Hard to believe we're done with our first week here. Saturday morning started around the pool...a little earlier than usual for all of us....except for one.....Senor Fred. A few folks went out for breakfast..I stayed and had coffee and pastry served in the hotel bar. The boys went to wake up Fred with a group snuggle on our bed...Dani and I documented the whole bawdy event. The boys had to pack their bags...checkout is 10 AM and be ready for the afternoon water taxi to San Pedro on Ambergris Caye. The cocktails started and Jeremy had his first "Granny panty ripper"...our own concotion....same as a panty ripper but with a floater of dark rum. Fred had joined us by then and suggested adding a tootsie roll to the granny panty ripper for effect...what a guy! He ... read more

Well yesterday was certainly a very interesting day that's for sure. It started off very quiet with Chris and Ann leaving for their 2 day sail to the mainland. We will miss them and wished them well on the remaining week of their holiday. After finishing the blog I joined Fred poolside where the party was just getting started eventhough we'd just finished our morning coffee and breakfast. We chatted with the girls from Calgary...Dani and Lyndsay, the ladies from northern CA and the 3 boys from Australia. Panty Rippers, frozen mudslides and margaritas were being served. Dani and Lyndsay joined Fred and I for lunch at the Rainbow Grill, while the boys went to the tattoo parlor. We had beef nachos, lobster creole with coconut rice, and chicken fajitas. We walked back to the hotel ... read more

Good morning. It's a lovely day here again in paradise. Wind calmed down yesterday and today looks to be the same. I have to back track to Wednesday night when Fred and I went to the Sports Bar to play in the international trivia contest. There were 6 teams most with 4-6 people...we were the only team of 2. Fred was a superstar at geography, pretty good at history and all I knew was that emu eggs were green. The game lasted about 90 minutes with us winning 3rd price....$20bz off our tab. Thursday morning we got up at 6 am. We'd set alarms on both our cell phones so we awoke a cuckoo clock and a barking dog...you guess who had which one. Had a really great breakfest at Cafe Amore then walked to the ... read more

Hope everyone is okay at home in spite of the ice storm rolling through. We decided to actually do something today and planned a day trip to nearby Ambergris Caye. We first went to the local bank so Fred could cash a traveler's check. I waited outside and immediately made a new Friend...a local man who called me "sweetheart". Lucky me!!! We then bought pastries at the bakery and then water taxi tickets for our trip tomorrow to Belize City and our tour to the Mayan ruins called Lamanai. Caught the 9:45 taxi to Ambergris and met a Canadian woman living on Caulker who gave us lots of great info about the island. She told us the guys pulling you into the restaurants for dinner get paid $2 bz for each person they bring in. A ... read more

Good morning y'all (as our friends jean and herman would say). Tuesday was a do nothing day. After breakfast we decided to visit a part of the island we hadn't been to yet. We walked south along the beach towards the airport. At Popeye's Grill they were roasting a pig outside and having a buffet starting at 2 pm. They had a great pricing scheme....buy 4 mojitos and get the buffet for free. Each mojito was $12 BZ...the buffet only $30 pp so do the math!!! Anyway we met a couple from Canada staying here for a month. They're paying $500 for a 3 room place on the lagoon side....$18 a day to stay a month in paradise....such a deal! Passed a really great house for sale that we later found on the internet....$450,000 for 1 ... read more

Well it's Monday night and we've just got back to our cabana after a very interesting dinner at The Sand Box”. We arrived yesterday afternoon with all our flights leaving on time. During our 3 hour layover in Miami, we harassed the Genovali's with numerous text messages. Fred was on roll after a breakfast of champions...pizza, hot wings, beer, Miss Vicki's Sea Salt and Vinegar chips and frozen margaritas with an extra shot of tequila. He was wearing the same hat he wore on the infamous Bob Day trip to St. John so I was getting more than a little worried about how this was going to end up. It worked out fine...we met a couple from Toronto, a Connecticut couple getting married on Ambergris Caye and a rum salesman. Had a great time comparing notes ... read more

Welcome to Caye Caulker

One week from Sunday Fred and I will fly to Caye Caulker, Belize for two weeks of fun (hopefully) in the sun. We have plans to go reef fishing, snorkeling, cave tubing, visit Mayan ruins and maybe even scuba. We should see rays, sharks, turtles, manatee and alligators (if we're brave or stupid). It will be just the two of us this year. First time we've had a lengthy vacation alone in many many years. So who knows what will happen!!!! Stay tuned! I'm hoping to have WiFi access to be able to post to the blog but won't know for sure until we get there. Please let me know if you'd rather not be on the mailing list for the blog...no questions asked. ... read more

Here it is the day we've all dreaded....no not Valentine's Day, although today is Feb. 14th and David did get extra brownie points for buying Lisa a card. Its the day we leave JVD and return home to the cold, snowy Northeast. We packed last night and have until 10 AM to do dishes, sweep up, throw out the trash and leave the villa. We decided to catch the 9:30 AM ferry to Tortola and arranged to have Lorelee meet us at the West End Ferry dock. David dropped off us and the luggage at the ferry dock in Great Harbor then dropped off the rental car downtown. There was nobody to take him back to the ferry (eventhough that's the promise that was made) so he started walking. He was picked up by a couple ... read more

Friday was another lazy day spent on White Bay...when are we going to do something other than relax on the beach, swim, eat, read and drink??? Lisa wasn't feeling quite up to par...she's swearing off rum for the day. The North swell really got rockin' and rollin' today. Big rollers came crashing in all day and most boats left for calmer waters. Lisa and I finally got our happy hour on the beach...the guys brought us cheese and crackers. The plan was to buy drinks from the beach bar but it had already closed....we are on island time after all. Dinner was at Corsairs. Check out their sushi...we didn't try it but have heard from several sources its the best! We chatted with folks from Wisconsin who were also staying on island. A friend of theirs ... read more

Hey we got 4WD....wanna go off road?

Wednesday has been a very quiet day. We slept late, had a continental breakfast then Bloody Mary's made with Jack & Bernie's mix....great stuff...will have to see if we can get it someplace at home. We headed to Great Harbor so David could buy tomatoes for our dinner tonight of Lobster Fra Diavlo. We had lunch at Ali Babas...Freddie finally got to have the chicken roti that he's been dying for all vacation. There was a cute island style Jeep parked next door that we'd love to take home with us. After lunch I played the guilt card...”Lisa if you really love me you'll get your hair braided”...and Lisa gave in. There was a salon in the same building as the grocery so the boys went to Foxy's while Lisa and I each got 5 braids ... read more
