So after months of hard work Hou Xia, the owner of the AiKe bar (爱客) in which I teach English, together with her boyfriend and the managers opened a new bar- MoreFun (魔方- magic cube). Of course on the occasion of it was organized an opening party which lasted four days. Every day many guests, around 80- 100 people- friends, family and even my friends from the university. And everyone was same impressed. Waiters, bartenders and chefs (not to mention the managers) gave 100%. From 6:30PM dinner that included about twenty meals and from 9:00PM coctail party :) Only delicious things... Margarita, B-52, Long Island Iced Tea and even... my hot wine which I introduced to the menu and which gained popularity among my Chinese friends and all the guests. Except that lots of fruit, desserts, ... read more
These both are supposed to bring good luck to the bar. The cat belongs to the Japanese tradition, the fish to the Chinese tradition.

Seagulls from Siberia flew to Kunming. It's a sign that to "the city of an eternal spring" came winter. Every year the seagulls are an attraction for the local people. Everyone gathers around the Green Lake park and takes photos. Seagulls don't only attract the local people but also people selling "special" bread. ("Special" because the same kind of bread is used to make hot dogs in the summer time.) Another evidence for it that creativity of the Chinese people and their ideas for making money have no limits. Unfortunately, winter brought also its hardships. It doesn't snow, there is no hard frost like in Poland. Here though -4 Celsius degrees (25F) at night, max. 6 Celsius degrees (43F) during the day, rain and humid air are enough to make winter really hard. There is no ... read more

The Chinese people are famous for coming up with newer and newer products that spread around the world. Imagination has no limits though. One day, while walking some street I noticed a guy selling... small chickens. In a few colors. As I got to know aftarwards, they are dyed (permanently!) and genetically modified so they don't grow up. And people are buying them as... pets. They eat dogs and cats and domesticate chickens. Well... The matter of liklings? *** Chinczycy slynni sa z wymyslania coraz to nowszych produktow, ktore zasypuja caly swiat. Wyobraznia jednak nie ma granic. Przechodzac pewnego dnia ulica zauwazylam pana sprzedajacego... male kurczaki. W kilku kolorach. Jak sie okazalo bowiem sa one pofarbowane (na stale!) i tak genetycznie zmodyfikowane, aby nie urosly. A ludzie kupuja je jako... domowe zwierzatka. Jedza psy i koty ... read more

Autumn came. My favorite season. And together with autumn came first chilly nights and first cold. Days though are full of falling leaves, still warm sun and sunny autumn nostagia. Sweater, crochet-needled beret-like cap, hot green tea and steam from rice pots rising into the air. Autumn reflections. Together with the autumn nostalgia came the decision of cancelling the return ticket. I decided to stay. For now I don't even think of coming back, I don't plan anything. Within last few months I learnt and remembered for good that there is no point. Life rushes very fast. Nothing is certain. Certain are only changes. Sometimes the world we create for ourselves for tomorrow, changes its shape today. Every time I would make plans for the future, the present would surprise me. So I just told myself ... read more

Chinese people really like Halloween. And although they have their own (Chinese) version of this "holiday", they still like to celebrate the American one. And like many Europeans, they just treat this day as another excuse to party and have fun. *** Chinczycy bardzo lubia Halloween. I always thought that karaoke clubs were the most stupid and retarded idea in the world. I didnt understand how you can have fun singing all night long. And it appears that in China the karaoke clubs (called KTV) are very popular and are considered to be one of the more expensive types of entertainment. So one day after work, my coworkers came up with idea of getting some rest in KTV. First I said no, Im not going anywhere. But their enthusiasm made me take this risk. And good for me. We were having so much fun that a few days after we went there again. And we got so much rest that we went back home at 8:00 in the morning. What is more I learnt a few Chinese drinking games ;) On the ... read more

So today is the Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival, or in Chinese, Zhongqiu Jie (中秋節). It is a popular harvest festival celebrated by Chinese people dating back over 3,000 years to the moon worship in China's Shang Dynasty. The Chinese Moon Festival is on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month, which this year is on the 3rd of October. The legend says that Chang Er, the moon goddess of immortality, flew to the moon where they lived happily ever after. You might still see her dancing on the moon during the Moon Festival! ;) On this day families and friends gather to celebrate together, eat moon cakes and obviously admire... the bright mid-autumn full moon. In China, the Moon Festival is as important as Christmas in the West. The typical ... read more

We very often say we won't make something or that we won't survive it. And then we somehow survive everything. Literally everything. I've been always saying to myself and other people that impossible doesn't exist. Something may be hard or very hard. But it's never impossible. Our life puts us to many tests, makes us go through many difficult situations. If we give up or make it, depends only on us. The point is to always go forward. Slower or faster but always forward. With bravery, strength and self-confidence. Because sometimes in hard moments we can rely only on ourselves. I take my stay here in China for such a test. Life test, testing myself. I have a feeling that every day changes me. Every tear and downfall make me stronger. Every day I learn someting ... read more

Before I came to China, somebody asked me if I was going to work here. I said yes, beacause I don't like wasting time. But now I have a feeling it's actually all about killing it. I'm not feeling here well as everyone probably knows since I'm not hiding it at all. I'm not hiding either that every day my aggression, irritation and anger towards this environment raise more and more. So when I got three jobs, I accepted all of them. Work as a "therapy"? I guess so... The best way "not to think" and not to spend too much time with just myself. First I work in... the Chinese preschool. Yes, I teach Chinese kids English, which actually makes me happy. Although 36 kids in one group sometimes scares me. After I come back ... read more
