Written 28 Dec First of all I want to say how lovely it has been to have all your messages to me this Xmas time– emails, and texts and phone calls from many of you - thank you all for your kind wishes and thoughts. Christmas Day will forever be that day when Michael died and nothing will ever change that as being the first thing I think of… but as time goes by I find that the day is not all about the sadness and loss…but I can enjoy whatever is going on and this year was also so different being here in Sydney. Xmas Day and Boxing Day I spent happily with Angela and Ed and their family. My own Xmas preparations had consisted of nothing at all …so it was lovely to be ... read more

Written on Wednesday. Last time .I was writing before I left the YHA at Katoomba- and had a full day planned in spite of the weather – 11 deg cold and windy- grey skies with occasional sun bursting through the clouds. This was more like English summer in August. I set off for Scenic World beside the famous 3 sisters… and that is certainly worth $26 … a cable car trip across the gorge - those of you who don’t like heights –Marilyn B , and Lesley would not have liked it when the glass floor turned from opaque to see through and you could look down and even walk on it …Lesley, you would have been crying !!!! You got off and could walk to lookout and then come back across the gorge. You can ... read more

Good morning - its just after 8 am and as I am staying at the YHA in the Blue Mountains and have got 4 hours left of my internet connection before my money runs out - I thought I would do a quick blog of the last few days. Bet you can't beleive I am up so early!!!! Arrived here in Blue Mnts - which is about 11/2hr drive west of Sydney. A good road to get here - but then its a toll road... it seems that any faster travel on a road or a tunnel you have to pay... there is an electronic tag things in the car which adds it all up - so I will pay Jo for that when I give her the car back....well thats convenient anyway. So I managed ... read more

Written 13 Dec. Sorry its taken so longto be in touch this time - the libaray wifi is knacked and I have wasted a couple of mornings there trying to get on internet - now they tell me there is a hotspot in the shopping plaza !!! Why didnt they say that before !!! SO I am sitting here under the trees sipping an iced tea - its about 28 deg but anice little breeze. Last week saw me out and about around Sydney and getting my bearings on this North Shore of the Harbour. I am becoming a fixture on the ferries – it’s such a great way to get around all over this enormous harbour. However sometimes I have to drive and thank goodness Stuart and Jo left me Sydney A_Z book as I ... read more

Well I have moved again and here I am in Hunter’s Hill a suburb of Sydney on the North side of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. No internet access here at the apartment so I am doing library stints in a lovely place called Lane Cove. ( Composing and typing up at “home” so I can cut and paste at the library) . I arrived here by train ( best not say to much about the train …an express it was called …took 6h 40 mins to go 400 km!!!... but it was lovely scenery…and I got to see some of those very swollen rivers in NSW)from Port Macquarie last Thursday and was met by Jo and Stuart , whose apartment this is… they have already been to Eastbourne and so it was nice to be greeted ... read more

HI everyone Sorry to hear lots of you are snowbound .... while I am in rather muggy ( rainy today) hot wearing my shorts weather - but mustn't grumble!!! Haha. Yes I am leaving Port as it is called- Port Macquarie- and yes I will be leaving a bottle of Port ( half drunk) behind too. So the last few days have been a hectic social whirl with Jenny, Michael's cousin styaing with me and also meeting up for an event almost every day with all my new friends here. Culminating in a curry night last night followed by a swim in Susan's HEATED pool around 11.30 pm...then of course we sat round chatting and drinking mugs of Milo - bliss. I didnt get to bed until 1.30 a. and had to trundle the bins out ... read more

Here I am again having survived a little trip away from my home base here in Port Macquarie. 3 years ago when I was here Jenny and I took a road trip through the hinterland of this part of NSW...and we drove through some lovely country - so finding myself within striking distance of this area agian - off I went to Dorrigo National Park and the Waterfall Way as the road is called. Got myself a room in the Bellingen Hostel - lovely and friendly and relaxing - verandahs to loaf around on with beautiful views of the mountains and down to the river, hammocks to lie in while reading a book ...and lots of nice travellers to talk to. The place was spotless and very efficientlyy run...thanks to Graham. ( I could have got ... read more

Hello Have you missed me this last week I wonder? As you would guess from the title we have had a bit of rain!!!! Driving up to Brisbane on one of the tourist drives I did see flood signs at creeks and gullies for 4 m then 12 m and I did wonder a bit about the rainfall!!! So since I got back last Tuesday we have had quite a lot of rain. Anyway my last days in Brisbane were great and I enjoyed going here and there on the busses all round the city and surrounds - Lovely Botanic Gdns and Roma Park - South Bank again - pedestrian bridges over the river etc - so well done Brisbane and Queensland for providing all the green spaces in their city....and it looks like they are ... read more

Hello dear all. Saturday evening here in Brisbane and had a rest day ...read a book and watched a dvd - Lantana - very good Aus movie which won lots of awards. Had a busy couple of days so now and then I have to take a rest from sightseeing!! I love Brisbane - its such a mix of old and new architecture and the riverside is stunning .. a public transport off peak ticket for only $5 for the day means you can do bus and boats all along the river and you know that for me boat trips are obligatory!! So up river I went this time ...amd as you can see from the photos it is just beautiful...no scruffy places anywhere that I could see. I had been confused that when you cross ... read more

Hello again - It really is the 10th November now - and I am in Camp Hill , Brisbane, Queensland in Fiona and Antony's house. I am just not sure whether I am still in the same time zone as NSW??? I have driven here in my lovely red VW Jetta automatic ( thanks Susan and Geoff) - it was about 600km and so I took 2 days and taking some of the well marked Tourist Drives on the way. Well the main Pacific Highway road and M1 is a bit rubbish ( if you Aussies dont miond me saying so!!). Sometimes it is a like a country road, sometimes there are bumps and potholes , lots of roadworks and road building ( be good when finished!!) and occasionally there is a nice stretch with 5 ... read more
