November 18 – Paris – Sunday – Today I decided I would take the #26 bus back to Gare St Lazare Station just to see where the darn bus stop for the #26 bus was at the station. I still had the suspicion that that French guy amused himself by giving me the wrong directions to the #26 bus stop. I’m sure he did now as the bus stops for all the buses was right across the street from the main entrance of the Gare St Lazare. I had went out a different way to the street and should have went out the main entrance. He could have told me to just take a right and go around the corner (which is what I should have done anyway) but he chose to be a jerk instead. ... read more

November 17 – Paris – Saturday – Today was supposed to be my first full day in Paris but one of my dorm mates woke me up while he was messing with his bag and I asked him what time it was. He told me 11:00. So I got up and got dressed, and went downstairs and drank my tea while thinking things over. I had been studying the Metro Map and took the #4 metro train to Chatlet les Halles. I came up out of the metro and wandered around a bit and stopped at a place selling pizza by the slice. It was nothing to brag about but it put something in the hole. After snacking I walked over to Notre Dame and checked out the outside of it. There was a pretty good ... read more

November 16 - Friday – Bayeux to Paris – I got ready to depart from Bayeux to Paris. As usual I left a pile of what I figured I could do without on the bed for the maid or whoever. I caught a cab from the hotel to the train station. It cost me €7.50. I caught the 11:42 train to Paris with a changeover in Caen, and arrived at the Gare Lazare in Paris. The train trip was very comfortable and went through some very picturesque country. I arrived at the train station and after the usual groping around a bit took the #30 bus to the Gare du Nord. I should have caught the #26 bus but made the mistake of asking a Frenchman where it left from and he sent me off in completely ... read more

November 15 , Bayeux tapestry and the Museum of the battle of Normandy – I visited the Museum of the Battle of Normandy and the Bayeux tapestry. Both were impressive. I was awed a bit by the Bayeux tapestry. It was fascinating. I have booked a bed in the Smart Place Paris hostel next to the Gare du Nord station. So tomorrow morning I will head to Paris. I will take the train from Bayeux to Caen, then transfer to another train to Paris. It arrives at the Paris-St-Lazare station and I will have to take the RER or a bus to the Gare du Nord. From there I will have to walk over to the hostel. I’ve started out with 3 days in Paris and I will see how much more on Monday. 15 novembre ... read more

November 14 – Omaha Beach, The American Cemetery, and Pointe du Hoc – I had set my alarm so I got up around 8 and after drinking my tea and thinking things over and doing a little homework I got dressed and walked over to the train station. When I got there I checked out the Hotel De La Gare. The people who worked there were very nice and there was a connected café where one could sit out on and eat but they didn’t have WIFI so it was out of the question staying there. So I decided to just stay at the Premiere Classe Bayeux where I was. By now I didn’t have time to go into town to see the Bayeux Tapestry and get back to the station in time for the #70, ... read more

November 13 – Bayeux – I just didn’t want to give up on the day last night and stayed up late doing homework. A s a result by the time I got up and had my tea and thought things over, and did a little homework it was pushing 2PM……good Lord! So I quickly got dressed and walked over to the train/bus station here intending to have a look around and then catch that “bybus” into town. While waiting for the bybus I noticed that the buses were very infrequent in the afternoon and just decided rather than wait just walk into town. So I started walking and when I got to the roundabout I took the wrong road off to the right and ended up walking all the way to the Eisenhower Circle before I ... read more

November 12 – Bayeux – I had a busy day today. I got checked out of my room in Caen and took the bus to Baeux. I took the bus because the train went to the train station outside of town and I couldn’t check into my hotel room till 5PM so I wanted to go to the city center where I could explore things a bit as well as check out the information available from the tourist bureau. Then I would explore a bit more and maybe find a local bus that would take me a bit nearer to my hotel. The train and bus lines travel almost on the line between Caen and Bayeux, that the English and Germans fought it out while the English and Canadians were trying to take Caen. Bayeux was ... read more

November 11 – Caen – Having decided that I had “done Caen” on Friday evening I did pretty much today as I did yesterday. I just stayed in my room and did homework on various things. It was such a shame really as looking out the window I saw blue sky and realized it was a beautiful day. Still it was another odd day here. Although the weather was good there was no one walking the street below and it was as quiet as I have ever heard it anywhere. A really strange thing, kinda feels like I am in the twilight zone. It’s really one of the strangest thing I have ever experienced. Such quiet in such a large city. Maybe since it’s Armistice day that has something to do with it? Oh well….I guess ... read more

November 10 – Caen – Saturday – Saturday seems to be a quiet day in Caen. Usually the street below my window at the hotel is bustling but today hardly anyone has been in it but some people standing in a doorway smoking in the cold. Since they can’t smoke inside they stand out in the cold and rain and smoke…….I think if I smoked I would give it up before I would do that. By the way it was raining today. The first time since I left England that it has rained, it was quite nice not to have rain almost every day. It is somewhat cold though, but I can deal with that. I had thought the phone that I had gotten in England with an O2 SIMS card would work here but it ... read more

November 09 – Friday – Caen – I booked another 2 days here in Caen at the La Fontaine hotel. So I will be here through the weekend. It is supposed to be a bank holiday weekend and I have well learned not to travel on a bank holiday weekend. It is Armistice day. Through Booking.com, I got a very good rate at the Premiere Classe Bayeux in Bayeux for Monday thru Wednesday of next week. While in Bayeux I can check out the Bayeux Tapestry as well as the Battle of Normandy museum. If I have figured it out right I can also get to Omaha Beach and Arromanches using the # 70 and 74 buses out of Bayeux. The trick will be to make sure I don’t miss some little detail in their French ... read more
