Normal day stuff, breakfast, pack my stuff up (forcefully zipping up my bulging bag). I jumped on the train and then had to walk for half an hour to get to Pekka's house. On the way I saw the craziest, stupidest motor bike I had ever seen, it had a leopards head as the head light and was covered in leopard print...STUPID! I got to Pekka's house and met obviously him and two guys from Montreal Canada, Michael and Jacob, we decided we would head to the park close by just to speak crap, take in he good weather and get acquainted. We went and grabbed a bit to eat at a café and then Pekka had to go to uni to do some stuff, so as the Canadians had yet to see Vienna I decided ... read more

OK, got up 6:30 had a hu-mungo breakfast. Then I jumped on the metro train, got off and caught the other to the major station. My train to Salzburg was meant to leave at 8:20, but to my disgust for whatever reason that one had been cancelled so I had to wait till 9:10 (I COULD HAVE SLEPT IN!). The train ride took 2.5 hours but I didn't mind as the scenery was awesome, rolling green fields, tall green trees with a background of hills and mountains. I got out of the station at about noon, I tried to get my bearings but ended up having to ask for directions while running through the rain things weren't looking good. I then found that the Alps would be to far to travel to just for a day ... read more

Starting with breakfast of course and then I spent 2.5 hours on the lappy waiting for (1) Mum to come home so I could call her, and (b) Steph to come on so I could chat to her. Surprisingly both of them went out shopping (not together) which was a pain in my arse :P I spoke to Mum finally and then went out. My goal for today was to see the Schönbrunn Palace and also the Naschmarkt (a large flea/farmers market). I got to the palace and decided I was going to try and have a super cheap day so I didn't pay the 10EUR to go in, the grounds are free so I walked through that. Now it took me 3 hours to walk around most of it, so you can understand it's huge! ... read more

In the morning I decided I would get up earlier today, as breakfast was included in the price and yesterday I caught the tail end and was left with all the crap. I rushed down like it was Christmas day, well I tried it is five flights of stairs after all! I bumped in to the American chick again and we had a chat over breakfast, she advised me she was heading to a big cemetery where Mozart and Beethoven were buried and if I would like to join. Yes, yes I would. At 10 we caught the train to what I found to be called the Zentralfriedhof Cemetery, we started by looking at the map to see who was where and what was what. This place was huge it held around 2.5 million dead, Mozart ... read more

Yesterday was huge I didn't make it out of the hostel until around noon, but I still saw literally almost the whole of Vienna. I got off the train at Schottenring and just started heading towards the closest park, the Rathaus building was next to it and right next to that was parliament. I grabbed a bratwurst (which was a lot smaller than the displayed photo!) that tasted really good. I strolled through Volks Garden which was beautiful, so many flowers! Mainly roses, it smelt wonderful. From there I took some saw and took some photos of Hofburg (a building which includes Bos Chorus and a few other buildings) and made my way through the Museum Quartier, but didn't actually go in (1) it costs money and (2) I’m all museumed out for the moment :P ... read more

Budapest's night life was amazing I know that all my friends would have absolutely frikkin loved it!!! It is a crazy city with something new always to see. Whether it be crazy people walking around in the street, museums, parks, old buildings, etc. I will hopefully visit back there one day, but there is plenty of things on my list above it. Being in a country where English was not the primary language made it extremely hard for me, and for the first few days I really did have some culture shock. I have adjusted to most people not speaking English and have now found it very entertaining to listen to people talk. Hungarian is a crazy language; some times it sounds Asian, some times German crossed with French. It is just a huge mix of ... read more

Today I slept in until 10, but didn’t actually get out of bed until about 1130 I thought that since I got here I wanted to go to Buda hill and today was the last day I could do it, so I jumped on the train and made my way there. I had to get off at Moskva Ter, one to catch the tram and two I had to change some money as I had no money left . It took me around 45 minutes to find a money changing place as the one I knew of was closed! Anyway I changed the money then jumped on the tram and then a bus. Once I arrived at the base of the hill I caught the chair lift up, I didn’t look behind me on the way ... read more

Starting with last night I stayed up with the Hungarian guy (Peter) again and spoke about a lot of different things. Politics, religion, industries, life, etc, and I realized this guy is crazy! Or maybe Hungarians just have a crazy view point, I don’t know. I ask everybody how old they think I am and I have had answer all the way from 20 through to about 26 or so, Peter on the other hand thought I was around 30 or early 30’s…LOL! He also he said his first impression was that I was a bastard, well that’s how I looked. I definitely prefer that to looking scrawny, wimpy and pathetic so I took it as a compliment. The night ended again at around 230, I then went up to my room and packed my bags ... read more

Today I asked Miriam what she advised I should see. She drew on my map a couple of streets I should take a walk down, as well as a memorial/museum called the House of Terror. Now just to let you know today probably wasn't the most exciting of days but it was extremely moving. I got to see St Stephen's Basilica, the Opera House, House of Terror and I then revisited Heroes Square (when it's not full of men on horses) and the City Park. I walked down the streets just looking at the amazingly old buildings, seeing the homeless and the beggars (it's very sad that there are so many homeless, there really are everywhere you go). So I was just looking at things, the best part was definitely the House of Terror, it was ... read more

First thing after I woke up I jumped on my laptop and got to speak to Steph . I then ventured out planning to go on another free walking tour. When I got in to the city it took me a while to figure out the meeting point, I then grabbed a bite to eat, as the hostel doesn't include breakfast . I waited at the waiting point for around half an hour after the meeting time, for whatever reason they didn't show. So I started walking, I walked across the Erzsebet Bridge to the Castle district. It had an amazing view over the whole of Budapest one side looked over the Buda side and obviously the other looked over the Pest side. I just wandered without any real direction snapping photos of anything that looked ... read more
