Bratislava has been a whistle stop tour, with me leaving tomorrow for Budapest, however I'm so glad I got to see it. It's been a really fun afternoon of mixed weather, historic sites, cobbled streets, a lesson in Pharmacy, a protest against Islamic Rights on National Refugee Day and an Alien invasion in the form of a UFO. Let me explain. The historic 'Old Town' is where I'm based and again, I have lucked out on the accommodation. I am doing AirBnB and my room is really lovely and looks out onto the Blue Church. It therefore made perfect sense after a freshen up (it was needed after PT (public transport) for 4 hours) that I took to the streets again. That sounds so wrong, but you know what I mean. :) It is everything an ... read more

Europe » Austria » Vienna June 19th 2015

Ahhhhh Vienna, the title of this blog for ar least 3 reasons. Ahhhhh because of the beautiful cityscape it has offered with its wonderful array of architecture. Ahhhhh because I finally managed to indulge myself on really fantastic cuisine all be it mainly Italian. Yes I know I'm in Austria but this is a country who just loves the gluten so nothing traditional for me to eat here, I'm afraid. The final Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh is for my behind after taking in a 3 hour cycle tour of the city. Although fantastic to see the many sights from the perspective of 2 wheels. I definitely prefer the 4 kind variety or my own two legs!!! :) This time I was staying in a hotel very close to the centre of Vienna and all the attractions, the Hotel Graf ... read more

Europe » Sweden » Stockholm County » Stockholm June 16th 2015

I got on the bus at the Airport to get into Stockholm and was truely amazed by the lack of people. There was me and this one guy from Australia on there. We both questioned where is everybody? From my own stay here, I think I know why...its not because its not a fantastic place to visit, its just expensive although cheaper than Norway apparently! From the moment I stepped off the bus at Central Station Stockholm, I was in awe because at every angle there was something that deserved to be photographed. My accommodation has been pretty special staying just moments away from the very impressive City Hall (building with 3 crowns on top, see pics). It has been an amazing place to visit and I would love to return, but only after winning the ... read more

Europe » Denmark » Region Hovedstaden » Copenhagen June 13th 2015

As I sit, looking at the lake in front of me whilst drinking a bottle of beer sat on a park bench just doing what the locals do, I know I am definitely not in the UK as no-one has thrown me a look of disgust. Copenhagen has been a wonderful place to visit filled with charm and surprise. I arrived on Thursday where it was slightly overcast and given I was jet lagged, what with the 55 minute flight and no change to the time zone I decided to take it easy. My hosts have been particularly helpful in aiding my true Copenhagen experience. Within hours of arrival I found myself in the Norrebro district visiting Assistens Cemetery. Although this sounds quite macarbe, it was a really beautiful place and doubles as a park where ... read more

Europe » Netherlands » North Holland » Amsterdam June 9th 2015

I've had a great time in Amsterdam and luckily survived unscathered from any injuries caused by Cyclists. It took me a little while, but once I realised I was walking in the designated cycle lanes and that there weren't widened pavements, things improved dramatically. The thing that tickled me the most and will never forget is what I spotted when I took a Canal cruise - The multi storey Bike park for the thousands used on a daily basis. Imagine if you couldn't remember where you parked up!!! :). Since arriving I have simply taken to me feet and walked the canals to death. Its been really lovely wandering through the different streets and bridges from the main tourist areas to the more remote outskirts. I have seen some sights and I'm not not talking about ... read more

At last the bag is packed and I'm ready to go. My hair has been cut but the curl still continues to rule. Thank God for hats. I have enough medication to rival Boots for any emergency. Waterproof garments to give the monsoon a run for its money and most importantly disposable toilet seat covers. A very unusual and practical gift I recieved from a concerned well wisher or someone ripping the piss! ;) Not too sure which one they are, but grateful none the less. Those paired with my pegless line, universal bath plug and welsh flag, I believe I have everything I could ever need. Even better, today I was given a companion to travel with. " Always There Teddy Bear" known as A.T, who's a beautiful handmade gift from my Mam who has ... read more

Today has been tremendous meeting those friends that have been part of my life for at least the last 25 years. They all say the same thing. " I cant believe your going and your not going to be here." Its really heartfelt hearing such messages and right now, I'm not sure it still feels real to me that I leave on Monday! What's also been great about today is I have concentrated on what really is needed and what is a nice to have and the fact I have had some further amazing gifts that you will see along the way. Its making what gets into the case even tougher!!!! Tomorrow I will sort that out, once and for all. I've also managed to be productive with me finalising my Will. Please dont gasp, as ... read more

Well I have always hated packing and given the added pressure of no more than 15kg for a trip of a lifetime it's proving a tough task. It's taken me all day to complete my packing and as of yet I have still failed to reach my target. I need to shed a further 4kg in the next 3 days. This sounds very similar to my own weight loss challenges, where I get there eventually but after a lot of huffing and puffing. More packing tomorrow then.... Its been further complicated this evening with a surprise early Birthday celebration laced with fundamental gifts consisting of disposable toilet seat covers and Vasaline!! I am not sure right now my parents fully understood when I said this was a trip for me to discover myself! or to that ... read more

Well its been a busy one today, with finshing off my CV for the dreaded "work section" of my trip and updating my Linked In profile, to sorting out some currency for each of the destinations, to an hour session with my IT hero on downloading, communicating and file management. All in all I think its time for a large Port or 3 before embarking on the ultimate packing conundrum tomorrow.... read more
