25thMay route Port Denison, Green Head, Juried Bay, Cervantes RAC Cervantes Holiday Park $43 per night Rating by us 5/10 Big grass sites, old facilities but clean, walking to beach a bonus 25th May to 27th May Cervantes Mileage Port Denison/Dongarra 8603, Cervantes 8762 travelled 159 kms Thursday 25th May Heading back towards Perth the weather is fast becoming cooler. We had some rain last night and packed up with tracksuits on against the cold this morning. Once we had packed up we headed to the coffee shop planning on having a last “world go buy” half hour on the foreshore before heading off, but the wind was bitterly cold so we hit the car and drank our coffee on the way. We have planned a short trip today in order to enjoy the last few ... read more

Tuesday 23rd May Having decided to head home at the week end we attempted to extend our stay here till then, but they are fully booked, so moving on to Cervantes for our last stop on Thursday, returning home on Sunday. Enjoying the last few days of doing nothing today. Had a short ride around the place it has changed hugely since I last visited but that was over thirty years ago. They now have a new marina created by a huge number of rocks been dropped into the ocean to create a safe harbour. Walked to the coffee shop and sat on the sea front watching the world go by until mister Tippy had had enough and we walked on. We walked so far that Tippy refused to go on and then promptly fell asleep ... read more

Sunday 21st May After all the exercise yesterday, we are having a quiet day today. I was up in the middle of the night taking cold remedy as I seem to have picked up a summer cold, I am hoping it is my hay fever playing up after all the wind out at the Skywalk yesterday, time will tell. Coffee sitting out on the foreshore was cut short, with a very strong wind blowing across the ocean straight on shore, headed back to the car and watched the world go by whilst we drank our coffee. We headed off in the car for a cruise around the houses been built around the town and see what it is all like. Called at a number of amazing lookout points along the way and got some spectacular shots ... read more

Saturday 20th May Tourist day today, we called at the Tourist Board and got an $8 (Concession) day pass to the National Park. We started at the Skyway, which is two horseshoe shaped cantilevered viewing platforms that hang in mid-air 100m above the Murchison River gorge. I was very impressed that despite his fear of heights G managed to walk out on both and take lots of photos as well. Half of the walkway is a solid floor, and the other half is a grid so it was easier for him being that he could not see straight down, good design. The gorge is made up of the most amazing layers of rock in all sorts of colours which change as the sun moves around. Playing with the zoom on my camera I got some quality ... read more

19th May route Denham, Overlander Roadhouse, Kalbarri Kalbarri Tudor Holiday Park $43 per night Rating by us Good size site, showers hot and clean 9th May to 22nd May Kalbarri Mileage Denham 7862 Kalbarri 8237 travelled 375 kms. Friday 19th May Travelling day today moving further south to Kalbarri hopefully it will not get too cold. Last call on our list of things to se in Shark Bay was Shell Beach, it is close to the highway so we agreed we would stop on the way out of Denham. I cannot help but compare how things were when I cam up here in 1991 and the changes are not good, this was the case at Shell Beach. The commercialisation is horrendous with shelters and notice boards all over the place, at ... read more

Wednesday 17th May Slow and lazy start to the day, feeling less and less like doing anything, which is really good. Coffee at camp couldn’t even summon the get up to g o to the café !!!! Time for a drive out to the Little Lagoon. The lagoon is fed by a small creek its only outlet to the ocean. The lagoon is very shallow and so tranquil, warnings are posted about the stone fish we say at the aquarium, so we donned our reef shoes which we bought for our Cocos Island trip, really safe for your feet in unknown places like this. We had to keep an eye on the dog but he is only ever wanting to paddle although he did get out of his depth and swam quiet naturally but soon headed ... read more

Monday 15th May Headed out early this morning, well early for us, to visit the Ocean Park Aquarium. We had been told we could take Tippy, and the staff confirmed this, but with a group of about 20 people including numerous kids it was too hard so unfortunately, he had to sit this one out in his crate in the UTE. He was OK as it was a cool day with a good breeze to keep the ventilation going through the open side window in the canopy. The aquarium has numerous tanks with various fish, and they are knowledgeable about the species they have. Some are used on specialist breeding programs, they have released some 100K plus snapper to the wild around the bay to repopulate the dwindling stocks, this along with a fishing ban on ... read more

Sunday 14th May Chores day today, washing, sweeping out the van, emptying the wastewater and the toilet and all on Mother’s Day. G put all the carpets outside to shake whilst he swept the floor and our darling little man took, two seconds to grab the bathroom mat and rip it to shreds, some days I could throttle him. Chores done we sat and enjoyed the breeze in the shade, reading the paper and books. Mother Day lunch at the Asian café on the seafront, a very nice fish curry. When you have lunch at a café run by Asians then eat Asian food I say, proved correct although G’s burger was good as well. Watched the emus walking around the road they are not scared of anything, and the traffic always stops for them, they ... read more

Saturday 13th May Disturbed night’s sleep, we seem to have picked up a mouse , it is nibbling something directly over our heads, sounds so loud at night, not sure what we can do. Opened all the cupboards but nothing is obvious, have to wait and see what happens tonight. Heading the 28km across the peninsular today to Monkey Mia. I visited in the early 90’s it will be interesting to see the changes. Called for a take away coffee at the café and was blown away by a very thick Yorkshire accent, ended up being four girls travelling on 12 month working visas from Leeds, what a small world. The road is well maintained with lots of 4WD tracks taking off to the many bays along the way. The views as we round the hills ... read more

Friday 12th May The day after travelling we are always a bit wiped out and not really keen to do much. Coffee on the foreshore at 10ish watching the traffic stop for the Emus wandering up the road and into the park. Admiring the view and watching the world go by. Pies from the bakery for lunch, not bad but Northam bakery is better. Short ride around the town which is bigger and has more residents than we thought, they have their own Centrelink office that says it all really. Looks like mostly fishing and tourism, they have a fish factory at the outskirts of town. With a footy oval and a primary school, it is a pretty biggish town. The bay is deep in sea grasses which I managed to photograph on one of the ... read more
