So for about the past couple of years, I have had this idea...which turned into a massive dream... that all I wanted to do with my self was work on a cruise ship. After a year of ups and downs and hassles, the time has finally come to actually say that I've done it... I got myself an amazing opportunity to work on the Disney Fantasy. This blog is for various reasons; to keep these memories and experiences close to my heart, to make sure friends and family know exactly whats going on as truth be told, I'm rubbish with communication, and also, this may just inspire someone else to come do the exact same thing! Happy reading friends!

Gosh, hasn't it been a while! So you will all be pleased to know that the lovely Disney Wonder is on it's way to Alaska! Starting off with a 15 day Panama crossing. This cruise is legendary for its guests, or the lack of them more like! An absolute relief from the chaos of the Miami lot! This time we won't be screamed at by an all Spanish family, demanding as to why we don't speak Spanish! Sometimes, me can do without! The kind of people that do this crossing seem to be hard core cruisers and all come aboard with the platinum member lanyards, all boasting about their last epic cruise when they did the trans-Atlantic crossing and lasted a whole 15 days with mot days being at sea and so on. All very hawhawhawish! ... read more

Castaway Cay is like marmite for the crew on this ship. You either love it or you hate it. I can honestly say that I despised to place during my first contract. Possibly due to the fact that it was the morning-after head ache that we all had to endure after our infamous thursday late nights. Nothing is less appealing than having to work on a hot and sticky island , covered in sand and 4 year olds screaming in your ears. This, I am sure, anyone can do without! But it is this island that seems to attract our cruisers. Nothing says "exclusive" more than a privately owned island by his royal Mickeyness , where the passengers of one cruise ship can have all to themselves for the entire day! So, it's the 100m dash ... read more

Well hello there all you lovely people finding time to read this, Back by popular demand I have decided to relaunch my little travel blog and introduce you to my 2nd contract working for Disney cruise line. This time though, on a different ship with a bit of a different intenary. As of the 29th of January, I have been working aboard the Disney Wonder, one of the older and smaller ships of the fleet. Although it somewhat lacks the extravagance of the Fantasy, it does have a more subtle character to offer of cruisers. Don't get me wrong, the magic of Disney is still very much around us, loud and proud as always, but just on a smaller scale! Today we have docked in Miami, the Wonders main port of call. Now this a is ... read more

I am writing this as our ship sits here just outside of Miami. This being a Western cruise, this is a bit unusual for our itinerary. I say this because over the past week we have been on a bit of a mission to avoid a massive tropical storm that has been hovering over the Caribbean Islands. Our complete Eastern itinerary was changed thanks to this monster. However, I say monster when, really, it was a just a bit of an upset in the winds and rain. But as I was saying, we did a complete detour. Week 3 was my official week of no longer being in training and receiving what we call, my “Mickey ears”. For the past 2 weeks I had been wearing a little red rosette attached to my name badge as ... read more

Week 1 complete! Arrived at Port Canaveral this morning after the most amazing, terrifying, mind blowing weeks of my life. Now I have spoken about how they have drilled safety into our minds this week, but that was just a small portion of what else that has been going on! However, throughout the boring bits of being constantly stuck under sea level listening to the poor safety officers drone on about “red parties, red parties, red parties”, there have been some perks along the way. This week, the Disney fantasy cruised along the Eastern Caribbean, stopping at 3 ports along the way. After 2 days stuck out at sea, we arrived at St Maarten on Tuesday. After a quick 1 hour drill of life raft training, I was literally dragged off the ship and onto the ... read more

St Maarten

Hello one and all! So, I'm currently sitting in the most exotic bar on the St Maarten Island. Firstly, the realization that I am sitting here is still pure madness for me! We set sail on Saturday to a massive sailing away party that Disney do. Fortunetly, we were lucky enough to see at as the official "newbies" of the crew. So The whole purpose of this week is so that we can gain the experience as to what the ship has to offer. So far I have seen shows, dined, trained, slept and socialized like it was the end of the world! But then comes the training! The training on this ship is intense, with a series of lectures and exams afterwards. They really do stress absolute safety on board this ship and no issue ... read more

WARNING - those of the faint hearted and would like to keep the magic of Disney in their hearts, may not want to read further as I may have to break your hearts.... just a little... Day 3 Woke up this morning feeling well rested. Yesterday we were told that we had the day to ourselves to relax and do a bit of exploring of the resort. I opted for the first option! We met outside the hotel lobby to be picked up by a bus to be taken to the Disney University. It was strange for all 6 of us to be seated in this massive bus and the silence was filled with awkwardness. Still not knowing each other that was definitely to be expected! Arrived to be met Gianna who took I us through ... read more

BREAKING NEWS: SAFFA MAKES IT TO AMERICA.... well just, thanks to her and her big mouth... commonly known as foot in mouth! Well friends, family and others, still struggling for it all to sink in but I have officially made it! Arrived at JFK this morning just after 6 after a grueling 15 hr flight. Needless to say the flight was pretty empty so I managed to bag my self a 2 seater to myself. O but I was so wrong as apparently, airbuses are designed for height deprived people! Very tiny seats! But to be honest, I did get quite a fair amount of sleep. JFK was a complete and utter shock to the system. Going through immigration's was a bit painful as I suppose every other international flight decided to arrive at exactly the ... read more
