Geo: 37.5841, -112.183We hiked Bryce Canyon on two full days, Sunday and Monday. Trails hiked Sunday were Queen's Garden, Navaho loop, and Peek-A-Boo loop. On Monday we hiked the Fairyland loop. Here are pictures from the two days. I think we took over 400 pictures at Bryce Canyon alone (LeeAnne would be proud), more than any other place on this trip. But don't worry, I won't post that many here.... read more

North America » United States » Utah » Salt Lake City April 25th 2015

Geo: 40.7595, -111.888We left on a Saturday in late April and returned the next Saturday. Except for a one hour or so delay leaving GSP airport, all of the flights were on time, and the delay at GSP did not cause a problem since we had a long layover in ATL built in to the schedule. We arrived in Salt Lake City at 1:00 PM, MST, picked up our rental car around 2:00 PM, and drove 4 .5 hours through rain and snow (yes, SNOW) to our motel, Ruby's Inn, for the next three nights. Except for a bit of walking around the airport in Atlanta, we missed our daily walk, but we made up for it on the next 6 days. On Sunday, our first full day at Bryce Canyon, we hiked a figure eight ... read more

Geo: 18.123, -65.4163And finally, here are a few pictures from the trip home. Not a lot to say about this - just a long day getting home. Especially so for David and Sonja since their flight from Atlanta to Knoxville was cancelled and they had to rent a car and drive. Not a good ending for them.... read more

Geo: 18.123, -65.4163Here are the pictures from Saturday, January 10th, our last full day on Vieques. David, Sonja, Anne and I drove to the Mosquito Pier where David, Sonja, and I did a bit of snorkeling while Anne walked. Some of the best snorkeling areas are around this pier. Though we did not go out very far, we thought it was some of the best that we found. On the way back, we stopped at the 300+ year old Ceiba tree. Neat tree. Think LeeAnne and family stuck close to home this day, enjoying the pool. Dinner that night was at the Tin Box, near Espearanza. This was one of the best restaurants we found on the island.... read more

Geo: 18.123, -65.4163And a few pictures from January 9th, our fifth full day on Vieques. Anne and I drove down to the mosquito pier and walked it for our morning walk. Neat place. Later we all went back to the Camp Garcia area and Red Beach, also called Caracus beach. After swimming and doing some pretty good snorkeling, Anne, David, Sonja and I hiked to an old lighthouse while LeeAnne, Bob, and Maggie stayed at the beach. That hike was a lot longer than we thought it would be and we really did not have the proper footwear for a hike but we did it. Mainly because Anne was so far ahead of everyone that we couldn't call her back - so we just trudged on. Finally made it and I think it was worth it ... read more

Geo: 18.123, -65.4163Pictures from the fourth full day, Thursday, January 8th. Our morning walk just took us back through town and around the residential area and back to the house. Bob wasn't feeling great this day so he and Maggie stayed and played around the pool while the rest of us went to the south side of the island and checked out the little barrio of Esperanza. Had lunch there then hiked to a little almost island called Caiyo de Tierra, an area like an island except connected to the main island by a narrow strip of land. Neat hike. We then went to a few of the beaches near Esperanza and Sun Bay. This is where we found the beach with the cave where David swam out, climbed to the top of the rocks, and ... read more

Geo: 18.123, -65.4163And here are pictures from Wednesday, January 7th. Our morning walk this day took us out into the rural area in a search for that fort we had read about. Saw lots of the countryside before stumbling upon the fort a lot nearer the town than we had thought. Then we all went back to Blue beach where we tried snorkeling and swimming. ... read more

Geo: 18.123, -65.4163Pictures from the second full day on Vieques. The morning walk took us by Sea Glass Beach, right near downtown Isabel II. No sea glass to be found. Then along the coast where we passed a neat cemetery. Later David, Sonja, Anne, and I drove to the western end of the island and toured through the old navy base where the main thing to see is the old bunkers where they stored ammo. The rest of the old base is just a jungle with a few narrow roads running through it. At the extreme western end is Green beach where three of us did a bit of snorkeling. LeeAnne, Bob, and Maggie drove to Blue Beach in the Camp Garcia area that she and I had seen the day before and did a bit ... read more

Geo: 18.123, -65.4163Here are pictures from Monday, Jan 5th, our first full day on Vieques. Anne and I were up fairly early and got our walk in before the rest were up - as usual. Then we just explored the house a lot. That afternoon LeeAnne and I decided to explore the island a little, mainly at the Camp Garcia area where we wanted to see if the Sol Food truck, which sits at the entrance to Camp Garcia, was open. It wasn't but we did check out a few of the beaches there as well as riding through Esperanza before heading back to the house. Anne, David, and Sonja walked down to the little beach below the house and found a bit of sea glass there. Maggie and Bob enjoyed the pool.... read more

Geo: 18.123, -65.4163Here are a few pictures from our travel day, Sunday, Jan 4th.
