Hello all. I have entered into a journey that will take me on a spiritual sojourn to Europe for three months and then onward to parts unknown. To my surprise past students, and now friends, feel guided to join me. We are now four and seek to meet other spiritually like-minded individuals, or groups, who have a sense for adventure, a desire for community, and love for Spirit in all its myriad forms. This travel-blog then, is our effort to share our combined adventures with loved ones, and others who also may be searching in similar ways for the deepest expressions of their lives. Or for those who, on the other hand, merely want to know if I've finally left Arizona for good.

Blessings,
Lettie

PS I could not have prepared or attempted this journey without the assistance of many beloved friends, clients, students and family. I take a bit of you in my heart every where I go. Love to you all!

Kihei's Kindness We roll into Kihei on Maui’s south shore with our convertible top down and lathered in hypoallergenic sunscreen. The wind is rustling our hair, we’re looking pert in our dark sunglasses, and we talk and laugh as we cruise. It is warmer, sunnier here. We love it. We’ve pulled off the main thoroughfare of Hwy 31 (also known as Pi’ilani Highway) onto S. Kihei road which runs the length of Kihei and through, what seems to me, the heart of Kihei. Following the edges of the ocean we are provided sneak previews of clear blue waves, bikini clad swimmers, and long wide beaches of white sands. We practically salivate. But first, to our hotel to get checked in, rid ourselves of luggage, and locate a restaurant for lunch. I am starving. We pull into ... read more

Time to Leave, Or Is It? It's time to leave the upcountry hills and mountains of Maui. Though I experienced an affinity with the upcountry - and i do love my mountains - other adventures await us and the lure of a new adventure is one i can rarely deny myself. However, before we depart we take a side tour to visit an unusual site. I love interesting architecture, cemeteries and holy places, to name a few. I’m ecstatic if all three are combined in one place. And so it is that I learn that Holy Ghost Mission is nearby. We drive a short distance and there, just off the road, is the most unusual architecture - an octagon shaped church. I am fortunate once again to be nearly the only person in sight. I discover ... read more

Blogging For Becky Becky thought she might provide an entry explaining why she is carrying around a cardboard cutout that resembles her grandson and that is in a number of our photos. Becky?... Alas, it has not manifested. So, here i am then, trying to explain what i am not entirely clear about myself. Those of you with children undoubtedly know what i don't. But my understanding is that there is a book about a boy who gets flattened, i think literally, and hence becomes known as "Flat Stanley". He is able to travel by being mailed... Well, that's about all i know about it. And that may not be entirely right. Still, Becky has the cutest figure made out of two pieces of light cardboard, painted to look like her grandson - it really ... read more

Haleakala Sunset Of all the events of the day, this coming “meeting” is one I have looked forward to with interest and anticipation. My sense to attend to a sunset rather than a sunrise - which others said was amazing - is due purely to spiritual guidance. Our sense was clear and I trusted that this experience, and not the other, was the one that belonged to us. I brought with me those items that are tokens of my respect and that reflect my gratitude for the aspect of Life/Spirit that we will commune with while there. The two nature aspects in this case are Fire and Water. Primal as they are, each is experienced uniquely according to the time, place, and purpose at hand. In this case, I could feel the elemental nature of ... read more

Exploring the Upcountry I woke early from jet lag (5 hour time difference from Kansas) at 5:30 AM - an ungodly hour for me, but I didn‘t seem to mind it here; as if the cool and beautiful upcountry of Maui is having its affect on me. Becky’s already gone breakfasting with Michael, our B&B host. I join later to find an attractive table set and one large bowl of fresh fruit remaining, left for me and my private enjoyment. Pineapples, bananas, papayas, and mangos from Michael’s yard plus imported strawberries and kiwis. What a colorful and festive spread and wow! the fruit was great! Last, but not least I smelled the heady aroma of homemade baked pastries. They turned out to be hot baked cinnamon rolls. Becky said they were mighty tasty. I squelched ... read more

Arriving at Upcountry B&B was a treat for us our first night on Maui. Michael Sullivan our host meets, greets us, and shows us to our room. He is quick, decisive, and a walking encyclopedia of information on just about everything. His home is furnished very nicely if decidedly masculine in nature. I love the all white walls and cool colors. An accent wall in our bedroom is in deep blue green as is matching furnishings. We have a fireplace, TV/DVD/VCR, wet bar and mini fridge. Our view through our sliding gass doors has a nearly spectacular (accept for the power lines) view of the West Maui Mountains. We stow our things and are quickly taken on a tour of the two story house, his pottery studio, and yards. There are 5 rooms total for guests. ... read more

Whoopee! We are finally on our way. Becky turns and looks at me with a giggle and a grin "We're going to Hawaii!" Like i didn't know that. But i laughed and said "Yes, at last we are." After a 5 hour flight we landed without incident. I'd like to pause a second to thank the kind and generous flight attendant who moved us to 4 empty seats so that i could accomodate my particular needs, have more leg room, and eventaully take a nap. I was very grateful for the preferential treatment. Through security, down this ramp, and around that bend we, and other groups of travellers, were all finally spit out into bright sunshine and very blue skies with white puffy clouds. Humid air wrapped around me immediately and though not uncomfortably hot, it ... read more

Well, i think i screwed up things this time. Becky and i sensed for the dates and times for our flights to Hawaii, as well as the airline - just to be safe. Later i received an e-mail saying that our flight had been changed and we were given a new itinerary. When i viewed it we had a 4 hour layover in San Francisco. I thought this too long for me. I was concerned about fatigue and other health issues. So, i called the airlines, explained my situation and they generously changed it so that i had only 45 minutes layover. This, i thought, was great. We departed Phoenix in total preparation and expectation that we would be in Maui by early evening. Before we even landed in San Fran our pilot informed us that ... read more

Hi everyone! I am excited to share another adventure with you. An old student and friend of mine, Becky, and I are preparing for another trip. This time to Maui, Hawaii. As i rarely do anything like most people, perhaps you may be interested once again in my travels and trevails. To catch you up on things, here's what's been going on: I went to visit family in Kansas and during that time decided to buy a small rv trailer. In the late fall i purchased one and it became home. I planned to live in it and travel as needed. Now, i was very excited about this as i have not had a home of my own for over 14 years (i think it's been that long) and though this was nothing fancy it was ... read more

St. Claude, to Oynnax...Change Trains I feel as if I can barely meet my most basic survival needs. My Paris rail experience took the wind out of my sails. I am cold, hungry, sick and exhausted; I am seeing primarily the inside of bus and railway stations, and hotel rooms. I know there must be a way through this, but don't know how. I think I am being asked, or pushed, to dissolve and deconstruct my beliefs and attitudes, that I need to find a way to be in the world differently, because by coming here on this sojourn I have asked for and agreed to a way for it to happen. None the less, another part of me is feeling bitter about my journey so far. I didn't think I had an agenda, but this ... read more
