So apparently 'Winter' was here, rather than coming (excuse the 'Game of Thrones' reference, I am now hooked and all caught up!?). Along with 'Birthday' season for Ceri, Heidi, Me Tracy and Jade. Ceri started the ball rolling, with her special day being the 10th June when we went to the Hippopotamus Restaurant and Bar located in the Museum Hotel, to celebrate. It's a rather oppulent venue, with great views of the water and renowned for its Art. I'd had a drink in there previously, with Nicole when we'd caught up over Easter. This time, it was for a, 'Hip High Tea', that afternoon which included a cocktail and a GF option. Whoooo Hooo! ?Executive Chef, Laurent Loudeac had lovingly created a beautifully presented, selection of sweet and savoury morsels for us to scoff which was ... read more

My life in NZ continued and I was really loving my job. Five weeks in, I finally felt I had the cold counter offerings nailed, with only a cut finger and a burn to each arm. Oh well, you can't make an omelette without cracking a few eggs, as they say?! Maggie had upped my hours slightly, so I was now there five days a week working between 22 and 24 hours in total. I still needed a few more hours so continued my search for another part time role. I was learning so much at 'Peckish' and thoroughly enjoying it, I didn't want to give it up, if I could help it. My social calendar was still busy, but now I was working and in kind of a routine, I felt I had more time ... read more

It was the last week in February, and I'd come to a decision that I needed to tell my new housemates that, it looked like, I would be moved out by Easter. No opportunities on the work front had arisen and I needed to focus on an exit plan. In fairness, they were all offering to help and sending me information about any job advertised, from different places they came across. On one of the days, I received a message through about a shop girl needed in the $2 shop located just round the corner from where I live. I grabbed my CV and went round. The lady in the shop was very nice and said they would let me know the following day. I'm not sure why I decided to continue up the street and ... read more

My quest now was to find work. My social life had unexpectedly gone through the roof, after only being in Wellington a fortnight. I had even met another girl called 'Ceri' from Wales who was over here on the same Visa as I was and who had been living in Cardiff. This I was also using as a networking tool, but really I needed to concentrate on applying for all sorts of roles, tailoring my cover letters to suit. I found an opportunity as a Medical Laboratory Assistant - Specimen Reception post. Well here's hoping with both Lab and Office experience, I thought. Many roles had close out dates that weren't imminent so I knew this could be a waiting game. I kept in touch with Jade who was also looking for work in Auckland and ... read more

I said my final farewell to Jade and 'the girls' before heading to the 'Nomad Backpackers' located in Auckland CBD. This is where I would meet my new tour group before spending the night. Tomorrow we would leave to start our trip and I couldn't wait. It felt like ages since I'd been on tour. This time though, I already knew how, the Tour Leader 'Duffman', liked to role from my previous escapades in Oz. It was around lunchtime when I turned up to check in, but not being a Hotel, I was too early, so left my bag and used the kitchen facilities to warm through some curry, I'd brought with me. Whilst at the 'Sun Roof Terrace' (as it was labelled) eating my lunch, (don't be fooled by that name, it is a hostel ... read more

It was really happening. Full of excitement and trepidation, I boarded the plane to Auckland. My home country for the next.....365 days!!! All of a sudden, it struck me, that I was really doing this. My mind shifting from chilled holiday mode to 'What am I going to do?', 'Where am I going to live?', 'Will I get work?', 'What have I done?', 'Will I be stopped by Customs?'. Expecting the worst and getting the best, I glided through Customs and was out the other end in no time, with no questions asked! I got the Airport Shuttle Bus into Auckland CBD and checked into the Hostel that came as part of my BUNAC Visa package for 2 nights. It was as expected! Awful and definitely not where I wanted to be. To aid my despair, ... read more

It was a typical day in Melbourne the morning of my flight, what with sun, wind and rain. It really had been a mixed bag, but I'd had a fantastic time. The remainder of my time in Australia would be spent in the state of Queensland, more specifically Brisbane. This time I'm glad to say, I was firing on all cylinders with no issues at the Airport and my flight landing 10 minutes early. I even got a fantastic view of the Gold Coast whilst on my way. I stepped off the plane and there it was, the heat. If felt amazing and I was instantly recharged to take on this new City. I'd booked to stay in a little place located just outside the CBD in the suburb of Spring Hill. I dropped my stuff ... read more

It was a leisurely 6am start (compared with my recent trip) with a good brekkie before my bus turned up to take me to the airport. Low and behold the driver's family was originally from Port Talbot and Neath area. Sometimes it's such a small World. ? It was a short journey to the Airport and I was all set for another flight. The Check-In desk hadn't opened when I arrived but there was already a small queue, which I joined. Looking forward to my next adventure and reminiscing on my recent ones, I was soon at the desk. Then came the question "Do you have any lighters or matches in your case?" and it suddenly dawned on me, I did!! In my 'Emergency Tin' of all places. I left Perth early on Saturday morning. I was ready to see another aspect of this huge country. Perth Domestic Terminal was small and very quiet or so I thought. When I commented to a lady who was serving me my cuppa, she remarked it was busy for a Saturday. It was just another nuance of W.A. I used Virgin Australia for my flight and they were nothing but efficient. I had another row of seats to myself on the three and a bit hour flight, arriving in Darwin around 5pm in the evening. As it was a domestic flight, we were that much lower in the sky so I had a fantastic view of the changing landscape beneath. Migrating into the Northern Territory, had included an unusual time change of +1.5 hrs on Perth, so ... read more

Western Australia Adventure Tour - 27th - 15th October 2015 To my surprise there was only 4 of us booked on this tour, all of which were women with "Duffman" our tour guide. Poor bugger! He would have nerves of steel by the time we'd finished. In our introduction meeting we discovered more about one another. Bettie was from Illinois, Krizs was from Hungary originally, now living in Sydney and Sue was from the North East of England now living in Melbourne. We were all ages so this would make for an interesting trip with very different backgrounds with a very laid back Ozzie leader who was eager to please. We grabbed some dinner nearby and a few glasses of wine before heading to bed for a nice early start the following day with the drive ... read more
