windy day in paradise
check out the palm trees Good morning y'all (as our friends jean and herman would say). Tuesday was a do nothing day. After breakfast we decided to visit a part of the island we hadn't been to yet. We walked south along the beach towards the airport. At Popeye's Grill they were roasting a pig outside and having a buffet starting at 2 pm. They had a great pricing scheme....buy 4 mojitos and get the buffet for free. Each mojito was $12 BZ...the buffet only $30 pp so do the math!!! Anyway we met a couple from Canada staying here for a month. They're paying $500 for a 3 room place on the lagoon side....$18 a day to stay a month in paradise....such a deal!
Passed a really great house for sale that we later found on the internet....$450,000 for 1 bedroom 2 bath with awesome ocean views. Passed Lorraine's Cottages and met yet another couple from Canada. What's up with that??? Does the whole country come to Caye Caulker for holiday??? They'd been considering buying the cottages for a few years and closed the deal 3 days ago. Just had city water pipes exteneded to their place and now have to decide if they
Popeye's Pig Roast
it smelled so good. Will definitely have lunch there next time they have the bbq. Think I'll skip the mojitos. tear the place down or fix it up.
we could have continued on the trail into the mangroves along the ocean but Fred was all worried about the alligators so we headed for the airport and back to town. We moved from room 6 to room 2 today and now have the beach front cabana with the tiki lounge on the roof.
Had lunch at Rainbow Grill...the only place in town built on pilings over the water. Had the best cajun lobster burger...sooo good! Bought water, beer and soda at one of the small markets and stocked up the fridge in our room.
Took a nap on the roof then headed for the pool. Still real windy in the afternoon but we're hoping it calms down in the next few days so we can go snorkeling on the reef.
We wandered around trying to make up our minds about what to have for dinner. We walked to the Lazy Lizard but Fred didn't want to stay...pooper! One place was advertising ladies night tonight...10pm - 3 AM....NOT!!! All the restaurants have a guy standing outside trying to get you to come in..."let me show you
the menu". Went down Middle Street and found a small place called 'Tom's Corner"....looked at the menu and decided to try it. They had Indian food so Fred was thrilled to find curry and I had a burrito. They served us a free appetizer...a pastry filled with spicy cooked veggies with a sauce on the side....yummo! An island kitty found us and broke our hearts with her pitiful cry. She knew we'd eventually give in and waited patiently by my chair so when my dinner came she got chicken. Poor kitty....can we take her home with us? Dinner was such a bargain $25 tip included. We're going back to that place for sure.
Lots of island doggies but have seen only two cats and no goats, horses or burros. There's a Humane Society office and small vet clinic on island. Caught up on emails and read about indoor arena roofs collapsing in CT due to too much snow on the roof. One place was Lindy Farm and several race horses died...so sad. We watched the weather from Chicago and St. Louis....Jean and Herm...bet you can't wait to leave that place. We're thinking of you all at home and the
coming ice storm. Take care!

ICE
Sitting here with the chill in the air inside of the ice storm outside makes that look sooooooo nice.
