning, Aimee, Amy, Heather and I had a lazy morning, late breakfast (tried somewhere new, not good - should have stuck with the pancake place!!) and are just waiting for Michael and Carol to turn up and then we have a long trip to Rio Dulce. Hot springs here we come! Aimee is doing the 2nd half of the trip with GAP which will be good. Nice not having to split up... read more

Went for a late breakfast where we´d had lunch the day before and had pancakes with Amy and Heather. Was still good. Got asked for my number when I paid, was rather confused as when I´d used my card the day before there, they hadn´t asked me for this info. Much to the amusement of the others... Got picked up at 10.30 and went off to Tikal. Took 90 mins to get there, had a quick lunch before walking 5 miles around the site. It was amazing, really impressive. Lots of stairs... Lots of wildlife, saw a spider monkey, toucan and a lot of birds that I have no idea what they were!! Will get the photos of off Claudia!!! It was actually quite quiet there. We stayed till 6 and then had to try and ... read more

Left Trek stop at 12, was good to get out of there and headed towards Flores in Guatemala. The roads here are entertaining, you drive on the wrong side to avoid potholes at cars coming straight at you... Getting over the border was reasonably painless and am preferring the landscape in Guatemala. More green, cleaner and hillier. Got to Flores around 3 and went for a late lunch. Had a lovely meal (good food and quick - all good). Wandered around Flores for a bit before coming back to get ready to go out for drinks. Found a cheap bar, with a rather interesting loo, you have to poor water down it to flush it and then use another barrel to pour water in the sink to wash your hands. But the music was ok, and ... read more

Leaving Caye Caulker on the 25th was somewhat entertaining. Sam, Michael´s friend had had somewhat a liquid lunch and couldn´t even walk, always good when you have to get on a boat. Think Michael was really embarrassed and came up with some excuse that she was really home sick, where in fairness he should have just said that she was trollied and would apolagise later!! There was only one breast feeding woman on the ferry this time, and the crossing seemed quicker. Sam woke up the baby and it screamed at her the entire crossing, didn´t stop her trying to hold it and play with it... Vicky dived over to our side of the boat to escape the screaming. Thankfully we had private transport to San Ignacio. We avoided the vomit comet and where doing a ... read more

What a place to spend it, waking up on a paradise Island, with nothing planned till the afternoon! Awesome! Had the banana cake from cake man for breakfast, wandered around the island to try and find a t-shirt but as it was Xmas day toucan was closed :-( (oops!) Spent the day swinging on a hammock reading my book after a mojito in the cafe with Amy, Heather, Louis, Lara, Chester, Vicky and Carol. It had been very chilled and allowed me to get on the internet thanks to the tour guide leaving his mac in the hotel lobby so we could all have access to the internet!! Cheaply for once :-) Getting the water taxi in a bit and starting the 4 hour trip to San Ignacio, where hopefully I will go caving. Can't wait!! ... read more

The diving trip was fully booked so went snorkeling with everyone else on the trip. Met up at Raggamuffin Tours after having a wander around the island (take 20 mins if that to walk from one end to the other but is lovely, tropical paradise). Took my own snorkel stuff. There where 3 stops, Coral garden, Shark and ray alley and then Hol Chan Marine Park. Got fruit, lunch, water and rum on the tour. The snorkeling was great, stroked a ray (thankfully no incidents here..), saw a shark, spotted eagle ray, eel and a turtle. Saw some divers and in fairness they didn't have too much of an advantage diving. We could free dive and saw plenty from the top. Sadly a few people felt a little sick but all in all it was a ... read more

Up early as a long travel day to Caye Caulker. Walked up to the bus station for the 5/6 hour ride to Chetumal, got a chicken bus over the border for 3/4 hours and then a water taxi to the Island. The chicken bus was entertaining, everyone for themselves! No issues at the border crossing over. For the last hour there was a screaming baby behind us that was deafening. The directly opposite me on the water taxi there were 2 mothers breast feeding and no where really to look! Eventually got to the Ocean Pearl Hotel, we were all knackered after the long day but got ready and went off to the Jolly Rodgers to put our orders in and went to Femes for a drink whilst we waited for our dinner to be BBQed. ... read more

Didn't make it to the breakfast place that was recommended by Michael, but Heather and Amy said it was good! We were taking to long in the room!! Met up with Chester, Vicky, Claudian, Ian, Viv, Heather and Amy in the lobby and Michael walked us down to the taxi rank so we could go to Tulum. Took about an hour from Playa del Carmen and got dropped off by the ruins. They were impressive due to the location of them being by the cliff face, not really the state they were in. Took lots of photos, like the easy mode on the camera!! :-) Wandered around looking at the castle, the houses and then walked down the cliff face face to the beach to call off. The same taxi driver who dropped us off picked ... read more

Happy Birthday mum!!! As we'd already got breakfast we went to join the group with just drinks! Did the typical my name is, I'm from, I do, why I'm here introductions and the Michael talked (and talked!) about the trip. He has a friend joining the trip as he was meant to be traveling with her and not doing this tour so he asked if we minded her joining us. In fairness I don't really but is annoying that the tour guide could increase the group size but Aims wasn't allowed on the 2nd half of the tour. Do wonder if she has to pay local payment.... Walked to the bus station, thankfully close and caught the bus to Playa del Carmen. It was only an hour to get there. Got taxis to the hotel which ... read more

Slept through breakfast sadly thanks to the lovely room mates we had that got in a god knows what time... and three of them not 2... Went out and got croissants that were good. The guy at reception pointed out that there was a Walmart (!) nearby so Aims and I wandered to that to try and get some memory sticks. Sadly no joy. They only had the adaptors that got stuck in the camera... So bought a new camera - no point being here with no photos! After we packed up, said out goodbyes to the guys we'd met at the hostel, including one girl from Chelsford that was doing the GAP tour the week after us! Got a taxi to the meeting hostel as not to get lost with heavy bags! The hotel was ... read more
