Day 14 The hostel provided a continental breakfast. Toast, oats, mini muffins and waffles, oh and coffee and juice. Today was a shopping day. Originally I wanted to go to one of the outlet malls but I also wanted to go to Hot Topic , Nordstrom and another Ross which were all at the Ala Moana Mall and Walmart was near by too. This was quite a big mall but as it was outside so inbetween shops it was hot. I'm not much of a shopper unless it's op shops but I wanted a new handbag and a backpack for work plus we love Hot Topic. In the middle of the mall they had a entertainment so we got to see some more Hawaiian dancing. Picked up a Guess handbag for $50!! For lunch we tried ... read more

Day 13 Well I was right, the worst nights sleep on this trip. Even with 2 fans on us I felt sweaty and uncomfortable. At least it was just the one night. I got up at 6am as I was too hot. Breakfast was potato skins back at Moose Macgillycuddys. Really like the food there. A walk on the beach and we needed to head to the airport. You need to get to the airports 1 and a half to 2 hours before a flight, even domestic flights. You queue to check in, bag drop, pre screen and TSA. It's crazy and you feel like you waste so much time. As our flight was in the middle of the day I felt like the day was a waste. Next time I would either book early like ... read more

Day 11 Today was our Day of hanging out and relaxing. Enjoying a buffet breakfast we changed into our bathing gear and headed to the beach. I wanted to mermaid today so I had my tail fin and attempted to put it on in the water. The shore break made this a slightly difficult task and I'm sure that I did not look like a graceful mermaid in the slightest. Once in the ocean I froliked in the water and a little girl dragged her mum over to see a " real" mermaid, cute. When I tried to get out of the water the waves dragged me back and I rolled in. Kym was in fits of laughter and wished he had the video camera to film me tumbling back in the ocean. We moved up ... read more

Day 9 Awake at 4am, tummy not feeling well but we were up early again anyways for another volcano hike. I know that this is meant to be a vacation and we haven't stopped.. going to need a vacation from our vacation ? I had signed us up for a 12 mile (about 20km) volcano trek leaving at 8.30am, we stopped at the local supermarket to grab lunch and water before making our way up to the Haleakalā Volcano which is close to 10000ft above sea level, this is the largest volcano on Maui. It took over an hour to get there and while we waited for our tour guides to drive back down to the 8000ft parking lot and hitch a ride back to to the top we checked out the visitor centres and the ... read more

Day 8 We were up early again as we were headed to Maui and it was a 2 hour drive to the airport. A quick brekky of Spam again and we left our treehouse sanctuary behind. We only wanted the one quick stop on the way which was at Rainbow Falls. A 24 ft waterfall flowing over a lava cave that when the sun hit it created rainbows.. magical!! Kym saw some people on the rocks above the falls and wanted to get closer. So in my thongs I climbed over rocks that had water flowing next to them to get to the falls for that perfect picture. It was spectacular to see so close. Our next part of the journey wasn't so good. We thought we had enough fuel to get us to the next ... read more

Day 10 Woke up feeling sore in my thighs, can't imagine how I would have felt if I had done the whole 12 mile volcano walk the day before ? The hostel supplied a breakfast of coffee and pancakes, after eating we took a Lyft (like Uber) to the airport to pick up our rental car. We had trouble getting an Uber as our bank was an Australian bank but Lyft worked fine. We couldnt get a Lyft or Uber from the airport as they are technically "not allowed" to go there but we were given a tip to move your "pin" outside of the airport then give the driver a call to pick you up from inside...good to know for next time. We picked up our rental car.. ok not as cool as our last ... read more

Day 7 Serenaded by the sounds of nature.. rain on the roof, coqui frogs, crickets and bird noises were heard all throughout the night. There was one bird that had a call that just didn't stop and felt like it was right outside our window. At first it was cute by 3am I had reached for the earplugs and was like 'fuck this nature shit' (Sorry mum..i can't control what my thoughts think ?) When I got up though the view of our little rainforest from our window greeted us and I was all back into my happy hippie self. We embraced our inner hippy completely that morning, bathing in rainwater and running naked through our private forest ... its what you do isn't it? ? Day 6 We were up early (for us) to check out and get to a tour of the local brewery where we had gone out to dinner a few nights before. Seeing how they make the beer followed by a tasting of a flight of 4 of their brews, including the banana beer Kym had the other day.. breakfast beer!! Leaving Kona behind we set on our roadtrip. It was not even 2 and a half hours to where we were staying and we made a couple of stops to check out the scenery along the way. Hawai'i has such vast changing landscapes within a 20 minute drive. We saw coastal towns, black lava rocks making up lots of the landscape to looking up at lava mountains followed by lush green fields and rainforests. One of ... read more

Day 5 Kym wanted fried ham and pineapple for brekky so cooking on our Lanai we enjoyed another Hawaiian themed breakfast. Our little green friends joined us again. We booked a Manta Ray Night Snorkel and decided to do a late big lunch as we were leaving for the snorkel at 5pm. I also wanted a pair of orthopaedic sneakers for some planned hiking later in the trip. A quick trip beach into the township of Kona and we were asked if we wanted any drugs, well they asked Kym hahaha. Same thing happened when we were in New York.. the dude here was carrying a clear glass jar full of green buds. We often smelled the aroma in all different places over Hawai'i. After looking up if it was legal or not it seemed it ... read more

Day 4 When on holiday it is important to sleep in and that's exactly what we have been doing. Its so nice to be lazy and do things on your own time, no real agenda, make it up as you go along.. Pineapple and coconut pancake mix with maple bacon and syrup for brekky... needed to be tropical when in Hawaii. A few little critters joined us for breakfast. Gold dust geckos, a bright green gecko with red markings on its back covered in small gold flakes (hence the name) an introduced species from Madagascar who feed on ants and other bugs but also have a sweet tooth. We gave them a bit of syrup soaked pancake and watched (photographed and videod) them licking the tasty morsel. Both of us get excited when we see native ... read more
