Tuesday 16 th April, BroomeRAC Cable Beach Caravan ParkCost $41.62 per night with membershipRated by us 8/10Mileage 17707 travelled 0With the humidity lower and a nice breeze we decided to head off early and walk around Chinatown early. When G and I came to Broome in 2011 we had taken our photograph outside a shop called Betties Frock Shop we have spoken of this often over the years and decided to try and replicate the photo. We searched what we thought was the street and googled it only to ask a local and discover it had recently closed down, ah well. WE sat outside and had a coffee and muffin and watched the world go by. The buildings and sculptures of Chinatown are very interesting and tell the story of the founding of ... read more

Monday 15 th April, BroomeRAC Cable Beach Caravan ParkCost $41.62 per night with membershipRated by us 8/10Mileage 17707 travelled 0The weather is very hot and humid today and not realising how hot we set out to do some chores around camp. That proved too hot so we set off for a walk in Chinatown via Kmart for Tshirts for G. We managed a short walk but soon realised that the 38 degrees and 56% humidity was too much so we headed back to camp. Relaxing afternoon dodging the heat and swimming to stay cool. Just up the road from our site is the famous Cable Beach sunset spot and the beach on which the camels do there sunset walk along the beach. We loaded up the cameras and set off to see the ... read more

Sunday 14 th April, BroomeRAC Cable Beach Caravan ParkCost $41.62 per night with membershipRated by us 8/10Mileage 17707 travelled 0Very muggy night and it was the same when we got up today, it is not pleasant.Decided to go and have walk on the famous Cable Beach which is walking distance from our camp site, across the road and over the dunes. The walk over the dunes was high and hot but the beach is amazing, some people were swimming despite the signs warning of crocs and the deadly Box and Irukundji Jellyfish, rather then than me. We did walk in the shallows and let Tippy have a paddle, still not confident to let him off his lead, when other dogs approach his recall goes out the window, shame really need to work ion ... read more

Found the hotel that we stayed in when we flew up here for a week in 2011, still open and looking OK. Gantheaume Point looks interesting you can drive right onto the beach which looks firm, we will spend a day there with our new awning on they car.On into China Town to do some food shopping at Coles, another spot we will take walk around later ... read more

Friday 12 th April, BroomeRAC Cable Beach Caravan ParkCost $41.62 per night with membershipRated by us 8/10Mileage 17707 travelled 0Had a ride into town to find the Information Bureau we want to gte the Horizontal Falls booked then we can plan the rest of Broome around that. The staff were excellent and even recommended the bookkeeper from the office to look after Tippy for the day, she moonlights as a dog sitter when she is not working, clever move. The ladies name is Dot and she seems very nice the staff highly recommended her and I think it will be better than the kennels at the vet. Unable to find his Turkey roll so he will have to be on just kibble for a while, the vet sent us to a pet shop but ... read more

The heavens opened and the wind howled at 1am we were outside in the rain bringing in the awning and then packing everything away out of the rain chaos, camping what fun, we ended up in hysterics there is nothing else you can do, all part of the deal and fun!!!After the restless night we got up early had a quick breakfast and packed up, still raining and hit the road. We have been unable to locate any camps between here and Broome some 600+ kms ... read more

Monday 8 th April, Port HedlandG’day Discovery Park Port HedlandCost $43 per night with membershipRated by us 6/10Mileage 17089 travelled 342Easy pack up this morning on what appears to be a cooler day, lets hope the cyclone has passed and taken it’s low with it and the hot weather.Stopped on the way out of Dampier to photograph probably the most photographed sculptor in The Pilbarra, a bronze statue of Red Dog and information boards about his life. It was really well done and he is famous I guess. The day is cloudy and overcast and the patterns in the clouds are amazing, took lots of photos along the way. The landscape is flat and brown looks like the rain has not reached here this year. A little further along it was noticeably greener wi ... read more

Saturday 6 th April, DampierDampier Caravan ParkCost $39 per night Rated by us 5/10Mileage 16747 travelled 0Late rise after a cool night thanks to thye air con, so glad we got it working, the night temperatures still been in the high 20’s and humid. We had a slow drive around Karratha and Dampier, not much for tourists but then it is a mining, shipping town. G is enjoying watching the ships load and I found a sign with some interesting fun facts about the port. The work that goes on here is fascinating, not sure why there are so many people live here just for the port as the mines are all inland. The one port we are looking at loads 16 ships per week with a blended iron ore all going to china, ... read more

Friday 5 th April, DampierDampier Caravan ParkCost $39 per night Rated by us 5/10Mileage 16747 travelled 332Interesting run out of Onslow towards Dampier, lots of salt lakes dissected by the highway, they harvest them every few years in rotation, they seem to cover a lot of ground. The landscape is now very barren with towering hills full of iron ore, the dust and ground is the famous red that gets into everything, annoying but you have to experience it to see what it can do. White bed sheets are looking very pink despite nightly showers, may need to get some cheap dark ones!!!The road is what I call typical Australia, it runs dead straight and disappears into the horizon, the heat shimmers in the distance and causes a mirage of were the ... read more
