One word for you regarding toilets in China...whizzer! That little gadget would have come in sooooo handy for you. We should have had the forethought to pack it in your bag when we pulled it out!!! Sorry, I didn\'t think of it! We should market that puppy in Asia....

In response to Sara's comment about shopping....
Hi Sara, I am enjoying your comments, and welcome back to work, btw. LOL, you can slap me for being cheeky about work when you see me later on this year, YES! Shoes, oh such beautiful shoes, but alas, my big western feet do not fit most of them. I did manage to buy some sandals the first day, cuz I was gonna kill myself in the rain in the flip flops, but so far no luck with anything gorgeous. Oh well, sigh, I guess that means I\'ll just have to buy a lot of silk to make up for that, eh? :)

Shopping!
It's hard not to buy too much when your are in those amazing markets and you see all of the wonderful things (fabrics etc.). I remember shoes!!! Having little feet made it possible to buy a lot of cheap cute shoes!!! Are there lots of shoe stores where you are? Sounds like you are having a great time! Love hearing about your adventures!

In response to Jean and Greg
Hey, it is very much like living in a sauna here at times, of late, it is much, much more bearable with the end of the rains! Gulang Yu is an older island, of the colonial era, so yes, very much from a bygone era. TOilets were horrible on Gulang Yu and yes, Jean, yesterday I threw a roll of toilet paper into my backpack and it has saved my a--, literally, since! LOL I am still working at not peeing on myself. Sadly, McDick's is everywhere as is KFC, these are not really great food icons of the western world to be sharing with China, but over this I have no control, and I'm not running the world yet, LOL! Yes, the buckets you saw were all live seafood, the Chinese have this part down to a science, and it's all so fresh, the taste is amazing. I would give anything to be feeling and smelling autumn at home--it is one of my favourite seasons, and it was very hard to breathe sometimes when it was so hot and muggy. Thanks for your compliments. I am enjoying sharing all of this with all of you very, very much! Xo

I dont\' know how to respond to that....cockroach??!!?? OMG! YUCK! I guess you were bound to see one over there. Just don\'t become friends with themLOL Do those guys drink bleach? OMG it\'s their elixer. (hee hee). I\'m glad you found a Walmart, maybe your saving grace, they carry alot of Bleach.

I can\'t imagine humidity like what you are talking about. Would it be like in a sauna?OMG!! How can you even breath? At this time we are beginning to see the signs of Autumn. Looking forward to the crisp cool air. I am so enjoying this blog, seeing all the different pictures and descriptions that you are sending.

McD is everywhere! Were those various live sea food items?OMG Were the tiolets any better at this island?:} Did you bring paper with you? Carolyn The BraveHeart :) I am just so entertained by your blog. This island looks somewhat cleaner; quaint cobble stone streets. Is it an older city?
6th September 2011

OMG Carolyn!!! However, you are a very entertaining writer. LMOA!! The pictures of the cuisine were something else. The food looks very colorful and appetizing.

Response to Pauline...
Hi Pauline, Today, I bought myself a tiny little coffee press and two charming coffee cups for about $8.50, very, very cheap. I also bought some ground coffee beans we found in a bookstore. If my tummy behaves tonight (it is not doing so well at the moment, and I am drinking 7 up and just chillaxin' on a very, very hot and humid afternoon) I may try to make myself a real cup of coffee. Thanks for your comments. You're right, it does take the homesickness edge off to get peoples' comments. ((((hugs)))) CH

The food sounds wonderful Carolyn. We remember the joy of instant Nescafe throughout our travels. It sure is better than nothing. When do you actually start teaching?

Differences
Okay, so why don't you have your own GD toothpaste from home? HUH? There appears to be many similarities between China and South America albeit S. A. Being more advanced. Sounds like you are settling right in Carolyn. LOL Keep your chin up and a few other parts as well.
