Hi All! I hope this post finds you enjoying your Friday! We are currently in La Riocha waiting for a bus. I've had a chance to write a few posts and instead of filling your inbox with many messages, this will be the only one. Be sure to scroll down to see the other posts. More pictures will come when I find an internet cafe that lets me upload them. Buenos Dias! ... read more

There is no direct bus from Mendoza to San Augustine de Valle Fertil so connected in San Juan. San Juan was a pleasant stop over and gave us a taste of a smaller Argentinean city. We are starting to look more and more like foreigners as we go north. In the main square, a guy asked to take a picture of our blue eyes. It actually came out really nice! Right after that, a group of school children rushed us handing us little pins with Argentina's colors on it in honor of their independence day (25 de Mayo). From San Juan we continued north to Valle Fertil. This is small town of 5000 people. There are two main excursions from the city, we did the one to Valle de la Luna in the Parque Provincial Ischigualasto. ... read more

Our journey continues West from Buenos Aires to the city of Mendoza. We traveled there overnight like Kings and Queens of old in the royal suite class. Better than first class on a plane! The bus seats recline fully, hot and cold meals are served and blankets are provided. Be warned, the bus gets very cold so bring an extra layer or two. ($228 (pesos)) The other two classes are cama and coche cama. Cama is similar to what we have in North America with greyhound. No services, no legroom and very little reclining. Coche cama is a step up with more leg room and the possibility of reclining almost 3/4 of the way. Upon our arrival in Mendoza we walked through the center of the city. The downtown center has five plazas with Plaza Independencia ... read more

Buenos Aires would not have been as amazing if it weren't for the people I met and shared my experiences with. This is a big thank you to them for rocking!! People not in pictures: Elena, Allen, Mauro... read more

All the dinner spots we've been to have been amazing (almost)! I highly recommend each of the ones bellow to fellow travelers and locals alike. There are not many cities that rival Montreal cuisine but Buenos Aires surpasses it! The best string of meals I've ever had. Asian: (Palermo, Av. Córdoba 5288, www.asiankosher.com) Without a doubt the best kosher restaurant I´ve ever eaten at. Our waiter, Mike spoke English and was very honest about which dishes we should order. Everything was delicious! Gali and I shared duck filled dumplings and fried gizzard as appetizers and then a HUGE rib steak. We shared the eye and then I went to work on the bone. At that point, it is a good thing there was only one other table because I was really going at it. When I ... read more

Day 4: Today we explored Centro. This is the downtown, business district of Buenos Aires. It was hustling and bustling with thousands upon thousands of people all crammed on the sidewalks. The most interesting part for me were the huge boulevards that span the city. Stretching from Plaza de Mayo is Avenida 9 de Julio which passes through Plaza de la Republica. The boulevards were introduced by Juan de Garay who was pivotal in founding the city of Buenos Aires and other Argentinean cities. He was influenced by the great French boulevards. Plaza de Mayo at one end of the avenue is considered the focal point of political life in Argentina by many people. The resolution passed giving Argentina independence was done here on May 25, 1810. Today, it is the host of many demonstrations. While ... read more

Day 2: RAIN! We didn´t do much today. Covered the Museo National de Bells Artes (Fine Arts Museum). It was ok. Continued to the mall by taxi. The driver tried to rip us off but we were smarter!! Good guys 1 - Bad guys 0. We explored the mall for a better jacket for Gali. We all underestimated how frio (cold) it would be this time of year. The highlight of this mall was definitely the kosher McDonalds. Headed back to the hostel and then grabbed some dinner. Day 3: Today was our first nice day and we took full advantage! We ventured out from our hostel and headed to the botanical garden - there were trees and plants from around the world but this garden was more like feline central. I tried to count the ... read more

Another adventure has begun and all I have to say is WOOHOO!!!!! This past scholastic year was tough and draining with many hours in the library but its over and I´ve moved on to summer! Or so I hoped...but as I walk along the leaf covered streets of Buenos Aires the trees think otherwise and the cold breeze concurs. But enough small talk about the weather. Gali and I left Montreal on Sunday en route to Toronto where we met Dani. Then we all flew to Buenos Aires on an uneventful flight (except for the movie system which crashed in the middle). The flight did include 3 free meals. Can you beleive that? (As a side note, I´m happy to say we are all healthy and swine/h1n1 free) A smooth landing, brief swine flew check, and ... read more

The last weekend of January 2008 was spent at Mont Saint Anne for MISN's yearly ski trip. For all those who are unfamiliar with MISN, it stands for McGill International Student Network. Ski conditions were great, we even managed to find some powder. After a long drive on Friday, with a long stop at the IGA for supplies, we arrived in Mont Sainte Anne. We dropped off our luggage in the rooms and hit the slopes for some night skiing. It was FREEZING!!!. After snowboarding we cooked up some tacos and burritos for dinner, followed by some tequila and various other liquid substances. Saturday morning was a lazy one as Andy and I cleaned the condo a little and then walked over to the slopes. I snowboarded the afternoon, spending the greater part in the woods ... read more
