Well it has been quite some time and at least 4 months since my last blog as I was waiting until Pete and I had settled into jobs here before publishing an update. However, jobs for Pete were not that forthcoming and even though he finally secured one this week, he has turned it down as we have decided to head back to Darwin at the end of April when our house sit here comes to an end. I have been working for Travelex once more and hope to get a transfer back to Darwin if at all possible. Pete has been in touch with his old boss up there and is hopeful that he will be taken on again on his return. We are looking forward to getting back on the road and do miss ... read more

From Albany we headed back north towards Perth stopping at Wave Rock! Quite an unusual rock formation and worth seeing. The lovely summer weather is back with a vengeance so the jeans and polar fleeces have been stashed away thank goodness! We camped in the small town of Kulin where we were impressed with the fantastic sports stadium and hydro slide complex for a place of its size. On speaking to a local it would seem that a very generous childless couple left the town $1,500,000 and the council has wisely spent only the interest on structures that benefit the whole community. The locals are immensely proud and who wouldn’t be. Kulin also is trying very hard to put itself on the map with strong advertising to entice tourist to visit their town to observe “The ... read more

Wildflowers have started to appear at long last so Pete’s camera has been clicking madly plus Western Australia also has a tree that they call their Christmas tree which is a stunning orange colour. We enjoyed walking around the Pinnacles today, unusual upright rock formations not far from the coast and only found around the area of Cervantes and nowhere else! As we will soon be spending five months pet and house sitting in Perth we drove right on, bypassing the city,on to Rockingham on the coast south and spent two lovely days with old friends. Rockingham is a great place with plenty of long unspoilt beaches, shops and restaurants. We are going to explore further south just for a couple of more weeks so today we visited Bunbury and walked around the boardwalks surrounding the ... read more

From Exmouth we travelled south and called into the small town of Coral Bay, famous for its beautiful sandy beach and, of course snorkelling amongst the coral. It was so picturesque with its turquoise sea with canoes, kayaks and glass bottom boats to hire to view all the protected marine life from above the water. It is easy to see why it is a popular tourist destination with the caravan parks and motels all on the main drag. Next stop was Carnarvon and as this town prohibits free camping, like many in Australia, we opted for a caravan park that was offering 3 nights for the price of two, so a pretty good deal really. We again relaxed by a beautiful pool, reading our kindles and agreeing that our life style is not too bad! Carnarvon ... read more

The Kimberley region from Kununurra to Broome stretches for miles and miles so Pete and I definitely have shared the driving on this leg as the roads seem to be never ending straight roads. The landscape changes quite often though to keep it interesting and I am also glad that we have tons of music to sing along to, to ensure we are fully awake plus I brought these very strong coffee candy pieces back from Bali and they too are helping to make sure we keep alert on the road. Tonight we are camped in Derby which has the title of having the largest tide in Australia at 11.8 metres. We biked 5km at 3.00 pm with the temperature around 30 degrees at least to the wharf to see the incoming tide but tomorrow I ... read more

Well we have sadly left Darwin and now back on the road headed for Perth! Darwin truly has been one of the highlights of our travels around Australia so far, as we have made some wonderful friends during our 4 months living in the campsite. Our social life had never been so good what with happy hours most nights and going out to the Casino weekly plus dancing at the local tavern on many a Friday night. Still with the wet season not far away and the humidity rising it was time for us to move on. Most of our neighbours have already left so our group was dwindling fast and parts of the campground were starting to look very deserted. Before we left we hopped across to Bali, as one does, and had a fantastic ... read more

Sorry everyone I copied the incorrect text on to our blog site. Photos are correct. Here is the correct blog. Darwin, as always in the Dry, is a wonderful place to stay, with the constant beautiful sunny days which we never tire of. Work is still good for both of us and we are thankful that we have jobs but we are looking forward to hitting the road again as we miss the lifestyle. We are trying to make the most of our days off and have attended some great free events kindly put on by the Darwin City council such as watching and listening to the Darwin Brass Band at the water front where they played some fantastic classics such as “Georgia on My Mind” and “I dreamed a dream from time gone by” from ... read more

We are now truly settled in Darwin and just loving the lifestyle and fantastic weather. Pete and I were very fortunate to be offered the first jobs that we applied for so Pete is working at the local supermarket as a shelf filler and I am a sales consultant for Travelex at Darwin Int'l Airport. It is wonderful to receive payslips after so long and see our bank account climb upwards instead of always dipping downwards! We are in with a great bunch of fellow permanent dry season campers and share a laugh with them most nights during our happy hours! We are both biking to work and feeling fitter because of it. Darwin is very flat so it is not difficult to bike anywhere and have even biked to the city which took an hour ... read more

Heading north from Katherine we have stopped the night in Litchfield National Park in the camping ground at Wangi Falls. There is a short track from here that leads to the swimming hole at the base of the falls and it is just magical and justifiably very popular with locals and tourists alike. The water was so refreshing, given that recently it has been well over 32+ degrees most days. The spot has just been given the all clear as to being croc free and is checked every day but one can’t help but keep looking around and down to the bottom given that it is super clear to see if they have maybe missed one. We had a bad night at the campsite with hundreds of mosquitoes getting inside the van so we moved to ... read more
