Europe » France » Rhône-Alpes » Val Thorens March 27th 2007

Val Thorens is part of a resort area called “Les Trois Vallees” which literally translates from French as the three valleys. Each of the three valleys has a town with a ski resort. Together they make up “Les Trois Vallees”. Ross, Dan, Mike and myself went to Val Thorens which is the highest resort in Europe at 2300 meters above sea level for our spring break. The bus ride was long but we met some Dutchies who kept us entertained, especially Ross and Mike. For the 10 day period, the weather could not have been any better. Upon arrival, we were graced with a beautiful blue sky. We took advantage as we sat outside and relaxed for a little. In the early evening the snow started and didn’t really stop for a week. Every morning we ... read more

Think of craziness in the streets (not a violent craziness - just people having fun in costumes craziness) - The picture in your mind should be Carnaval in Maastricht. This Carnaval brings out all crowds and all kinds of costumes as you can see in the pictures. Many celebrations of Carnaval worldwide are known for their parades, Maastricht's Carnaval is known for its elaborate costumes. Some families work on theirs all year.... read more

On a dark and stormy night... We came back to the room and Ross was fast asleep. Julia and I decided to have a little fun. It started with a few articles that were lying around. Some were taken from his room, and some from the kitchen. When Ross didn't move, we felt obligated to keep going. As you can see from the photos, Ross ended up with an empty cupboard and a full bed.... read more

The day started very slowly, we were all very hung-over but we were determined to make it home so we got up. Tamara took over the driving and drove us all the way home, well to the airport at least. From there we metroed and trammed our way home. Nothing to eventful took place during the drive home, except for finally naming the car. All weekend whenever we turned the radio on Justin Timberlake was always playing. For this reason we named the car Justin Timberlake. We had also contemplated JT and Justin but after much debate agreed on the full name Justin Timberlake.... read more

The day started earlier for the girls than it did for the guys. Ross and I parked the car last night so this morning the girls had to move it into the lot so we wouldn't get a ticket. (While the boys slept) When we met later in the morning to put our bags in it for the day the guy next to us had his windows shattered and his stuff stolen. Not fun! We were a little sketched out to leave the car there but considering we had nothing in the car, there was little reason for someone to break into it so we left to walk around. The first stop was the main square and of course on the way we shared a waffle and chocolate. Both lived up to their reputation. Mmmm.... After ... read more

Europe » Luxembourg » Luxembourg City February 9th 2007

The day started early, Julia showered first at 7:40, then Chelsea, me and finally Ross. We were quick and made our way to breakfast. We headed off on our day excursion to see the old part of Luxembourg. Outside the hostel we were immediately faced with an uphill walk (Julia would argue climb - only because she needed to rest part way up and then catch her breath at the top.) At the top is the wall surrounding the old city, which was built in 963. It is no longer fully intact but a good part of it still exists. (As can be seen in the pictures) We walked around the wall and through the town. It is not very big and we finished seeing everything we wanted to in half a day. We decided to ... read more

The day began with a snow storm. The city was covered, it was beautiful! People here were so excited. By the end of the day, the snow had stopped and our road trip was about to begin. Julia, Tamara, Chelsea came up to Ross and my room and then we left on our adventure. The road trip began 5 for 5. As we walked out, a group of people were standing and we got high fives all around, the tram, metro and train all came right away, and arriving at the airport, the door opened on the side we were standing. We picked up the car, its a little opel, so cute!!! The destination for the night's drive is Luxembourg, only 4-5 hours away. On the way to Luxembourg we stopped in Utrecht for dinner at ... read more
