First of all I’m so happy that the weather here is colder, I was a bit tired of being hot and sticky all day, every day! I had to fly yesterday from Valencia to East Midlands, wait for 4 hours (North West England) and then another hour flight from there to Edinburgh. My flight was delayed by another half hour, after 10 minutes on the plane there was a god awful smell that went through the plane. Then an announcement from the captain saying that a bird of sorts had been sucked through an engine and that for safety reasons would have to turn around the plane. We landed and then had to wait for another hour to get back on . I got to my hostel and read one of my books that I bought ... read more

I have had the best time in Valencia but I haven’t done much at all. I find during the day it’s to hot to enjoy the city, so I just laze around . Most days I have sat up on the terrace listened to music and had a few “drinks”, and played some DS. Most nights I have been hanging out with people that I have met and head down the square once the terrace closes, the square is great fun for people watching. The other night there was a fight between 2 of the guys that wander around and sell beers. It was more like a clown act though, one guy was running away and kept falling over whilst the other guy kept throwing swings but couldn’t quite catch up. The stray dog just added ... read more

Got to Valencia after my 4 hour train ride and the first thing I noticed was it is ridiculously hot! The day I arrived it was 42C, yesterday 42C and to day was 40C…OMFG! Though since being in Italy and now Spain I’m getting use to being sweaty, smelly and sticky all the time, it’s not nice at all but you have no choice. But Valencia is fantastic. First thing I had to do was have a nap, when I woke up I met a bunch of English guys that had just came from a festival (a lot of people I met in Spain had just came from the same festival) and I headed down to the shops with them and stocked up on supplies. Like any European country I have been to there have been ... read more

Yesterday was another day of relaxing, I planned to go out but I ended up getting caught in the conversation and before I knew it, it was 5pm and there was no point heading in to Barcelona central. We ended up sitting around “drinking” and speaking more crap than usual . Time flew by, we had the police called for a noise complaint (it’s stupid to have a hostel in a residential area) which was fun… The next day being my last day I thought I should definitely go and check-out Barcelona. I left at noon and first had to go to the main train station to arrange my train ticket to Valencia, I had to wait for 1.5 hours for my number to be called!! I then walked straight towards La Rambla which is the ... read more

Yesterday was just a day of travelling, I had to travel from Naples to Rome by train for 2.5 hours and then sit around at the station for an hour waiting for a bus to the Chiampino airport, and the drive to there was 1 hour. The flight to Gerona was 2.5 hours and then I caught a bus from the airport to Barcelona which was 1.5 hours, when I jumped off it took me 1.5 hours to catch the train and then wander around while deciphering the encrypted directions to get to the hostel. I did meet a very nice Canadian girl at the airport and we got along swimmingly! I had somebody to talk to as I waited in line to check-in for my flight, then on the plane and then on the bus ... read more

Naples is amazing definitely my favourite city that I have visited in Italy, it feels like a traditional Italian city rather than a tourist driven city which is fantastic. Yesterday I got in to Naples around 2pm from Rome, when I got my hostel I was blown away. In contrast to the last hostel it was a palace, the hostel actually use to be a fabric factory (hence the name the Fabric hostel) so it was massive. the common room had high ceilings, a flat screen TV, comfy couches, table tennis table and free internet (which is a god send, except when I tried to connect with my laptop it didn’t work, so I used their PC’s ). After I had checked-in and dropped my stuff I thought I would have a wander and check out ... read more

I was already to move on and then I rechecked my hostel bookings and confirmed dates, Naples wasn’t until tomorrow. I wasn’t willing to go in to Rome again as I had seen everything I had wanted to anyway. Instead for the whole day I just lazed by the pool with Rhys, Harriett and their other 18 friends, was a lot of fun just speaking crap to people, hitting around a beach ball in the pool and I also managed to finish my book . At around 7pm the group started heading off to catch their flight back to England, I said my good byes and went and grabbed some dinner…sandwiches . For the night I did the norm and watched some TV shows, played DS, etc. That was my day and it was grand . ... read more

The last thing on my list to check out was St. Peter’s Basilica. I walked from the train station which took about 30 minutes as it was quite close to where the Roman castle was. When I got there I found a giant line of people, I had no choice but to jump on board in the blistering sun. I also had to turn my shorts in to pants as you can’t show your legs otherwise you don’t get in. Awesomely the line moved pretty quickly and I was in within 15 minutes. Now it was good but not great, I preferred St. Paul’s cathedral in London the art was more epic. Don’t get me wrong this was still awesome, I walked around snapping photos and I took a video of it too. I then moved ... read more

For those of you playing at home my sunburn did hold up, it was reasonably painful with a backpack and it didn’t help after I weighed it down with some shopping . I covered a significant amount of Rome in this day of travel, I jumped of a couple of stops before the central station as it is just so much easier! My first stop was the Trevi fountain which was pretty cool, to tell you the truth it was just a big water fountain with a thousand tourists gathered around it but it was cool none the less it is an epic ancient water fountain after all. I had to next navigate to the famous Spanish steps, in my travels to the steps I did see a pigeon get run over by a car and ... read more

I believe the Lonely Planet guide states it perfectly, “There are more ruins than dog turds in Rome”. This fact is completely and utterly true as I saw no dog turds but 100, no a billion ruins (may or may not be exaggerated). It is so crazy just walking around and no matter where you look there is something that is around 1000 years old. The ruins appear to be more of an inconvenience than an honor to have, as they have to build roads and buildings around them. Yesterday I caught the bus at 11am from the hostel and got in to Rome around 11:30 I then had to try and orientate myself (as I found Rome is not on the list of free tour destinations ), I did this by well…picking a direction and ... read more
