11th May route Carnarvon, Wooramel Roadhouse, Denham Blue Dolphin Caravan and Holiday Park $47.50 per night Rating by us 7/10 11th May to 18th May Denham Mileage Carnarvon 7430 Denham 7753 travelled 323 kms Thursday 11th May Retracing our steps as far as Hamelin Pool so not much we had not already seen apart from two lots of water across the road. Unfortunately, Graeme was looking at something off to the right of the road and did not see the sign at the left-hand side of the road advising of the water. We hit the first lot at speed and now have mud all up the caravan to the roof, as the water rushed up to the windscreen of the car, fortunately it was not deep ... read more

Wednesday 10th May Well memories of caravanning in the UK came flooding back last night. It began to thunder and lighten about midnight, and we rushed out to bring in the chairs and roll in the awning. We were just in time as the heavens opened about half an hour later and we had torrential rain for most of the night. The ground is too dry to absorb the water and the camp site was 80% flooded this morning, Graeme is still blaming me for packing the umbrella !!! Thank goodness I got all the laundry done yesterday as the rain was persistent today, we managed to shop and fill the fuel but not a lot else. We were happy to have a quiet day today as we have to travel again tomorrow.... read more

9th May route Exmouth, Minilya River Bridge Roadhouse, Carnarvon, Big4 Plantation Caravan Park $43 per night ($50 Big4 Membership) Rating by us 6/10 9th May to 10th May Carnarvon Mileage Exmouth 7070 Carnarvon 7430 travelled 360 kms Tuesday 9th May Driving day today heading back south to Carnarvon to get out of the humidity. Retracing our steps, we stopped on the Termite Plains to get some shots of the mounds, they are amazing. Shots of the never-ending roads going off into the horizon are captivating. Not many people on the road today, saw our first four trailer tanker when we let him pass us on his way to who knows, he was very grateful that we let him pass, we are meandering along at 90kmp and ... read more

Monday 8th May Still working on doing nothing, it is a hard thing when you have been busy all your life, we both have worked since been young kids, that is a long time, so we are finding it hard. Found a lovely spot at the Information Centre, sitting outside the breeze seems to funnel down the area outside a perfect place for coffee and for Tippy, the food is fresh and tasty as well. Walked across the road to the center via the Big Prawn and the information boards regarding how the fishing was established here by the Kailis Brothers who are in Perth, I was not aware of that, learnt a bit. The giant prawn is a bit tacky, but this is an Australian thing with giant all sorts around the country, this is ... read more

Sunday 7th May Both finding it hard to switch off and do nothing, despite booking two more nights to chill and relax, we started on the “what are we doing today” thing again. Whilst sat outside having breakfast the lady next door let us know that there is a craft market in the park, same spot as we had diner last night, worth a walk we thought. It was a disappointment with only half a dozen small craft stalls and not many people, but everyone seemed to have a dog. Walked into the shopping center and got a very nice dairy free mango smoothie made with coconut water very nice, watched the world go by for a while, getting better at not doing. The weather seems cooler today with a nice breeze, so we headed down ... read more

Saturday 6th May With no cloud cover today, it looks like it will be hot, but maybe not so humid. Headed off to Town Beach at about 10am to have a swim. Having seen the beach yesterday Graeme was happy to drive onto the beach and park the back of the UTE facing the ocean, saved me a lot of hard walking with no shoes on, thankfully. We both had a swim but Tippy was not too sure, he did get out of his depth and swim but he is not keen, we took it in turns to stay in the shallows with him to let him make his own mind up, he was pretty stressed about what was happening to us, we encouraged him and talked to him and he seemed to be OK but ... read more

Friday 5th May After yesterday’s driving day, I felt like I didn’t want to do much today. We packed the chairs; I made coffee and snacks, and we headed out to The Lighthouse which is on the top of a hill to sit and watch the world go by. Spent a very relaxing morning enjoying the views and the amazing sea breeze, lots of people visiting despite the roads been quiet. We cannot go any further on this road as we enter a National Park, and the dog is banned so we headed back to town for lunch. Having forgotten to pack my swimmers I was pleasantly surprised to find a tankini in my size be at $150 but that’s what you get for forgetting things ah well its only money. After lunch we had a ... read more

4th May route Carnarvon, Minilya River Bridge Roadhouse, Exmouth Ningaloo Caravan and Holiday Park $55 per night Rating by us 5/10 Very small bays and very crowded, shell floor, limited shade, good facilities 4th May to 8th May Exmouth Mileage 6943 travelled 383kms Thursday 4th May Driving day today, the weather is getting a bit too hot for me, and Graeme agreed. We will see how the next few days work out, but if we are sitting in the van with the air con on from 2pm in the afternoon what is the point of been this far north and maybe we should go back south a bit, to maybe Shark Bay, we shall see. Today we were reminded of the vastness and desolation of Australia. ... read more

Wednesday 3rd May Well, our last day in Carnarvon and I think we have done all we want to do. Washing cleaning and getting ready to roll day. Great laundry here so got all the washing up to date, folded and put away, discovered that my shorts are too heavy for this weather and with a Rockman’s in town looks like buying some lighter ones is the go. Local grilled fish and chips at the More De Sol for lunch, Tippy is getting so good at sitting/lying at our feet whilst we have food, he gets a titbit of course for been so good, I also have his treats which I use but on the whole he is so good, but still not keen on small yappy dogs. Heat got to me this afternoon, tied up ... read more

Tuesday 2nd May Well, what a shock to the system this morning we had to get up and get moving. We had decided to visit the Carnarvon Science and Space Museum, and this meant leaving the dog in the car, so we wanted to get in when they opened whilst it was still cool for him, which meant been there at 9am, first time limit on us since we set off, it felt weird!!! I was very pleasantly surprised at the size and professional presentation of the material at the museum. I thought it would be a small half-baked place, but it was amazing. The exhibits were interesting, well laid out and interactive. The fun bit been laying on your back in a reproduced Apollo 11 capsule, the sounds, and screens inside took you through a ... read more
