We travelled down the highway to the Bungles and turned off the road to drive the 50 plus kms in to the Park (through Mabel Downs station). It was quite a rough track with some easy creek crossings but some very bumpy and corrugated sections to contend with (and cattle of course). We took it slowly and carefully and it was about two and a half hours to travel the 50 kms to the Visitor Centre. There is a nice campsite about half way in called Calico Springs where you can stop. From there we had another drive (on a better road) of about 10 kms to our campsite in the south of the park (Walardi). The Park had only re-opened officially (after the wet season) in the last few weeks. The Walardi campsite has no ... read more

Having survived our first trip in the Cruiser we decided to up the ante and plan something more ambitious.....The Bungle Bungles! (or Purnululu National Park as it is now known) We picked up the new awning and had the day to get organised for the 3 to 4 hour trip down the highway before the turnoff to the Bungles. To clebrate this momentous decision we decided to go to the Pumphouse again for dinner.... read more

We got up at a ridiculously early time so we could greet the sunrise at Marlgu Lagoon. We hope you enjoy the photos. After a few hours it was starting to warm up and we agreed there were things that needed to be done back in Kununurra (no I'm not joking). We had some electrical work done (fitted a battery charger for when we would be connected to power at caravan parks) and ordered a new awning from The Canvas Shed. We were quite exhausted from all of the busy-ness so we booked in to a motel for a rest (sort of goodbye to nice places and get ready for the Cruiser)... read more

We had arranged to move the Coaster to Jakes in readiness for the big trip in the Cruiser. The next step in our testing program of the Cruiser was underway! We would drive out to Parry's Lagoon and set up camp in the Cruiser. The plan would be to wean us off the Caravan Parks (in the Coaster) and start "roughing it" in the Cruiser. We travelled via The Grotto and carefully dropped down the 130 odd steps to the bottom but there was no waterfall unfortunately and the creek wasn't running - the dry wet season strikes again! Sunset was fabulous, birdwatching at the Marlgu Lagoon. When we returned to Parry's farm it was starting to get quite dark. We managed to spot a few hoppers. Later in the evening, the dingoes started to howl ... read more

Dragged ourselves away from the wonderful Ruth and Opal and all of the lovely people we had met on the cruise. Went to the market in the local park at Kununurra. The Walkers (Ivan and Pam) turned up at Kimberleyland Caravan Park - we had drinks at the Walkers and shared information on recent places visited with a few people. Lazy days again.... read more

The ULTIMATE Safari - the best Lake Argyle cruise ever. This is twelve packed hours of fun with Kim and Max at a really affordable price. We gathered at the Zebra Rock Mine shop and thirteen of us (I think just about everyone camped the night before) boarded the bus to head off on the short journey to the creek where the boats are kept. This was the first cruise of the season (after the wet) and everyone was keen as mustard. The passenger mix was approximately 50% local and 50% visitors. Included in the visitors were Pam and Ivan (from Tasmania) - previous next door neighbours from many years ago! It's a very small world. We touched base and remembered the days when the Walkers kids and Lenny's boys were at school together (in Launceston). ... read more

The good thing about taking a while to sort out the 'Cruiser was we had the opportunity to re-visit Ruth and Opal at the Zebra Rock Mine. We drove the 70 odd kms out to stay at Zebra Rock Mine Campground in readiness for the Ultimate Cruise on Friday 1st May. We planned to get out there in the afternoon to do some bird spotting. Recently, the (rather rare) Gouldian Finch had been seen close by the Zebra Rock Mine. The NT is one and a half hours behind WA so by the time we had packed the 'Cruiser ready for our first night camping, it was already afternoon. We thought we had everything (there wasn't much spare room) but when we got to the Zebra Rock Mine we realised that we had left all of ... read more

We bought stuff for the 'Cruiser and the Gibb River Road trip and we went for sunset drinks at the Pumphouse Restaurant and Bar. The Pumphouse is an iconic building on the Ord River. Originally, the main pump station was used to pump water from Lake Kununurra in to the irrigation scheme, however the commissioning of the Argyle Dam in 1971, allowed gravity feeding of Lake Kununurra all year around, rendering the pumping station obsolete. Kununurra locals, Thomas and Dominique Breig then negotiated to secure the site and turn it into a restaurant and bar. The Pumphouse opened in 2008.... read more

Over the weekend we decided to bite the bullet and take the 'Cruiser into the registration people and swap it over to our name and get its new plates. We figured that we were getting close to sorting the vehicle out. Monday was a holiday (for Anzac Day - strange) so Tuesday was the day for this event. During our research in to the Kimberley and specifically the Gibb River Road we had come across an event called the Gibb River Challenge (a team cycling event) with some beer drinking too! This is a charity event raising funds for kids with cancer. This year will be bigger than the last and they also had vehicle registration plates for purchase too. We decided to help the fund raising and bought new licence plates for the 'Cruiser. Read ... read more

Another restful day at Kimberleyland and at Kununurra, thinking about how we would tackle the things that need to be done. Of course, there was more mango icecream and coffees at Wild Mango. We try and visit Wild Mango early in the mornings where we sit outside and bask in the 20 something degrees. If we get there after about 10.30 it is better to sit inside with the aircon. Most times we have home made mango ice cream and coffee. It is great and the service is always attentive. Thanks ladies.... read more
