November 13 - Bayeux

November 13 – Bayeux – I just didn’t want to give up on the day last night and stayed up late doing homework. A s a result by the time I got up and had my tea and thought things over, and did a little homework it was pushing 2PM……good Lord!

So I quickly got dressed and walked over to the train/bus station here intending to have a look around and then catch that “bybus” into town. While waiting for the bybus I noticed that the buses were very infrequent in the afternoon and just decided rather than wait just walk into town.

So I started walking and when I got to the roundabout I took the wrong road off to the right and ended up walking all the way to the Eisenhower Circle before I cut back on Rue St Jean street into town. So this made me later still.

I had planned on going to see the Bayeux Tapestry today but it was starting to look like I wasn’t going to get there in time. I stopped at the tourist bureau and asked them a few questions. They spoke and understood English there which was very helpful. You would be surprised how many places that deal with the public only speak French here, such as train/bus stations, tourist bureau’s , hotel managers etc. So if you come here you better at least try and learn a little French because they just get annoyed with you if you don’t.

In any case after a long way around walk I found my way back into town but by the time I got to the museum for the Bayeux Tapestry there was not enough time to give it the attention it deserved. So I decided to come back the next morning.

I did find that next to the waterwheel there are some public restrooms that were clean and usable.

I did find a good restaurant next to the museum in which the owner spoke English and I had some Poulet frites (chicken and frites) there. Not gourmet fare exactly but it put something in the hole.

After that I walked over to the Cathedral and looked at it. The cathedral in Bayeux makes the one in Caen look like a storage building. It is very massive and impressive. And when it is lit up at night it is really something to sit down and just take in for a bit, which is what I did.

Afterwards I went inside and took it in. They had a recording of a choir singing and the acoustics of the cathedral made it sound so peaceful and relaxing.

After a bit I eased back to my hotel figuring on the next morning seeing the tapestry and then taking the 12:25 #70 bus to the American Cemetery and Omaha Beach. I also intended to go by the Hotel de Gare by the train station and check them out as a possible place to stay at for Thursday and Friday. I figured it being more convenient to the train and bus service it might be a better place to stay.

So that was the plan.



13 novembre - Bayeux - Je n'ai pas envie d'abandonner le jour la nuit dernière et est resté jusqu'à la fin de leurs devoirs. Un résultat au moment de sa je me suis levé et j'ai eu mon thé et des choses réfléchi, et j'ai fait un peu de travail qu'il poussait 14:00 ...... bon Dieu!
Alors je me suis vite habillé et se dirigea vers la gare / station de bus ici avec l'intention d'avoir un coup d'oeil et puis prendre que «bybus" en ville. En attendant les bybus j'ai remarqué que les autobus étaient très rares dans l'après-midi et avons décidé plutôt que d'attendre simplement marcher dans la ville.
Alors j'ai commencé à marcher et quand je suis arrivé au rond-point j'ai pris la mauvaise route sur la droite et fini par marcher tout le chemin jusqu'au cercle Eisenhower avant de couper sur la rue St Jean de rue en ville. Donc, ce qui m'a fait encore plus tard.
J'avais prévu d'aller voir la Tapisserie de Bayeux aujourd'hui, mais il commençait à croire que je n'allais pas y arriver à temps. Je me suis arrêté à l'office du tourisme et leur a demandé quelques questions. Ils parlaient et comprenaient l'anglais là-bas qui a été très utile. Vous seriez surpris de voir combien d'endroits qui traitent avec le public ne parlent que le français ici, comme train / bus stations, office du tourisme, les hôteliers, etc Donc, si vous venez ici, vous mieux au moins essayer d'en apprendre un peu de français, car ils sont juste ennuyé avec vous si vous n'avez pas.
En tout cas, après un long chemin à pied, j'ai trouvé mon chemin de retour en ville mais au moment où je suis arrivé au musée de la Tapisserie de Bayeux n'y avait pas assez de temps pour lui donner l'attention qu'il méritait. J'ai donc décidé de revenir le lendemain matin.
Je n'ai pas trouvé que près de la roue à eau il ya quelques toilettes publiques qui étaient propres et utilisables.
J'ai trouvé un bon restaurant à côté du musée dans lequel le propriétaire parlait anglais et j'ai eu quelques frites Poulet (poulet et frites) là-bas. Pas gastronomique mais il s'en tirent exactement mettre quelque chose dans le trou.
Après cela, j'ai marché jusqu'à la cathédrale et la regarda. La cathédrale de Bayeux rend celui de Caen ressemble à un bâtiment de stockage. Il est très massif et impressionnant. Et quand il est éclairé la nuit c'est vraiment quelque chose de s'asseoir et il suffit de prendre dans un peu, ce qui est ce que j'ai fait.
Après je suis allé à l'intérieur et il a fallu po Ils ont eu un enregistrement d'un chant choral et de l'acoustique de la cathédrale a l'air si paisible et relaxant.
Après un peu soulagé, je reviens à mon hôtel figurant sur le lendemain matin de voir la tapisserie, puis prendre le bus n ° 70 12h25 au cimetière américain et Omaha Beach. J'ai aussi l'intention d'aller de l'Hôtel de la Gare de la gare et de les vérifier comme un lieu possible de rester à jeudi et vendredi. J'ai pensé qu'il est plus pratique pour le train et de bus, il pourrait être un meilleur endroit pour rester.
Alors que c'était le plan.

This was the first place I came across where I could buy any groceries. So I got some even though it meant I would have to tote them all day. Not having a car really restricts what you can do ....but , Oh well.

Yes it was a very impressive cathedral. especially when lit up at night.
