Geo: 48.8566, 2.35097Monday, June 2, 2008:Another big day today. We got up between 6:30 and 7, left the apt. ~8:35 we got ourselves to the Louvre at about 9:15. The first thing we saw was the Winged Victory of Samothrace! Very cool! can I say this about something that was made around 800 BC? this was the biggie I had wanted to see, anyway... on to the Mona Lisa, very "nice" of course, we were fortunate to be there without the room being packed as I saw it was later. Not sure anyone could see it later in the day...Next up was the Venus de Milo. All three had lots of fans taking pictures! A bit of overload here, it's so immense you really don't know where to begin or which direction to start heading off ... read more

Geo: 48.8566, 2.35097Sunday, June 1:Well, we slept in today till 8! yahoo! really slow morning, got out of the apt. ~11:30ish. Our first stop was the Fat Tire place so Dad could have them check out his camera and download his pictures to a CD. This took a while then we walked to the Duplieux Metro station and caught the RER A to St. Germain en Laye, saw the castle that was used by the Kings of France till Louis the 14th had Versailles fixed up when he became an adult. This was an anthropological museum, no tour of the castle.... we could obviously see some of it and of course got to walk up lots of stairs as was our habit :-).. also got to see a real moat that was outside and a beautiful ... read more

Geo: 48.8566, 2.35097Before I continue about the rest of the week, I'll give you a run down on the "steps" we took. Mom was wearing a pedometer and told us how many steps we took for the day. I'll let you know when I did more than the official count :-)... So to catch up on that part we took 20,315 steps on Thursday with both of those walking tours...On to Saturday and our trip out to Versailles, this was May 31. We were up at 6 am and off to the Pont de l'Alma metro station to catch the RER C (VICK) to Versailles. I had been a bit anxious about this as I had read to MAKE sure we got on the right train that said, Vick... I didn't know what that meant... but ... read more

Geo: 48.8566, 2.35097Well, we've been so busy that I haven't been able to get to a computer for 4 days! I'm going through withdrawals! my Echo pals know what I mean :).I'll have to catch up on our itinerary when I get home as we are leaving tomorrow, we went to Normandy yesterday and I know I have a whole new appreciation for what our Greatest Generation did for us in WW2, amazing!!! definitely had some tears at Omaha Beach and the American Cemetery. I came away thinking that every American should make that visit. Freedom was definitely not free....Today we walked the Marais, it's the Jewish and "gay" quarter. Had a falafel at the famous L'as du Fallafel, then on to the Il de St. Louis for gelato at Amorinos, yummy!! Visited Victor Hugo's home ... read more

Geo: 48.8566, 2.35097Thanks to everyone that has posted a comment! It's so fun to hear from you while I'm over here. Well, the brain cells are working a bit better today, I was hardly functioning during the last post...I know what some of you are thinking, just stop.... :) So yesterday we took two free tours from --------, the first started in the Latin quarter at Place St. Michel, we met at a great fountain of Michael the archangel, throwing Satan from Heaven. We then went on with a group of about 30 and walked over and past the following with commentary from our tour guide: Pont Neuf! (oldest bridge in Paris walked over and under, some very strange smells under!), Pont des Arts, Louvre courtyard!!, Palais Royal / Comedie Francaise, Jardin du Palais Royale, stopped ... read more

Geo: 48.8566, 2.35097We are here and took a little nap after taking a taxi to the apartment. We also found Fat Tire Bike Tours office and am obviously on the internet! After our nap, we found a grocery store maybe 50 feet from our apt. got a few things for the fridge, have realized we forgot a few more things so will be stopping at a Boulangerie ? for some yummy French bread! Made our way to La Tour Eiffel, BIG! some long lines waiting to get up, not too surprising the line to walk up the stairs was very short.... that's the one I'm voting for, we'll see.... anyway I won't be on here too long as I'm feeling pretty loopy it's 5:07 pm which is 9 hours ahead of Washington so I've been up ... read more

Geo: 46.2741, -119.274Just trying to practice with this blog, remembering how to sign in, edit, etc... My weekend so far (weekend of May 24th, 2008): Yesterday packed my bag, 25 lbs! must be a record for me. Still don't have everything in it yet... really have to figure out how to deal with a raincoat that won't fit in my little bag! I guess I will be wearing a lot of clothes on the plane! :-) Got a little carryon bag that converts to a backpack and has a little daypack zipped on the front. The 25 lbs felt like 100 when I tried it on! Guess I'll be exercising also... anyway, the computer crashed yesterday to top off my last 3 days at home(fantastic neighbor saved the day!) and the house is a mess and ... read more

Geo: 46.2741, -119.274It's 12 days and counting, Lots of last minute details to wrap up such as getting this TravelPod up and running. Looking forward to being able to use an American keyboard in Paris this year compared to the European one in Italy last year! It took a few Euros trying to figure that out! I'm planning on using the ones at Fat Tire Bike Tours in Paris, they are owned by Americans I believe and you can use their facilities to get on the internet, so hopefully all will go well with posting this trip. If not I'll do the best I can!... read more

Geo: 38.4543, -76.6907Hello again,As I was rereading my last entry I think it may have Louis Vuitton that had the line and not Yves St. Laurent.... sorry, just trying to be accurate. Kind of hard to be with a fuzzy brain about these sorts of things....On Monday, June 4th we:Bought our train tickets for our journey on Wednesday to Venice. Found Largo Argentina, the spot where Julius Caesar was murdered. Amazing to see the actual spot! It is fenced off and you look down into a large square with the remnants of temples and the temporary meeting place for the Senate at that time. There are busy modern streets surrounding it and the spot is actually a cat sanctuary for stray cats! Volunteers staff it and take care of them and feed them, they take donations...On ... read more

Geo: 46.2741, -119.274Back again! Thought I'd fill in the gaps and then finish out the trip. So sorry about all the misspellings and wrong grammar! I was paying by the minute and had to be fast, that with the different keyboard really had me! are those excuses good enough?? :) May 31:Mauro, our apt. manager met us at the airport when we arrived. A little apprehensive/ curious about the upcoming ride into Roma, as we had heard about the driving.... He drove 120 km and a little faster. I guess that's 80 and above... people were passing us.... no turn-signaling to change lanes by anyone, motorcycles just drive inbetween the cars, not in their own lanes.....Found Piazza Navona, went into some churches there, walked into the Pantheon, WOW! very impressive, Campo Di'Fiore...June1:Took a bus to the ... read more
