February 4 – Monday - Cabo – The first thing I did this morning was to go downstairs and book another 5 days here at the Cabo Inn. I was paid up thru Tuesday, leaving Wednesday but this takes me through next Sunday leaving Monday the 11th. That will work out well as it gives me enough time to enjoy Cabo San Lucas and then leave for La Paz next Monday. Today I sought out the Gordo Lele’s taqueria on Calle Mariano Matamoros ¼ block north of Lazario Carnetas street. I had their Asada (Beef) taco. It was quite good. They are supposed to have an owner called Javier who sings Beatle songs but I guess since it was in the day he wasn’t there. My main task for today was to go to the bus ... read more

February 3 – Cabo – I copied and pasted some very good maps of Cabo San Lucas, San Jose del Cabo as well as the southern Baja Penninsula onto Word Files by going to www.loscabosguide.com and then copying and pasting the maps. Or when you get to Cabo grab one or two of those free Los Cabos magazines which are around everywhere and tear the maps out of them. They are some good maps for finding your way around. I set two alarm clocks last night and woke up about half an hour before they went off this morning. I had a reservation for the whale watching tour at 9 AM. I don’t usually do mornings but I guess the whales do so I had to get up. I was told to try and get there ... read more

February 2 – Los Cabos – I copied and pasted some very good maps of Cabo San Lucas, San Jose del Cabo as well as the southern Baja Penninsula by going to www.loscabosguide.com and copied and pasted the maps into Word Files. You could do this or when you get to Cabo grab one or two of those free Los Cabos magazines which are around everywhere and tear the maps out of them. They are some good maps for finding your way around. Today I got up early and after my usual drinking my tea, having a banana and some cereal and thinking things over walked down to the Marina and did some t-shirt shopping. To me a souvenir cannot just be cool but must be useful. I got about 4 t-shirts so I will need ... read more

January 31 - Cabo –Thursday - I went to bed at a decent time but woke up in the middle of the night and so did some reading on Cabo before going back to bed around 6AM. I woke up around 1PM and so got my usual time of the day start. I pretty much just relaxed on the terrace for a couple of hours and drank my tea while writing my blog and thinking things over. I decided to go to Wal Mart to get some milk, 100% whole wheat bread, cereal, and fruit. The meals at restaurants are mostly meat or fish with hardly anything with fiber. So I have to make sure to work fiber into my diet on my own. So I walked down to the bus stop on Lazaro Cardenas east ... read more

January 30 – College Station to Cabo San Lucas – Only slept a couple of hours last night and then woke up and couldn’t go back to sleep. Finally got up around 3AM and did a little homework on the internet till I suddenly realized at 5AM that my plane was leaving at 06:40 instead of 07:40. So I loaded up quickly and went to the airport. One thing about B/CS is it doesn’t take long to get anywhere. I got checked in and got my boarding pass and went through security in plenty of time. I really do believe that they use the flights out of College Station, Texas to train pilots or to break in new ones. We just about ran out of runway before the plane finally went into a very steep climb ... read more

Europe » United Kingdom » England » Greater London » Heathrow Airport December 6th 2012

December 6 - Heathrow to College Station , Texas - It was a long and very boring flight from Heathrow to Ft Worth where I changed planes. But I finally made it home and my brother picked me up at the airport. So that is another trip done for this year. I actually looked at it and was suprised to realize that I have spent 5 months out of this year in Europe. First a 6 week trip in Ireland. Then an 8 week trip in Ireland and England. Then another 6 week trip in Ireland, England, France, Rome, Athens, and Santorini, Greece. So that totals 20 weeks or 5 months. I think I am done with Europe till April for now.... read more

December 5 – London Heathrow airport – The flight from Greece to England on British Airways was a pleasant one as I had a young lady sitting next to me who immensely enjoyed listening to my stories of all my adventures. It made the time pass very quickly and the next thing I knew we were arriving in London. I was really surprised as I had expected the plane (which was a Boeing 767-200) to pull up to the airport and we would walk off on a covered ramp. But instead we were unloaded onto some buses and got a tour of the airport construction sites before being delivered to Terminal 5. Since I had a 12 hr and 40 minute connection, my flight wasn’t till morning at 9:45, I had intended to find a reasonably ... read more

Europe » Greece » Attica » Athens December 5th 2012

December 5 – Athens to London – Today I repacked my suitcase and left it at the luggage storage room at the hostel. Then I checked out and went out till 3:00 PM when I would come back and get my luggage and go to the airport. I went and explored the ancient agora in Athens. It must have been really impressive in its day. Just the reconstructed Stoa of Attalos shows that. Also in the museums here they have scale models of how it looked and it was really impressive. I think a lot of people believe that there are ruins here now because they fell down or whatever. That is not the case. Basically as time went on different groups “recycled” the marble for their own projects. The same thing happened to the Forum ... read more

Europe » Greece » Attica » Athens December 4th 2012

December 4 – Athens – Today I rounded out this trip to Greece and packed up my suitcase for heading home. Then I walked over to the Temple of Olympian Zeus and checked it out. I bought a ticket for €12 and the ticket is good for 4 days to several sites, amongst them the Acropolis. One visit to each site. I had already went up to the Acropolis while in Athens before going to Santorini so I didn’t particularly see any reason to climb up there again. I toured the Temple of Olympian Zeus and then the Acropolis Museum which was not covered by my ticket and cost €5. Then I walked from the Acropolis Museum to Monistariki Square and the little street behind the church to eat. Then I walked back on Ermou street ... read more

Dec 3 - Santorini to Athens – I left a big pile of discards on the bed plus €5 for the maid and since my plane wasn’t leaving till 3:55 I made arrangements with the manager of the hotel to take me to the airport at around 2 PM. Then I went out and walked around a bit taking a last look for now at the Caldera. There was a very high wind blowing and it made it cold. The sky was partly cloudy but the clouds were being blown around so the view went from brilliant blue to subdued by the clouds. It was a fantastic view still. After a bit I walked back down to the main street and had a Greek Salad for lunch and an ice cream from a shop. Then I ... read more
