Warrambool on the south east coast of Victoria was surprisingly quite a large town with a very impressive 5km foreshore promenade bordering the beautiful and sandy Lucy Bay. Pete and I really enjoyed the bike ride there and back as the views are amazing and we think the locals are very lucky to live in such a beautiful area. There are some lovely historic buildings in the towns around south eastern Victoria which have thankfully preserved. It is also quite fascinating to see that this area also has had a lot of volcanic activity with cone shaped hills, huge craters and crater lakes dotted around the place. Many of the lakes contain salt and today we walk of Lake Beeac. What an amazing experience to do and see! We even tasted it! Tonight we are camped ... read more

Well, we moved on from our picturesque Murray river camp spot to a similarly beautiful spot on the Campaspe River near the small town of Elmore. However we are, this time, surrounded by many, many motor homes and caravans, being such a popular spot for the locals to camp at. We have met campers from Bendigo and Melbourne plus there is a local chapter of the Caravan and Motorhome Club of Australia gathered here, of which we are members, so we have been invited to share in their Australia Day Happy Hour celebration this afternoon plus their big BBQ breakfast tomorrow! Sounds good! Yet another hot day and a swim in the river will not be far away. The campsite was so good that we stayed there 3 nights but moved on today to get closer ... read more

Camped in Mt Kosciusko National Park this evening, ready for the climb tomorrow. Very windy road to get here but great location. Arrived at the chair lift at the ski village of Thredbo at opening time to get to the start of the walk asap. Weather was perfect as it was cooler than the last few days and the track was amazing with metal gridding all the way, to prevent the ground cover from being damaged. Scenery was great with many many hikers on the trail enjoying the day. Camping tonight right next to the Murray River so the bubbling sound of the constant flowing water will definitely assure a good sleep. We even soaked our aching muscles in the river and to also reduce our body temperature as once again we are in the 30 ... read more

Pete and I many years ago lived and worked in the small town of Kyabram (population then was 3,000) located not far from the big city of Shepparton. We have revisited this very flat, fruit growing area several times and always enjoy the familiar scenery and visiting old friends here. Kyabram also has a very famous wildlife fauna park based here and well worth a visit every time. Well it has been 3 days of non-stop visiting where we have shared many memories and delicious meals with our old friends. We have had a wonderful time with a highlight also of being able to take a photo of a gum tree Pete helped to plant 13 years ago in the local Show grounds in memory of his brother who tragically died in a motorcycle accident. The south east coast of NSW is really quite beautiful with stunning beaches and national parks everywhere. We have just been cruising on down, stopping at the small towns on the way, walking their boardwalks, strolling their white sandy beaches and viewing their turquoise coloured bays. Campsite tonight is high on a hill overlooking the twinkling lights of the next town that we will visit tomorrow which is called Bega, famous for its cheese so the cheese factory tour is most definitely on our tick list! One of my Christmas presents was an electric keyboard, something that I have been harping on about wanting to play for more years than I care to remember so if all goes to plan and I practice as I should I may be able to play something on it maybe ... read more

Petersham, an old suburb of Sydney is where our daughter Tessa lives so we just parked the RV opposite her house on the street. There are no big signs warning us that camping is prohibited and it would seem that the neighbours were not too concerned and even asked if we had slept well! We arrived last night to our new abode, in the suburb of Melrose Park, for the next two weeks where we are house sitting and taking care of Millie and Whizzie the cats! It was also, fortunately for us, the night of the local resident’s annual Christmas get together so much wine and food was enjoyed by all. When the mozzies forced us inside we continued with good whisky and good music and for the first time in several months we actually ... read more

On the coast now at Bateman’s Bay and we are enjoying once again the feel of sand between our toes. We took a coastal walk track around a small island today and what with the weather being just right we couldn’t help but enjoy ourselves. At the end of a jetty we walked along Pete pointed out an absolutely huge manta ray. Just glad I wasn’t in the water snorkelling as I really would have freaked out! The photo makes it look small for some strange reason but it really was huge! We are now parked in another small but interesting national park right on the beach. This afternoon we even had an echidna walk behind our van whilst we were relaxing on our chairs reading our books! Another very very friendly bird that we did ... read more

At Bathurst today Pete was grinning like a Cheshire cat as he hooned around the Mount Panorama circuit. Slight exaggeration there, seeing as the speed limit is 60 kms per hour and we were a motorhome and not a super V8 car. Nevertheless it was still very interesting and even I enjoyed the ride, so much so that we went around twice! Pete then visited the adjacent car museum but I chose to stay with the RV and write this blog! (Must be a bloke thing). We are in the Blue Mountains now and enjoying some great hiking. There aren’t any free camping spots around here so instead of staying in the local camping ground we again asked the local publican if we could park in his carpark for the night and in return we would ... read more

Today we set off on the Oxley Highway from Waichope (pronounced Wye hop) to Walcha. The route is also known as the road with 300 bends! We didn’t count them but would guess that that would be about right as we drove up and up and up the mountain pass and down, down, down on the other side! We are now camped in a national park all by ourselves with thunder and lightning going on all around us. It has rained constantly since we have been here but we are not at all bothered as what with books to read, dinner of fried rice and sausages now cooked and eaten along with a couple of glasses of red wine, we are comfortably settled and relaxed listening to Pete’s ipod with its huge variety of artists to ... read more

Spent the night in the New England National Park and along with our next door neighbour we spent a pleasant evening around another couples camp fire swapping stories. Before that Pete and I had gone for a short walk and were amazed to see plenty of kangaroos hopping through the bush, some at an amazing pace, as though they were on something. (Probably burning up energy so that they could sleep through the night). Went on a great walk down into a gorge, followed by a huge hike to get out of it! We are gluttons for punishment because after lunch we moved to the adjacent national park of Cathedral Rock and did another long hike there. This, however, was very challenging with the last part requiring chains anchored into the rock to be used to ... read more
