Geo: 12.8654, -85.2072Blogging time has been limited, in part because of limited wifi and in part due to a lack of writing time. Our first day has given us a small glimpse of Nicaragua. The city of Managua has been noted as one of the more dangerous areas and not a real tourist destination. With that said, we left the city on the first bus we could. Off to Masaya we headed, in search of our first volcano. A city famous for its artisan market, we stopped to check out the city. The market is housed within the ancient walls of an old fort whose stone walls protected the people. small in comparison to other Mercado's, it held the crafts of local artists as well as mass produced tourist items. The hand crafted item that stood ... read more

Geo: 25.7928, -80.1349Day one of our travels was actually planned to be day of relaxing travel since our fight was not leaving Fort Lauderdale until close to midnight. We planned an early morning bus ride to Miami, and hopefully some fun times in South Beach. We had ourselves plenty of time, or so we thought, for Bill to get us to the terminal in Tampa. Stuck in traffic for an hour on the bridge was not factored into the plans. As our arrival time quickly approached, we resorted to the all knowing Google to navigate us quickly. I am fully convinced they know everything. Racing through through the streets of Tampa we arrive with only two minutes to spare. Megabus.com, the party has begun. This next portion of our journey was actually relaxing and uneventful. Surprisingly ... read more

Geo: 40.7528, -73.9853Our 3rd day in NYC started early, unfortunately for Alejandro. I purchased tickets for us to visit Liberty Island, where the Statute of Liberty stands tall, before our trip started. Having planned somewhat ahead, and knowing there was a professional volleyball tournament in the city, I scheduled us for an early tour so I could make it later in the afternoon to the men's finals. So off we went, grabbing a quick breakfast in the hotel lobby. We left at 7:00 am to catch our 8 am ferry to the great American monument. New York, always presenting some challenge to overcome, gave us a puzzle to solve. How to get to Battery Park and the Ferry from Times Square when construction has closed the usual #1 train from running all the way. Now maturing ... read more

Geo: 40.7528, -73.9853New York City, Day 2Day one presented us with a good acclimation period for observing and learning the New York culture. Waking on Day 2 in our high rise accommodations was exciting. With Alex still sleeping, I ventured to the streets of the city to see what this bustling area looks like when the people are still asleep. It was such a different sight. Time's Square was virtually empty. I sipped my coffee as I sat and enjoyed all the LED displays and signs without the distractions of the crowds. Wanting to make the best of our short time in the City and to see certain sights, we found an app run by tripomatic. We searched the sights we wanted to see and planned a non binding itinerary.I went back to the room, roused ... read more

Geo: 40.7528, -73.9853Packed up and away we go, saying goodbye to our condo, the mountains, and the countryside. New York bound, we drove South, headed for LaGuardia to return our trusted rental car that we will no longer need. Instead, it will be walking, busing, and train riding for us. Driving to the airport was only made possible with the use of the gps. We did make it, dropped off the car, put on our backpacks and purchased our unlimited use, 7 day transit ticket. As we were learning to use the transit system, we missed the first bus, no thanks to the bus driver who declined to so much as even point us in the right direction. Some nice people did help us out and off we went. Bus ride to a train, then, Times ... read more

Geo: 42.628, -72.8714Today provided probably what Alex and I have agreed was one of the best experiences all trip. We started out the day, ordinarily, cleaning up the condo and getting our bags packed and ready for our Urban hike through NYC tomorrow. I was even able to get some laundry done. Then off we went on our next excursion to try our hand at kayaking a small white water river. This should not be tried by just anyone. Remember, Alex and I consider ourselves white water experts, living in Florida and frequently kayaking the treacherous waters of the inter-coastal or bay areas. We have rafted in a few different countries, so we felt more than qualified to take on this next activity. Away we went, about an hour away, to the Deerfield River. When we ... read more

Geo: 42.4474, -73.2542Oh yeah, the adrenaline of riding a fancy mountain bike with disc brakes, down steep hills through the woods. While scary at times, mostly the sound of laughter could be heard as only guys will do as they narrowly miss running into trees at 20 miles an hour, or tumbling over huge rocks scattered throughout the course. While there were no real wipe outs, there were quite a few of those moments that, for a split second, we felt like we had no control over what was going to happen next. Today we went mountain biking at the Bousquet Ski area. During the summer, the local ski areas provider more summer appropriate activity. Here we were able to play on the newly developed down hill mountain biking course that opened for the first time ... read more

Geo: 42.5431, -73.3242When you take a vacation for more than a week, you undoubtedly will end up with some down time, unless that is, you have unlimited funds. So, the last 3 days have been just that for us, down time. Because of this, I am combining these pretty uneventful days into one blog entry. I am not knocking those of you who enjoy this form of vacationing, I just think 3 days was our limit. Surprisingly, we have not even come close to killing each other. We basically explored the nearby towns, and hung out by the pool. I did sneak a workout in one day, and we participated in a game of Bacchi ball with the event coordinater. The history in this area is quite amazing to see. The town right next to us ... read more

Geo: 43.7183, -74.1162Pirate Day on the Hudson. An annual event held by the Adirondack Adventure crew where they supply pirate costume items complete with eye-patches and scarfs. The crew dons their pirate best and a crazy fun filled day of rafting takes place on the Hudson River. They rate the rapids we rode as Class III-V, However, based on the Class V's Alex and I have done elsewhere, I think these were a little weak. The river was down a little, but it was still a lot of fun. We started the day by rolling out of our tent and packing up the camp. It is really nice having Alex at an age to help. We had the camp broken down and packed in no time at all. Off to town, we had a nice little ... read more

Geo: 43.7183, -74.1162Day 2 of camping in the Adirondacks was just what I really enjoy. The rain had continued the entire night, which was actually a nice sound on the tarp Alex had placed above our tent. We remained bone dry the entire night. Alex slept in, so I hiked a bit around the lake. As I approached the camp, I walked up on a deer, probably 10 feet away. How I was able to get that close I am not sure. It looked up as we noticed each other, and slowly walked away. What a great interaction with nature. Alex woke up a little later, and instead of subjecting my boy to the usual campfire grub of some sort of dirty eggs, we headed to town for some good county pancakes and omelets, as well ... read more
