We had a bit of a sleep in this morning which set the scene for a relatively lazy day. We went for a walk down to the local shops and captured the Howard Springs Post Office photo. We headed into town for a massage, which we found out later from Amanda was one of the places that got raided for being an illegal brothel. I can tell you that Peter and I only had a massage and nothing else and were none the wiser. We had a bit of a look around the city and then went to Amanda and Polat's for a lovely meal. Polat's parents also came over and I think between Peter and myself we pretty much chewed their ears off telling them all about our adventures around the country. The babies were ... read more

Let me tell you first about the killer frogs. We stayed at Mataranka last night and as usual I had to get up for my nightly wee. I took the torch and as I came around the corner of the ladies toilet, there they were, about 20 cane toads in a semi circle standing around the door sunning themselves on the outside light. I can't stand them and as I had a very pressing engagement I was in a bit of a dilema. I checked further on and found a second entry where the light was not on and came across a friendly green frog (one I can tolerate) sitting on the top step. I swiftly stepped over him and was able to complete what I had set out to do. I have now met my ... read more

Today we set off with the intention of going about 500km to Barkley Homestead but we ended up going 1100 km to Mataranka in the NT. We had stayed in Mt Isa the night before and because we both felt fairly refreshed and it wasn't too hot outside and we had an early start we thought we may as well keep going. We went out for dinner in Mt Isa to The Buffs. Prior to that Peter had been having a bit of a whinge because he always buys a keno ticket whenever we go to a pub or club for dinner and he was saying that he wonders why he does because he never wins anything much. Whinge and win that's what I call him, yes you guessed it after his big whinge he had ... read more

We had an early start today to try and beat the heat. I think it hit about 41 degrees at Richmond today, where we are staying for the night. If you want isolation we have certainly got it. I think we are the only holidayers staying at the caravan park. There are just a couple of other workers here. It is a really lovely park set right next to this lake, but unfortunately it is too hot to really enjoy it. Peter and I went to the local pub to have a couple of coldies and then went back to the campervan for a nanna nap. We both slept untill about 8.00pm. I am now cooking dinner in the 'air-conditioned' camp kitchen. Richmond is renowned for its fossils. We are in dinasoar country!... read more

Haven't even had time to blog you lucky people. It has been all go here. What with massages, eating, swimming in the pool, strolls along the beach, eating, checking out the lookouts, going to the omnimax theatre (one of the last as it is closing down on the 19 Dec), going to the markets and eating. We both really like Townsville. It has a good feel about it and the people are very friendly. Check out the photos.... read more

We had a nice drive to Townsville. We stopped at the big Mango in Bowen and a bit of a look around. We then had a stop at Ayr before heading into Townsville. We have a nice spot here and will be staying for 3 nights. We went for a quick trip into the CBD to go to the information centre. We slipped into the Cowboys League Club for a coffee. What a relief from the heat outside. We were cooking!! We are now relaxing under the air-con and looking forward to a sleep in tomorrow.... read more

The weather is really starting to heat up. We got to 39 degrees today with about 50% humidity. We are loving the air-conditioner in the Eagle! We headed for Mackay today. We had a stop at the Capricorn Caves but decided not to go in as we had to wait about 40 mins for the next tour. We then went back into the town and Peter got himself a crab sanga (sandwich for all you non aussie Qld speaking people). It put him back $8.00 but he said it was well worth it. We then had another stop at Flaggy Rocks for Peter to get one of their famous homemade icecreams. Boy what an icecream! Note the theme here - Peter eats I just watch. We then stopped at Koumala Hotel for lunch. Peter had been ... read more

Today was all about me (Louise). We went to check out the boat cruises to Keppel island but decided against it as it was an all day affair and we didn't feel like hanging around at the island waiting for a ferry to come back. So we went into Rockhampton to the railway museum which was very well set up and interesting. We went and had a look at the Great Western Pub. It is huge! It has a bull ring inside the pub where they hold practice bull rides (real ones). Unfortunately there were no rides on while we were there. We woud say there is seating for about 800 proplr inside. We then went to the Leagues club for lunch. We went for a walk along the river to look at the heritage buildings ... read more

We had a early start to the day and went for a walk to see where Capt Cook first landed in Queensland back in May 1770 (hence the name of the town where we stayed). It was very pretty there but just a bit overcrowded with people, eventhough the caravan park owner told me that this was fairly quiet. We decided to pack up and drive onto Gladstone. We went to see where my nephew Thommo works. He takes ferries from Gladstone to an island where there is a mine being built. We then drove onto Rockhampton and had a quick look and then onto Emu Park where we have decided to stay for two nights. We are right next to the beach but unfortunately you can't see it from the caravan because of the growth ... read more

We had a great day with Max. First Peter and I went to the massage academy and had an 1 hour massage for $20. The student we had was very good. We then all went for a cruise on the City Ferry. We just did a whole circuit of the river. It took about 2 hours. It was pretty warm but we thouroughly enjoyed it. Emily and Damian came and picked Max up at about 6.00pm. We then went out and had a lovely dinner. we went back home for coffee and a lovely night of looking at David and Cheryl's photos of China. Today we started off with breakfast at the West End markets. Then Peter and I took off for a town called 1770. It is where Captain Cook landed in 1770 therefore the ... read more
