First of all, I would like to thank everyone for the positive comments on the blog. Today we took a day trip to Hopewell Cape here in New Brunswick. It is located on the southeast side of New Brunswick near the Bay of Fundy. I had an experience that I had never had before. I was able to walk on the floor of the ocean. This is a very nice area to view the tides coming in and out. We arrived around 10:00 in the morning. We were able to walk down 106 stairs(I counted) to the floor of the ocean as it was low tide. This is a very unique place. Because 6 hours later we returned to see high tide. Today the high tide was around 39 ft. Usually, the highest the tide gets ... read more

We have our RV parked here in Cap-Pele, New Brunswick. We take day trips in our cars. We brought our truck and Glen and Glenda brought their car. Yesterday we took a trip to Nova Scotia. Nova Scotia has around 900,000 people. Its capital is Halifax. We traveled along the southern coast to Peggy's Cove which is about 30 miles from Halifax. Beautiful drive. Peggy's Cove is a small settlement. According to legend, the name Peggy's Cove came when a ship was wrecked on rocks near the lighthouse. Everyone was lost except a woman who managed to swim ashore and was rescued. Her name was Margaret. Another version of the story of the name is that Peggy's Cove is situated at the entrance to St. Margaret's Bay. So the name Margaret's Cove was shortened to Peggy's ... read more

Yesterday we drove from Quebec to New Brunswick. New Brunswick is a Canadian Province in the Maritimes. We drove all day in the rain yesterday and stayed in Woodstock, New Brunswick. It was cold this morning..in the upper 40's and the furnace was on in the RV. Sometime in the night the electricity went off but came back on. Our slide in the bedroom would go part of the way out last night but we were able to get in bed. When you have a RV, it is always something. Today we drove to Cap-Pele in New Brunswick. It was a beautiful day but a little cool. One thing that I noticed is how steep the roofs are. I guess so the snow doesn't accumulate on the roof. The landscape on the drive down was a ... read more

North America » Canada » Quebec » Québec City September 10th 2014

Yesterday, when we drove here, we saw many farms, mostly corn, soybeans, and alfalfa. We took a tour today to Quebec City and the guide said that the farm ground here is very rich. He said that they ship a lot of grain to other countries. Quebec City was founded in 1608 by Samuel Champlain. The population of the city is 525,000 and the metro area 725,000. There are 3000 Catholic churches. Many of these have been transformed into museums, libraries, and condos. One church, St. Roch, rents out its basement to a high-end clothes retailer to help with the expenses of the church. We mostly toured the old section of the city. The guide said that a lot of people who live there don't have cars. I can understand why. The streets are very narrow ... read more

We travelled to Quebec today. It is only about 120 miles from Montreal. We arrived here early so I thought I would add some more observations that I had about Montreal since I was afraid that I would be kicked off the internet last night. Beautiful weather here. Around 72, sunny and no humidity. I am doing laundry in our RV. I have a washer/dryer combination that will only hold a small amount of clothes (about 10 lbs. max). So, you have to do laundry everyday if you have enough amperage coming in to the coach. Montreal has a large Chinatown. The early workers came from China to work in the mines and on the railroad. One of our guides was from Hong Kong. He said that he has been here 20 years. He worked in ... read more

I am going to try this again. I had it typed and the internet shut down. Yesterday we drove from New York State to Montreal Canada. We saw mostly farms consisting of corn and some soybeans. I would like to thank Glenn and Glenda for being our leaders on this trip. I was especially glad that they were our guides yesterday as all of the road signs and mileage was in French and kilometers. We arrived at our RV park and then we all had a picnic. I grilled brats. Today we took a trip to the city of Montreal. I learned something new today. The city of Montreal is on an island in the St. Lawrence River. There are 6 bridges going to the island. There are one million, eight hundred thousand people living in ... read more

Yesterday we travelled from Niagara Falls, NY to Clayton NY which is in upper Northwest NY on the St. Lawrence River and in the 1000 Islands Area. Yesterday Jim thought it would be nice to take the "scenic tour" along Lake Ontario. Well, we saw a lot of scenery. Something I didn't think that I would see was lots of apple and peach orchards. Also, lots of fields of cabbages, tomatoes, and sweet corn. I thought it would be too far north to grow these. We went through lots of small towns and many had roadside stands selling fruits and vegetables. The peaches that I saw were so big and looked wonderful. We didn't stop as it is difficult to find parking for 4 RV's along a country road. We wandered over the countryside but had ... read more

A beautiful day. We are staying in Niagara Falls, New York but visited Niagara Falls, Canada today. You can view the falls from the United States or Canada. Everyone told us that the view from the Canadian side was better. We decided to take a tour. First we went down behind the falls and went through concrete tunnels to view the falls from the back side. Beautiful. Then we took a ride on a boat called the Hornblower that took us to the base of the falls. They provided us with rain ponchos. And, we did get wet. But, great experience. I loved it. Yesterday I wanted to put pictures on of our group but somehow lost the pictures in the computer(imagine that). Charlie is trying to help me get the picture situation fixed. Hopefully, I ... read more

My last blog was at Ft. John, British Columbia. We were planning to make a few stops on our way home but felt we needed to get home. Last Sunday we spent the night at Red Deer, Alberta Canada. Monday we stayed at Great Falls Montana. Tuesday stopped at Buffalo Wyoming, Mitchell South Dakota on Wednesday and Odessa Missouri last night. Haven't see much the past few days except windshield. We travelled a total of 9,158 miles on our trip. That is a lot of miles for someone(me) that doesn't like to travel. But, the beautiful scenery and the great experiences with our travel companions made the trip a lot easier. I didn't have a blog this week because at some places we did not have wifi and then my laptop decided not to work. Guess ... read more
