Geo: 45.2855, -111.306This morning we woke up tarped in from the afternoon rain. It never did rain again, but the wrap up did provide a humid environment. We packed up the camp early then made our way to coffee and breakfast bisquit at the local Conoco Station. Delicioso! Then to Moonlight Corral for riding time. We had a great scenic ride through the mountains. A marmot and chipmunks were about the only wildlife seen. Apparently wolves came through recently and scared the wildlife back into the woods. Big sky sounds like an awesome place to ski, based on the locals reports. We checked out the lodge then headed down to lunch at the Wrap Shack.Limited on money and activity, we ditched Big Sky for Mammoth Springs. I have been neglectful describing the sites at Yellowstone. That's ... read more

Geo: 45.2855, -111.306White Water Rafting on the GallatinWow, a strange thing is happening. We slept inside for only the second time this trip and I couldn't sleep that well. I opened all the windows to try and make it the same temp, but it just wasn't the same. I don't know what I will do when I get home. I ran off early and found coffee down the road while Alex slept. I must add, the night before we finished watching a movie we had, and when it ended, just looked at each other and said, "what just happened?"We explored Big Sky and booked a horseback riding trip for tomorrow. Alex and I went on a 2 mile hike to a big waterfall in the morning. I wish we had mountains back home. It is such ... read more

Geo: 45.2855, -111.306Today, Saturday, started out like any other normal day for two weary travelers sleeping at random campsites. Well actually, our Japanese camp neighbors from Orlando woke us at 4:30 am as they were leaving camp for God only knows where. Besides that, I must say, since I purchased a new $20 sleeping bag at Kmart, I have been quite comfortable during these freezing nights. I packed up the camp early so we could hit the road. Alex was not up for the early part so he remained in the tent until I dragged him out in his sleeping bag. All that remained of the camp was Alex on the ground snug in his mummy bag refusing to get out. Once on the road, we headed out of Yellowstone towards the town of Ennis. Along ... read more

Geo: 44.4887, -110.012I know this is a day late but yesterday we started the the day by packing up our campsite and leaving Jackson hole Wyoming and started heading to Yellow Stone National Park. Then all of the sudden we saw red and blue light's in the rear view mirror and got pulled over by the first cop we had seen in a thousand miles. Then my dad said "oops" and realized that he was going faster then 45 in a 45. Then the cop came up and said that my dad was going 63 MPH, now if we were in a different car we would have completely believed him but we were in the jeep that has only been 65 MPH once before. so that's what happen with that. Then we made it to Yellow ... read more

Geo: 43.4796, -110.762So, we have not had much luck with Internet access so I haven't been able to upload the daily reports. Thank goodness for tarps. We spent another dry night in the Stover Motel thanks to our trusty tarp. Once the boy was shaken awake we drove to a small nearby town named Kelly. There we met this really nice guy that owned a small restaurant / store. Come to find out he is one of those guys that hikes up the mountains and skies the steep runs that no one ever sees. He rattled off names of his local buddies who are in the ski movies. The have a countdown to winter updated daily. It was great to see such passion for a sport. After breakfast we headed to Jenny Lake and took a ... read more

Geo: 43.4796, -110.762Alex and I have a favorite breakfast here in Jackson Hole. It is a breakfast burrito front Dog. So good! We woke up this morning in our hotel room discovering what a brilliant idea Alex had to stay there. It was poring down rain. Fortunately the rain stopped just intone for us to go four wheeling. They gave us a trailer and we drove 20 mile to shadow mountain. Votes #1 Atv trail in the Rockies. It was awesome. We saw the flowered meadows at the top of the mountains as well as a 360 view from a mountain peak. After a harrowing ride as Alex's passenger, the ride was topped off with a deer that posed for our cameraOnce back in town, we watched the evening shootout at the town square. A 47 ... read more

Geo: 43.4796, -110.762I am a day late writing this entry, so I will be making this quick as Alex wants to go four wheeling. We spent the night, I think night 5, and managed have another free nigh in the tent. It was another cold night, but I think we are now getting used to it. We talked to someone who said it just snowed in Yellowstone. After packing up the Jeep, we went to the incredible town of Jackson Hole for a shower. For $12.50 we were able to shower at the local rec center. Clean and ready to go, we had the best breakfast burrito. The town square is awesome and looks like a wild west town. We went to the local visitor center and planned the next couple days. Things to look forward ... read more

Geo: 41.7794, -110.538It's funny how when you have to work, you know for sure what day it is, but wen you don't, days don't matter. I say this because I wanted to mention that we almost hit a deer that ran beside us on a dirt road, then took a quick turn and went across in front of us. Thing is, I don't remember if that was today or yesterday. Do Alex and I had so much fun prehistoric fishing yesterday, that we went back for more. And yes, it was well worth the trip. To my pod mates, and especially Kate, I think we found the ancestor of the sucker fish. Before I move on, we spent last night off a dirt road down a hill in a clearing in front of a bunch of birch ... read more

Geo: 41.7794, -110.539To our fellow blog followers- So today was quite interesting, I woke up and noticed that my air mattress was half empty(notice I did not use half full) and i have a little feeling in my gut that I got sabotaged. I am not going to name any names but their is only one person with me. So after fully getting up with a sore back and a dry mouth we started to pack up and say goodbye to our 200 yard away neighbors and we set off on our four hour drive to Diamondville Wyoming. On the drive there we saw some cows, deer, and a few Buttes. Once we got to Diamondville we started to look for the Fossil Safari fossilized fish finding place and got lost and started to drive in ... read more

North America » United States » Wyoming » Rock Springs June 21st 2013

Geo: 41.5862, -109.223The trip has actually begun. After packing up camp, we headed towards west Wyoming to see the 2nd largest moving sand dunes. Ok, what does that mean? Not sure, but it sounds cool. That meant another 4 hour drive with you know who. So, while tyrannosaurs Rex made a couple appearances, the comedy was trying to keep the jeep on the road while Alex screemed Moooo at all the cows. They would just look up at us as we passed and he would laugh hysterically. Yeah, stuck in the jeep too long. We made it to the turnoff near Rock Springs. The landscape is beautiful. We proceeded down a dirt road, towards no civilization, and found out there were petroglyphs on the area. We parked the jeep, hikes a little ways, and found the ... read more
