Day 4
When on holiday it is important to sleep in and that's exactly what we have been doing. Its so nice to be lazy and do things on your own time, no real agenda, make it up as you go along..

Pineapple and coconut pancake mix with maple bacon and syrup for brekky... needed to be tropical when in Hawaii.

A few little critters joined us for breakfast. Gold dust geckos, a bright green gecko with red markings on its back covered in small gold flakes (hence the name) an introduced species from Madagascar who feed on ants and other bugs but also have a sweet tooth. We gave them a bit of syrup soaked pancake and watched (photographed and videod) them licking the tasty morsel. Both of us get excited when we see native animals (although the majority of "native" animals in Hawai'i were introduced.

After a long lazy breakfast, some ukulele playing on our lanai and watching 4 geckos eat we drove into town to do a spot of snorkelling. We ended up buying a cheap snorkel set as hiring was more expensive. Even if you don't bring your flippers pack your snorkel and mask if you have one. And maybe water shoes; sea urchins hurt. There are plenty on spots around Kona where you can snorkel (Free) right off the beach.

Within minutes there were tropical fish to be seen everywhere. Lots of yellow ones and in my head everytime I saw them I kept saying "my bubbles". I wished that there was like a waterproof fish bingo card and waterproof texta just so I could cross off how many different variety of fish we saw. Unfortunately we didn't see any sea turtles.

We guestimated we had been snorkelling for around 2 hours and judging by the way we both looked like Zoidburg from the back we called it a day. Totally exhausted in a good way we drove home to recover before heading out to a Hawaiian restaurant for some Mahi Mahi Fish n chips, traditional kalua pork and cabbage and pineapple slaw.

And that's our Day 4 done.
